Grey's Anatomy's Chandra Wilson: OLTL Rapemance "Gross and Wrong"

I now have another reason to love Bailey besides her calling those germ spreaders on Grey's Anatomy "nasty". Grey's true star Chandra Wilson tells TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco what we here at DC and Branco have been saying since One Life to Live's rapemance storyline between Todd and Marty jumped off, it's a hot, exploitive mess.

“It’s gross and wrong. The show hasn’t been good since the spring. To be honest, I’ve had trouble watching it, especially with all that Mendorra and 1968 silliness.”

I have a feeling Frons won't be asking Wilson to tell soap fans what her something is any time soon.

I love Chandra Wilson's comment about the digusting s/l on OLTL. She does not care about what Frons is doing and she is telling it like it is.

Are you kidding me!? The 1968 stuff was pure soap! I loved every last second of it. Yeah, the Todd and Marty thing is pretty effed up, but I have been on the edge of my seat lately and have witness some top-notch acting, IMO.

B-lister?! This woman is not only an Emmy nominated actress but a winner of the SAG award for Best Actress (an award that is voted on by her acting peers) and has more talent in her right pinky than most of Hollywood combined! And that Back to the Future crap of a s/l was as pure as Ivory soap and just as dry! I loves me some Chandra!

I like Chandra, but hers is just an opinion like any other. I guess it's interesting to hear, but it does not ultimately prove anything about the storyline. The Todd and Marty story is polarizing for many, and she happens to fall on the negative side.

I personally like the Todd and Marty storyline. I don't consider it a rapemance or romance or any kind of mance that I can think of. It's a complex storyline that really delves into the psyches of these characters; the fact that it involves difficult and icky material does not automatically make it a bad storyline if its written and acted well. I think it is. And the fallout that is going on right now this week and last has been spec-tac-ular. The women on this show are knocking it out of the park.

I think you're missing out Chandra! Smile

I with you, season, I love Chandra and she is speaking the truth about OLTL. She loves the industry and not afraid to say she loves soaps and speaking out about what went wrong.

"I have a feeling Frons won't be asking Wilson to tell soap fans what her something is any time soon."

LOL! Jamey, that's the best laugh I've had today. Hopefully more people will speak out about this abominal storyline which will eventually lead to Frons' loooong overdue firing.

Jamey, the way you wrote your article suggests that Wilson said that the storyline is a "hot exploitative mess". Those are YOUR words. She never said them, though you say she did. Perhaps you require an editor?

Ummm, yeah, I summarized our feelings on the story and compared them to Chandra's with her actual words in quotes, direct quotes, but thanks for the help. Much appreciated, are you looking for the job? Maybe I'll write you a letter of recommendation. Tongue

Uhm okay, while I hate that Todd and Marty actually slept together...the rest of the storyline was true soap opera...I loved the psychological aspect of it. And the fallout scenes have been some of the best acting on daytime tv I have ever scene! If they would have just left the sex out of it, it would be a perfect soap storyline.

And I'm sorry to disagree with Chandra, but OLTL has been one of the best soaps on tv this year...the acting is great, the dialogue is great, and the storylines actually keep me interested in a true ol' fashioned soap opera way. Chandra is an ABC soap fan...does she actually prefer GH to OLTL these days? Perhaps she likes hearing the same dialogue over and over and the storylines never making any sense, and the mob running around shooting up people. If that is what she likes, then I can understand why she wouldn't like OLTL right now.

OLTL rocks these days! And sorry to say, but Chandra's show sucks this year...Grey's is having a terrible year....and the whole Denny thing is just stupid. Yeah, so I guess you can have sex with a dead ghost guy and that's okay, but going back in time to 1968 just doesn't work for her. Oh, and yes, interns always perform secret operations on themselves in the basement of the hospital...oh, and when they get caught, they never get fired or anything. Whatever.

OLTL will be on longer than Grey's ever will be.

LMAO People this woman spoke as a fan of the show, not comparing it to Grey's We don't know how she feels about Grey's. She doesn't write or produce that show, she just acts in it. She is wearing her fan hat here as she has expressed mad love for ABC soaps in the past. It's just her opinion and FYI: Trevor St. John hasn't been too happy with the storyline either.

I love me some Chandra but her sentiments are drowning in irony. In fact, Grey's is having a horrible year and to me it is practically unwatchable. I never thought I would see the day when I would watch DespHoes regularly and not Grey's.

At any rate, OLTL is by far the most sophisticated and thought provoking soap on television (hence the huge upswing in ratings for November). Honestly, Susan Haskell and TSJ are acting rings around the rest of daytime. The acting choices that Susan has made over the past month are nothing short of amazing and I cringe at the thought of Christina Chambers playing this story.

OLTL is really clicking on all cylinders (although I already miss my Tina!). I only hope that we aren't rushed into a John and Marty romance!

I agree that Grey's is bad right now, I do agree with the s/l with Todd and Marty. If they didn't sleep together, it would be a great s/l about Todd wanting to be a hero in Marty's eyes. but Frons went and put the idea of having her sleep with her rapist. That's is going really well, right Frons? No, they didn't need to do that because they could of told a story about Todd doing right be Marty by taking care of her. No, Todd is irredeemable in my eyes and the show should just killed the character and have a great murder mystery and the repercussion of Todd's death will have consequences on the whole town for years to come. I think that Ron can write a Todd murder mystery and play its beats out and fans and non fans would tune in.

Sorry, I mean to say I do not agree with the Todd and Marty s/l. I think that Chandra is speaking the truth about OLTL. It was unwatchable during the summer and fall, but the performances during the Todd and Marty s/l, Susan Haskell and Trevor St. John has been hitting it out of the ballpark with the acting, even though I hate the s/l. I feel that the show did a disservice of Todd's character and I do believe that they should just killed the character off.

Simon, I guess this is where I disagree..lol. I don't understand comments like "a disservice of Todd's character". If anything, this story cements him to his core. Todd is a rapist. Always has been, always will be. Can you wake up one morning and say Im not a rapist anymore? Did they ever send him to rehab or was falling in love with Rebacca his therapy? The audience fell in love with this character (or actor) even after many dispecable acts. I'm not going to list the 5 that just came to the top of my head...lol...but I find what he was planning for Star more disturbing than the "Tarty" storyline.

I do agree with a good murder mystery. I want Addie to shoot him, throw his body over a bridge and right before Addie is convicted of murder..Todd returns. This should take 6-9 months right? We need a break from Todd...lol

OLTL viewers come in different forms, but I have to agree with this assessment. I have a feeling if me and Chandra were watching the show together we would have nothing but jokes and cynicism to throw at the television. Unfortunately I'm not watching the show with her, so I'm just not watching. This is not the same OLTL of 10 years ago, but hell, the only show with any real consistency as of late is Y&R and occasionally GH. OLTL is has more mood swings than a transvestite having a sex change.
