Former One Life to Live star Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline Wiliamson) has landed the lead role of Mimi in Broadway's long running musical Rent.
According to Renee's Loft on MySpace, Goldsberry's first date on stage will be June 16, 2008, and she will continue in the role until Rent closes on September 7, 2008.

For those of you who are new to One Life to Live. Goldsberry's Evangeline Williamson was in a big triangle with John McBain and Natalie Buchanan. The JoVan vs. Jolie online fan wars were legendary in their time, though they are now no more than a distant memory, they could be considered by some to be urban legend.
Unfortunately, after the triangle ended the show didn't seem to know to do with the character of Evangeline and she ended up in a coma and the character was written off screen.

I'm just glad she is away from a show that didn't do anything for her as a Renee fan I can now see her work her craft...she can leave this bottom of the barrel sudster and look forward to good things.
As for Jovan and Jolie I am so far removed and really don't care out with the old in with the new...she has moved on and so have I.

Hmmm... Rent huh? Seen it three times on Broadway, its my favorite musical. I didn't know its run had been extended, thats awesome! Maybe I'll have to go a fourth time to see her!

The reason Evangeline is in a coma is ABC didn't have the good sense to re-sign Renee Goldsberry. I enjoyed her last year as Evangeline on the show. I liked Evangeline and Cristian and still miss the character and the actress. OLTL is not the same without her.

It's hard to watch the show without her...I hated what DH did to her character, but REG carried a character for years with no back history, and no anchor to the core of the show...sheer genius....no matter if you hated her or loved her, people have always felt passionately about her character.. Still experiencing tangeline withdrawals.

There was a time when I wanted nothing more that to have REG back on OLTL. But I think the show's a waste. No talented person should be subjected to Frons and Valentini, and Carlivati has no interest in writing for any character he can't dig up out of an Egyptian tomb. Until there's a real changing of the guard she'd be wasted on the show.
