TV Guide Canada is reporting that actress/singer Hilary Duff has been approached for the lead role in the upcoming 90210 update for The CW. Duff would play Annie, an emo, theater lover who is transplanted from the Midwest to Beverly Hills with her family when her dad moves the family there to care for his ailing, alcholic movie star mother.
This could be a HUGE get for the 90210 update and the entire struggling CW network as well, as Duff is wildy popular among the netlet's target demographic 18-34 year-old women. A good many in that age group grew up on Duff's hit Disney show Lizzie McGuire and are big fans of her music. Duff's "Come Clean" from the CD Metamorphosis was made popular when it was tapped as the theme song for MTV's monster hit reailty soap Laguna Beach-which was produced by former General Hospital exec Wendy Riche.
I think the new 90210 would be a good look for the Duffster, though I am still waiting patiently to hear that some talented daytime faces will end up on the show (Go here to see which daytime soap stars DC readers voted they would like to see on next season's most buzzed about show!), since the original had such a great history of using soap stars like Luke Perry, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Daniel Cosgrove, Vanessa Marcil and so many others.
As of now neither The CW or Duff are commenting on the rumors. Keeping logging on to Daytime Confidential.com for the latest scoop!
