Elisabeth cover your eyes. Broadcast journalism pioneer Barbara Walters has confessed to having had a long term affair with a married, black senator during the 70's, according to the Associated Press. The politician in question, Sen. Edward Brooke, was the first black elected to the U.S. Senate in a popular election. Walters will discuss this revelation and more from her upcoming memoir Audition on The Oprah Winfrey Show  May 6.

I love stories about how Babs likes to get her freak on! Remember when Rosie was telling people Babs used to recommend lubricants to her?? I still have visions of Babs' arsenal of sex toys!!!

I once adored Babs to the point of idolatry, I LOVED her celebrity interviewing style, but the way they threw Star to the wolves and asked Star go along with a lie made me really lose faith in her. Then she brought that bully Rosie on and the show became a four ring circus. I bet Meredith Viera is counting her lucky stars she exited stage left before that show went stark raving mad.

Yeah, my deal with little freaky B is that I have the utmost respect for what she's achieved in her professional life. I think she's been incredibly successful, she's been a trailblazer for women in the industry (TV news and entertainment) and she's obviously an intelligent woman.

BUT her treatment of Star Jones was disrespectful and unprofessional. I don't care that Jones could be over the top sometimes, it doesn't warrant the type of treatment she got. B threw her under the bus Bigtime. She canned Jones, and when Jones tried to leave somewhat on her own terms (by announcing it on the show) and was truthful about what had happened, Babs launched an attack on her.

As far as Rosie is concerned, Babs should have known what she was getting with her. Rosie is a controversial figure, speaks her mind and lets face it, likes to pick fights with people. Babs knew all of that and should have anticipated the choas that soon ensued. The Rosie fallout kind of felt like karma to me!

Plus, did you guys see the way she treated Ross the Intern when he did a guest stint on The View?? I saw clips of it and was horrified?? WTF? Was that necessary?

So while I respect her, I don't necessarily like her...

Growing up I always said that out of those I wanted to be like in regards to their careers it was the OB's.. Oprah and Barbara. I respected how Barbara would get those hard hitting interviews with heads of states and celebs and would be able to get them to show their human sides and their flaws without being malicious in doing so. She had pose, style, grace, and the resume to back her up.

When she hired Butch while Star was on the show, that just made me do a double take and re-look my so-called idolization of Babs. Butch was known for hating on Star for her weight loss which I still don't understand what it has to do with Butch in the first place. She lost the weight that was crippling her health, that's what was first and foremost important so why was Butch hating on that? Then when Star left and BW decided to not throw but dropkick her under the bus and then set her on fire, that had me just in total shock.

Then when Butch started to show her true colors on the show getting in feuds with every and anyone and then trying to cause drama with my idol Oprah... That's when I lost some respect for Babs. Butch made The View turn into a tabloid show on crack and then when she and Hasslecrack got into it, made me take off the rose-colored glasses I guess I had on for BW. That and she made me side with HASSLECRACK and you can tell the love I have for her.

I do have to agree with Babs on some level that Star was wrong for the corporate sponsoring she was doing on The View and the hoopla of her wedding. Even Star has said she should've backed up with all that. I still respect her journalist wise but Babs just showed us a side of herself I never dreamed she had. Her saving Grace was bringing Whoopi on who's got the intellect and snappy comebacks to handle Hasslecrack and anyone else who comes her way.

Meredith must be paying for Katie Couric's kids school tuition as gratitude for her deciding to jump ship to CBS in order for her to get out of the hell that was The View.

I like Barbara BUT I have a few issues with her.

1. It seems like in the last 5 - 10 years it seems like she's lost the ability to be "hard hitting" it's almost as if as everyone started to expect that she was going to make them cry and be hard hitting that she was afraid of that reputation and started backing off the tough questions. I think Diane Sawyer is way more hard hitting now than Barbara and that isn't  how it used to be. Her interviews and especially her 10 Most Fascinating People have become a joke and the longer she does them the more out of touch they make her look. Her Investigative stories that she does are still pretty good but the other two seem to have went down hill in quality.

2. The way that she, ABC, and The View's producer threw Star under the bus was wrong on many levels.

3. Rosie O'Donnell on the show probably got The View another 5 year contract but at the same time it took the show down to a level no one expected. I can't imagine Meredith being on the show and letting it get to that point. As zany as Meredith could be or as up to do crazy things like kissing another woman for laughs looking back I can't help but think of how calming of a force she was on The View. Now Babs says that she doesn't have anything to do with people's contracts but I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that if Barbara was upset with Rosie that she didn't use her influence to get rid of her. The View is run and produced by Barbara and What's his name and they've been working together for years. there is no way that Barbara can play innocent in it.

4. My last issue is with the tone that Barbara sets on the show towards Elisabeth. Now I know a LOT of fans hate Elisabeth  (though i do not believe that her cohosts do) and everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, Barbara, then Rosie, and now Whoopi all treat(ed) her like a child and have been VERY condescending to Elisabeth. Yes Elisabeth will argue her point and defend it until she's blue in the face and it doesn't make her look good to a lot of fans BUT Barbara, Whoopi and Rosie have all used their fingers on her like Elisabeth is some sort of spoiled brat and that her opinions don't count. Elisabeth actually treats them with more respect than they her though she will argue with them a LOT. What is the purpose of having a "token" conservative on the show to pull in conservative viewers if the moderators and Barbara are always going to act like her opinion doesn't matter? Ironically, it is Joy (who has been known to make the most cutting remarks about conservatives) that seems to treat Elisabeth with the most respect (don't count sherri since doesn't really get into politics).

As for this affair...at this point who cares. The only reason she's even talked about it in her book is so that it can get her HUGE headlines and on Oprah to pimp the book. What relevence is said affair to us today other than to think about the fact she got herself some brown sugar? none really.

I don't want people to think I dislike Barbara because I do like her. i just wish she wouldn't keep dissapointing my high expectations of her.

I can't respect someone who says I must hate the troops since I'm against the war. Sorry. Make a principled argument, but don't start criticizing me for not wearing a lapel pin, or give speeches equating gay marriage with bestiality. As the country singer, sang, "that don't impress me much."
