Young and the Restless: Nikki and David Set A Date; I Set Snooze Button

And the bride wore boredom. One of the 15 Most Boring Couples on Young and the Restless right now, Nikki and David decided to jump the broom in the near future on today's episode. Man do Melody Thomas Scott and Vincent Irizarry deserve better than this. These otherwise fabulous soap superstars have zero chemistry together and its painful to see TPTB try to force something that clearly isn't there.

It's almost as bad as when Marcy Walker's Tangie was paired with Robert Newman's Josh on Guiding Light, or when Kim Zimmer's Jodie was paired with A Martinez's Cruz on Santa Barbara. I am sure someone thought it you took one half of Cruz and Eden and paired it with one half of Josh and Reva it would create the supercouple to end all supercouples, but all it did was temporarily end my my viewership of both of those shows. The same mixed up logic is obviously being applied with Nikki and David.

It was a smart move for CBS to snap up Irizarry after he was so unceremoniously dumped by ABC's All My Children, but he has stuck out like a sore thumb on Y&R since day one. First he was in town to seek revenge on Dru for supposedly killing his beloved mistress (Is there really such a thing?) Carmen. Then that story went the way of Nick's plane crash, Summer's paternity and where in the world is Zapato?

Then all of the sudden he's a slick campaign manager putting Nikki's pole twisting days on the web for download. I guess that turned Nikki on, because she started screwing him! David served a purpose as long as he fueled Victor's wrath at Nikki, but now that the Newmans have gone their separate, boring ways, it's time for a shake up. Why not have Jill go after David? I know, I know, she's still grieving over the love of her life Ji Minh (eye roll) but something tells me Ms. Abbott can find it in her to love again, or at the very least rip off David's clothes on top of Katherine's desk!

The only couple in Genoa City more boring than Nikki and David is Victor and Sabrina. How I long for the days when Nikki was with Jack and Victor with Jack's sister Ashley, yet both couples were forever intertwined by the brilliance of the late Bill Bell. Y&R has got to figure out how to once again realize chemistry and write to it and fast.  I am enjoying the show's gradual refocusing on the glitz and glamour of the cosmetics world (Even if I am still forced to sit through mentions of that dreaded reliquary book!), but with basically no couples to root for, it's like eating cotton candy, it tastes sweet at first, then your belly starts to hurt, you get a sugar headache and on top of it all you're still hungry.

I was so excited when VI came onto Y&R, but he's been completely wasted (as was my poor beloved Billy Warlock). My dream would be for him to go back to AMC where he's really needed!

Honestly Y&R has become a snorefest overall. Even Jill, who I have loved for over 15 years, bores me now Sad

BTW, Josh and Tangie had to have been one of the most boring soap couples ever! It was painful to watch them, lol!!

Nikki and Lujack are not getting married. That story is sooo pointless. It makes Nikki look like a complete idiot. Where is our Darth Nikki?

Daisy my dream is for him to return to GL in the dual role of Nick and Lujack and have the show re-focused totally around him. They could lure Kimberley Simms back as Mindy (if not Kirsta Tesreau or Jensen Buchanan), dye Judi Evans hair back to blonde and bring her back as the original Beth Raines.

David is the AntiVictor. Sounds like my cross dressing uncle in New Brunswick.

OR here's a thought...bring him back to AMC to stir things up. He certainly could and heaven to Dixie the show sure needs someone like VI.

From your fingertips to God's ears Jay. But the current writing team would fail those actors big time

You are right though. VI is WASTED...Darth Nikki needs to return ASAP. I HATE how they are making her look like she's  @ Jabot.

The one thing the LML got right was giving Nikki a damn backbone. She needed to be strong because she's been such a doormat for Victor over these years. I was glad to see her come into her own as much as I opposed it in the beginning. I love strong characters and Nikki was one of them. She stood up to Victor and even though she was defeated she made that work for her.

Even as she stood up for herself with Jill reminding her what a hypocrite she was for poo pooing Victoria's hiring I was thinking can't we see more of THAT chick. I like her.

Jamey, my second choice would be for him to go back to GL. I never saw his as Lujak but I loved him as Nick. I've watched VI on 4 soaps now and that man is just amazing. They really could re-build GL around him and his character(Drunk. And even though my first choice is for him to go back to AMC, I'm thinking that GL needs him even more!

Fact is VI SHOULD be the center piece to GL right now. It would mean more Spauldings and more Spaulding drama. A soap should not have just ONE intact family. GL show has me on the verge of leaving. I'm hanging by a thread these days.

GL needs him more than AMC. AMC has plenty of star power and they didn't use him for years last time. He became a star on GL, although to call a spade a spade, they'd need to make some changes BEHIND the scenes if it work, namely in the writer's office, er Buzz's restaurant.

VI just seems out of place on Y&R. Maybe it's just because this character is so ill-developed. The gambling thing feels like something they pulled out of their ass at the last minute. They have no chemistry. It's tough coming to a show with no links to anyone else on the canvas. Too bad Nikki won't sleep with Victor Jr. or Cane. She needs a younger man.

That's why Y&R is at times worse than any soap on tv- we hate all the couples. Even GL sometimes accidentally mines gold with Dinah/Mallet and Bill/Lizzie.

The REAL Beth, that's the first time I've heard than in a while. I can't stand this Beth, never have, never will. I've been waiting for the show to axe her and Lillian for the better part of a decade.

Ok Jamey, you're in my head again. I agree with everything you said. My only problem with it is VI doesn't need to go back to GL til someone who can write a real story for Lujack/Nick comes in. Elly and Davey will crucify either character just like they have every other character on the show.

David needs to pop back up in Pine Valley with a comatose Dixie in tow. Smile

Any soap wedding that is planned for four months down the road ain't gonna happen.
