HomeTVAll My ChildrenOutstanding Supporting Actress Nominations Luke Kerr April 30, 2008 14 Comments Congrats to Kelly Menighan Hensley, Heather Tom, Judi Evans, Gina Tognoni and Tracey Bregman. May be best supporting actress win but I wouldn’t envy being in this category. Not when this was probably this year’s most competitive category. Before I continue I want to give a shout out to Judi Evans. I have loved your work since Another World and to see you nominated nearly 10 years after that great show ended is satisfying. I am still in shock from this category. Not that any of these actress are undeserving, because each is a consummate actress. However, the fact that Kathy Brier or Catherine Hickland didn’t receive a nomination for their work on One Life to Live is a crying shame. After losing the award to Genie Francis last year I sort of expected to see the Bold & Beautiful’s Lesli Kay nominated, even if it was a sympathy nomination. I really wish there was some way to include both of Guiding Light’s Gina Tognoni and Marcy Rylan in this category. Both had great a great year. Then we have General Hospital. Unlike some actresses who were obviously leads on their respective show Carolyn Hennesy is the definition of a supporting actress and while Rebecca Herbst’s status as a supporting actress is questionable considering how much air time she receives the fact that she wasn’t nominated for the scenes surrounding Emily’s death is striking. Looking at the prenominations list below and comparing it to the nominees above is there anyone who you feel is missing from this list or who should be on it instead of someone else? Outstanding Supporting Actress Pre-Nominees: AMC: Alicia Minshew and Sabine Singh ATWT: Kelley Menighan Hensley, Colleen Zenk Pinter, and Marie Wilson B&B: Jennifer Gareis, Lesli Kay, and Heather Tom DAYS: Judi Evans, Martha Madison, and Mary-Beth Evans GH: Rebecca Herbst, Carolyn Hennesy, and Kimberly McCullough GL: Beth Chamberlin, Marcy Rylan, and Gina Tognoni OLTL: Kathy Brier, Catherine Hickland, and Bree Williamson Passions: Erin Cardillo and Melinda Sward Y&R: Tracey E. I love them all. Good luck! ***///Living In The World Of Soaps Since 1985\\\*** Log in to Reply daisyclover1938 April 30, 2008 Well, I am upset!! None of my picks are on here! I picked: Alicia Minshew, Carolyn Hennesy, Marcy Rylan, Kathy Brier, Catherine Hickland. I’m especially upset that Brier didn’t get a nom I know I’m probably going to get pummeled for this but: WTF is Heather Tom doing on this list?!? Don’t get me wrong, I like Tom, I think she’s very talented, but there was nothing that she did as Katie that warranted an Emmy nomination. I DEMAND to see her reel!! She must have slipped old Y&R scenes on there. Log in to Reply gush900 April 30, 2008 Marcy rylan shouldve been nominated her work with toma nd ron this year she was unbelievable. Log in to Reply Equarter May 1, 2008 Let it be said by me. Jennifer Gareis, Kathy Brier, Alicia Minshew, Marcy Rylan all got kicked in the teeth with these noms. Also, as much as I hate to say this Judith Chapman is in the wrong category. She is defintely Lead Actress material. I beliee she would have pushed out Jeanne Cooper. IMO Log in to Reply DS9Sisko May 1, 2008 I actually have few complaints here other than I wish that they category could have been expanded to include daytime’s most brilliant supporting actress in the dramatic arts, the divine Carolyn Hennesy who eats up and spits out just about every scene on General Hospital as mob lawyer Diane Miller. Also, Farah Fath (Gigi, OLTL) and Meg Ward (Kate, GH) have been stellar. And here are three other actresses that have been outstanding: Jane Elliott (Tracy, GH), Alley Mills (Pamela, B&B) and Peggy McCay (Caroline, Days). “The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.” – Garak, Deep Space Nine Log in to Reply muze May 1, 2008 Daisy, you’re right again on Heather Tom. I loved her as Victoria but she’s not Emmy material this year, when there are so many other deserving actresses. I have to say…GO GINA. Totally underrated and often criminally underused on GL. So happy to see her taking on Alan now. Those scenes with Billy when he first came back and they had the intervention…genius. Can we get Rick Hearst out of GH where he is criminally underused and back as the leading man on GL, re-team him with Dinah, they would be fierce. There is no way in hell that she should be nominated. ***///Living In The World Of Soaps Since 1985\\\*** Log in to Reply Luke Kerr May 1, 2008 As Jamey pointed out when we discussed today’s nominations in an episode to air tomorrow OR friday Heather Tom could be on Passions after its canceled and get a nomination that’s how much the industry loves her. lol Log in to Reply jeopardy May 1, 2008 Alright Jay we understand that you love Heather Tom. . . If she were still Victoria I wouldn’t hate the character, but from what I understand she didn’t deserve it this year. I just can’t understand the total snubbing of OLTL in this category. I also really believed that they should have nominated Marcy Rylan as Lizzie on GL. She really brought it and brought me to tears several times last year. They had to have seen her work because they nomianted Danny Cosgove. How could you nominate Bill and totally pass on Marcy as Lizzie. I want to see these people’s tapes! Log in to Reply daisyclover1938 May 1, 2008 I think what Nelson said regarding Heather Tom is true, everyone in the industry loves her so she has an edge over others. I’ll just restate that I think Tom is a great actress, and her scenes with Steph were good, but I just don’t think it was Emmy worthy. Log in to Reply joshua2854 May 2, 2008 Of all of the categories, I think this one has the fewest WTF, moments. I mean, I never would have expected Judy Evans to be nominated, but she is an AMAZING actress. She does indeed, rock the house! The podcast makes me think that Heather Tom is ruling over at BB. T Bregman and Gina are always wonderful whenever I see them. I am VERY happy for La Hensley. I just think she rocks . . . even if I do wish they bitched her up even more. Again, I’m thinking we could see surprises all night long in these categories . . . Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that Judy Evans may pull out a win. Log in to Reply HarleyFanForever23 May 8, 2008 Way to go, Kelley Menighan Hensley! But where’s Catherine Hickland and Kathy Brier? How terrible. —Kate (or Katie) Gus & Harley lover! Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 1, 2008 Heather Tom has just started to get good material as Katie on B&B. There is no way in hell that she should be nominated. *** It only takes two episodes and those ones where she told Stephanie to back off packed a punch. Heather Tom could pull of anything. She is one of the best actresses in daytime and has the Emmys to prove it. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 1, 2008 As Jamey pointed out when we discussed today’s nominations in an episode to air tomorrow OR friday Heather Tom could be on Passions after its canceled and get a nomination that’s how much the industry loves her. lol *** That was Nelson Luke! LOL The industry loves her AND she can act her natural ass off! I will NEVER forget her last scenes on Y&R where she told Victor how angry and disappointed she was in him-through choked tears and gritted teeth-for paying off department stores to give Newman cosmetics better placing than Jabot. People love to talk about Sarah Brown’s three Emmys, but the true test of an actress is can they bring it wherever they go. Sarah rocked on GH but fell flat on ATWT. Heather has been fierce on three soaps in three separate roles, four if you count the time Kelly crossed over to AMC.
