Star Jones Sets Sights on Comeback

If dopes like Sherri and Elisabeth can be allowed on the airwaves my Star can definitely make a comeback! I’d love to see her on Master P’s struggling new network Better Black TV with a daytime talk show.

Oh God, tgable07, don’t remind me.

Flava Flav couldn’t be more of a negative black stereotype if he ate watermelon and tap danced holding a fried chicken leg while dancing w/ Shirley Temple!

THANK  YOU Season! I am so tired of Flava Flav and that other MINSTREL New York I don’t know what to do. Quality black shows like Girlfriends and The Game, both which had higher ratings than Gossip Girl, get no love or promotion and in the case of Girlfriends, not even a doggone farewell episode, but Hollyweird continues to put on these modern day Step and Fetch It shows.

Jamey ita w/ you. I am in no way praising Flava flav in fact he is a gigantic blemish on our race but I was commenting on the fact that he is popular which is sad statement on America.

Oh I know tgable07, I was just agreeing with Season, LOL. Glad to hear others feel the same way. So many of my otherwise educated friends love that hot mess! I’m like all that fool needs is some spoons and/or a bone through his nose.

People like Rosie and Babs don’t like Star because she is strong, opinionated and doesn’t back down. So of course they lable her as a diva or difficult. It is so funny how so many in pop culture make a career out of being divas, Joan Collins, etc., but when a woman of color acts like she has it going on it intimidates the mess out of people! That’s why Barbara went and got a dumbed down version of Star. She took one look at Sherri and thought "Now see, she’s funny, black, sassy and…well…stupid! We can deal with her!"

I didn’t mind Star until she started selling sponsorships to her wedding.

It is the same reason I fast forward through Barbara Walters when she starts promoting her stupid book. I love it when I tune in and find out BW is off for the day.

I miss Meredith Viera. She was a built in Bull-Sh#t meter.

The best thing to ever happen to Meredith was CBS! I know she’s glad she’s no longer around that pit of angry woman (see I was nice, I didn’t use any derogatory names for the women of The Spew).

Who cares about Star. I don’t give a hoot either way.

Luke you really need to post that AMC’s beloved Eileen Herlie died. I can’t believe it’s not up on the site yet. Let’s honor this wonderful women and our beloved Myrtle Fargate.

season, I read it over at tvguide.com, it’s on the hone page. I was crushed, it’s so sad. All our great actors that made hollywood and television what is is today, are leaving us. Heart broken.

Ladyofthelake, Luke didn’t have a chance to post about Eileen because the news broke while we were all at our day jobs. Unlike the people at TV Guide.com, we all have full-time jobs and aren’t able to always be in front of our computers to break stories.

Oh sorry Jamey, guess you told me rightl. Well, sorry, I was just so crushed by it when I heard the news and surprised that tv guide would break something about a soap. I do work from home, so in between all the paper work (just like a full time job) and house work, I saw the news earlier.

It’s no problem Ladyofthelake, actually a friend who is close to the ABC actors  told me about her passing this morning. But when I called, ABC didn’t confirm it and I was fearful to post it until we had something official. I figured the news would break before I could get home.

I think a lot of people are very intimidated by a very strong highly educated woman. Also, about the sponsorship for her wedding, hey some may think it was tacky, but you have to give it to her, she was smart enough to use her status to get a freebies.

It’s still so sad. I do apologize again Jamey, and to Luke. I sometimes forget that people have the joy of leaving their house for work and not getting news sooner then I do. I’m a little stir crazy. I’m surprised ABC didn’t come out with something. Caught everybody off guard I guess.

LOL…it’s ok ladyofthelake we understand. I dream of the day of being able to work from home. Until then I work 50 hr weeks at my day job while trying to do my part at blogging all the news and commentary as well as edit and publish two podcasts. That’s why it’s especially important for people to send us tips on the tip line because, even though we do our best, it’s impossible to try and cover everything while at work.

Luke (and all the DC Staffers)

I had no idea you guys all had full-time day jobs in addition to working on this site. You all should be commended for keeping it as up-to-date and current as you do. “Professional” sites that you would think would have a paid staff to oversee their content (SoapNet.com, SoapOperaDiget.com, TVGuide.com, not that I’m mentioning any names ;) ) don’t keep half as current as you do. You have quickly become my go-to site for soap news, and I love that there are people as dedicated in this world as I am to this genre and keeping it alive.

    THANK YOU!!! :)

P.S. Back on topic. Stick a fork in Star. She’s done. Her 15 minutes of fame are over. And it has nothing to do with her race, it’s that she’s been out of the spotlight, and she’s just not as likable as some of the other panelists on The View. Plus, she’s totally changed her image, as if who she was before wasn’t good enough. I liked her before she got married and skinny. She always talked about being proud of her body and her looks. That’s why I don’t like her, b/c I feel like all of that was a lie, and then she lied about how she lost the weight, which is what Rosie called her on. I don’t even recognize her anymore, physically or personality-wise.

Thank you guys for all that you do for us & this site.
This is like a daily Soap Opera Digest!
I forgot how I found this site back in January, but I thank God everyday that I did.

Side Note: If you ever need a special guest on the podcast or a blogger. I’m your man… :)

Star had to lose the weight or she would die. It wasn’t about her lying about feeling good about herself as a plus-sized woman. I am sure that was true. Star experienced the same thing that happened when Oprah first lost all that weight. She lost appeal, because a lot of viewers were comfortable seeing her as the fat, safe friend. Good for her for taking a positive step for her life and health.

And who was Rosie O’Donnell who hid her sexuality for the entire five year run of her original show, pretending to have a crush on Tom Cruise, etc. and then came out when it suited her agenda, to talk about Star’s decision to keep private the way she lost weight? Rosie loves to "call people" on things, but let someone call her on her b.s., i.e. Kelly Ripa, Donald Trump, she acts like she’s been victimized. That’s my problem with people who try to make a point of forcing people to reveal their personal truths when they are liars themselves. It’s hypocriticial.

I’m all for Ms. Jones coming back to TV. I can’t wait. As for her, "lying," about her weight loss I get why she did it. Everytime you mention gastric bypass who are the ones you see first as a celeb? Carnie Wilson and Al Roker. They are the de facto spokespersons for the processs even though they never officially signed up for it. Everytime you see them that’s what someone mentions and Star never wanted to be that person. I get understand that since it would seem as though she endorses it for weight loss even though she did it for health reasons.

If Star had stayed fat, "sassy" and Mammy-esque they would have been just fine with her. They were not comfortable with her coming into her personal power. There are unfortunately only a few archetypes pop culture will accept for black women in the industry, the fair-skinned goddess, i.e. Tyra, Beyonce (who they airbrush the mess out of, because I have seen her in person and she is darker than me), Halle; the  goof, Sherri, or the big, "sassy" Mammy. Heaven forbid a black woman be powerful, in charge and confident, etc.
