Soaps.com is reporting that One Life to Live star Kamar de los Reyes is leaving his role as Antonio Vega. According to the web site, the OLTL hunk has made plans with the show to leave at the end of Jan 09.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to readers of ABC's Soaps in Depth. The actor gave a quote that left some wondering if he was one the way out or not.
I realized that after 10 years of being on OLTL, Antonio is no longer the central figure that I believe he deserves to be. I realize this is not intentional on the show’s part, but over the years, he has become less and less valued. I think it may be time to say goodbye.
Fans may recall that the actor portrayed the fomer gang banger turned cop from its inception in 1995 until 1997. In 1998, the actor reprised his role for a guest stint and finally returned to the role in 2000.

I liked Antonio more this last year, but it's no great loss; and it is my understanding that no one person is the "star" of a soap opera -- it's an ensemble, no matter what Frons might think.
Also, quitting a good job in this economy seems a little foolish to me, but the statement he made makes it clear that this is a ego-driven move.
Personally, I wouldn't leave the door open for him to return. Antonio Vega should be planted in the ground.
Not that it would mean he still couldn't come back.

i hope wonderful things happen for Kamar.
i appreciate all that he has put into building up the VEGA family and the ANGEL SQUARE community.
while ANTONIO has never been a favorite of mine, i have respect and affection for the character, and i know Mr de los Reyes has given many years to the show.
i hope this doesnt mean we'll see less CARLOTTA or TALIA!

I think there is a place for Kamar, and that is to be part of the ensemble. Antonio was such a front-burner character for so long, and now OLTL is at a nice point where it has a great balance of storyline at the moment, and Kamar should know that Antonio's turn at the plate will come soon enough. (Speaking for myself, I needed a break from Antonio, but I don't want him completely off the canvas.)
In the meantime? Enjoy the paycheck, dude, you gots alimony to pay!

Dare I hope that TPTB could convince REG to return? Since Cristian is losing his brother and his lover on the show, it's about time for Vangie to rise from her coma! Plus, it would give Layla more connection to the canvas since she will be losing Sarah as her roommate. And I for one would like to see Vangie's reaction to what Todd has been up to lately! }:)

I'm loving OLTL right now. I'm sorry that Kamar doesn't feel like Antonio is getting the attention he feels he deserves. I am sure that is frustrating as an actor. With that said, all characters in daytime rotate on and off the front burner. Antonio is a good character, but so are all the other characters on the soap. I'll miss having Antonio in Llanview, but the show will go on without him.
