Ok everyone here they are! And it appears the only soap to gain viewers is The Young and the Restless while on the other side of the spectrum Guiding Light has hit a new all-time lowest rating ever at 1.5! Ouch. At least As the World Turns, Bold and the Beautiful and Days of Our Lives stayed the same and didn't drop too. The same can't be said for the ABC soaps which all dropped by -0.1.

June 23, 2008 - June 27, 2008

1 Y&R 3.6

2 B&B 2.5

3 GH 2.1

4 OLTL 2.0

5 AMC 1.9

5 ATWT 1.9

5 DOOL 1.9

8 GL 1.5 (NEW Lowest Ratings Ever!)

But are these ratings really all that bad? I was trying to gain some perspective today by looking at other shows including primetime, cable and syndicated stuff. Other "daytime" shows have Oprah at the top spot around a 4.2, Dr. Phil is at 3.3, Daytime Emmy Award Winner Ellen is further behind at 1.6, Rachael Ray closely behind at a 1.5, Montel Williams at 1.2, and finally Martha Stewart at 0.8. So if the ever popular Martha Stewart can keep going at a 0.8, I think we can hope that Guiding Light may have more lasting power than we ever thought possible.

Overall all TV shows in general have lost viewership over the past 10 or so years mainly due to the influence of the internet and the dilution of the market with a billion-and-one channels people can now choose to watch besides the basic networks. I think these ratings are our new reality. The days of soaps reaching 4.0 on average are now over!
