When Is a "Snub" Really a Snub?

In an interview with Extra the Mighty O, as Jamey likes to call her, let it be known that she'd tried to get an interview with Sarah Palin. Here is the quote.

"I said I would be happy to talk to Sarah Palin when the election was over," Oprah reveals to "Extra." "I went and tried to talk to Sarah Palin and instead she talked to Greta Van Susteren. She talked to Matt Lauer. She talked to Larry King, but she didn't talk to me. But maybe she'll talk to me now that she has a book deal."

Of course many of the mainstream celebrity blogs ran it as "Sarah Palin Snubs Oprah."

Here is my question. Is it really a "snub" when a person chooses not to go on the show of a person who actively worked to defeat them? If Obama had lost and Sean Hannity extended Joe Biden an invitation to visit Hannity & Colmes and Biden went elsewhere would that be considered a "snub?" Or did Obama "snub" the ladies at The View by not visiting that show once he became the presidential nominee even though he dropped by Ellen?

When is a "snub" actually a snub?

In other Oprah/Obama news: Oprah is taking her show to Washington D.C. for inauguration week.

Turning down Hannity and

Turning down Hannity and Colmes is one thing....

Turning down Oprah is like spitting in the face of God. Wink

Oprah didn't work diligently

Oprah didn't work diligently to defeat Sarah Palin. She worked to get the candidate she endorsed in the office. She made a decision not to use her show as an election platform, because she endorsed Obama and has journalistic integrity, unlike Sarah's talk show pal Elisabeth Hasselbeck who endorsed McCain and Palin and used the airwaves to promote her agenda and then went out to campaign for Palin. That is unethical and actually was once concerned questionable in a legal since. All Oprah is saying is she offered her the chance to come on after the election and Palin decided to go to other places. Other blogs say snub, they can use the term they want. As for Obama, I bet he definitely would go on Hannity and Colmes. He has faced his accusers and critics many time. Palin is the one who refused to answer certain questions and picked and chosed where she would go to steer clear of the "liberal media". Oprah never went to any rallies speaking negative or inflammatory remarks about Sarah Palin, nor did she use her show to do so, like Hasselbeck did everytime she helped prey on Middle America's fears by alluding that Obama was some sort of terrorist supporter on her show, then she went out and campaigned for her. You didn't see the other View women out there doing that, because they realized it was unethical and even Barbara didn't like it, though she was too much of a hypocrite to stop Elisabeth. It's so funny that Oprah gets accused for helping Obama, when she could have used her wildly popular show to promote him daily, but she didn't. But Sarah's talk show friend did and Barbara walked a way with ratings gold. So much for integrity in journalism.

Sorry, but IMHO it's

Sorry, but IMHO it's perfectly ok for Palin to pick & choose among hosts. It needs to be a mutually beneficial relationship. Where would the benefit be for Palin to go on Winfrey's show? Winfrey would draw ratings---but what would Palin get? An opportunity to be watched as she went into the "lioness' den," indubitably to be criticized for whatever would have come out of her mouth? Who watches Oprah? Oprah fans, who, perfectly reasonably, think she is bright and right in what she says, and support some or many or even one of the causes that Winfrey supports. That's just fine, we are all entitled to our opinions. I just think that in this instance Palin took the high road--there are times when the best solution is to just walk away.

Where would the benefit be

Where would the benefit be for Palin to go on Winfrey's show?

Umm, Oprah basically saved the publishing industry and Palin is writing a book. Going on Oprah's show if you are hawking a book is akin to a pilgrimage to Mecca. Whether Palin likes her or not, it is not a good move for her book to snub Oprah and that's a proven fact. Also, what lioness' den??? Did you see Oprah's interviews with Bush, she is very fair and diplomatic. This woman interviewed a Klansman and let him tell his side of the story. Do you honestly think Obama would get the same courtesy on Fox News?

I think the deal is that

I think the deal is that Palin doesn't want to be on Oprah -- she wants to be Oprah!

OH you hit a nerve with this

OH you hit a nerve with this one. You are so right, is it really a "snub" when you choose not to go on a show that threw the finger up at you when you were the "must have guest"? Hell no. Sarah Palin has my utmost respect for staying away from Oprah.

I had been a longtime fan of Oprah. Assuming she represented all people and especially women but through the election process it became crystal clear that simply is not the case. When a woman, who created her own success, a mother, all things Oprah's show has stood for the past how many years rose into the spotlight as did Sarah Palin and garnered the attention Oprah's show demands - Oprah said no thanks, I got my man. You cannot tell me if the roles were reversed and Oprah was presently supporting John Kerry and a black woman rose to center stage that she wouldn't have had her on in a heartbeat. You're damm right she would have. For this hypocracy and out right prejudice - I will NEVER watch or support Oprah again.

Palin 2013! She is what you see, like it or not, and she doesn't pretend to be something else like one Ms. O.

I personally think Oprah

I personally think Oprah gives herself too much credit. When the public wanted to know more about Palin Oprah refused to have her on her show. Figuring it would hurt her candidate's chance. Now that she has her man in office she is reaching out to Palin to get the first dibbs on her book deal info.
So basically the question should be who snubbed Who first my bets on Oprah.

Oprah didn't have any

Oprah didn't have any political candidates on during the election season, it had nothing to do with Sarah Palin. It had to do with not being construed as showing a bias. I love how these facts get twisted. She made the decision not to have any political candidates on before Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's VP. Also that whole thing about if it was a black female politician she would have interviewed her is absurd. If Condoleeza had been the V.P. pick it wouldn't have changed a stance Oprah  made at the times she first decided to endorse Obama.

It amazes me how people love to assume people endorsed Barack strictly on skin tone. Guess what, he is not the first black to take a stab at the presidency. Blacks didn't help get Jesse Jackson the nod, so Barack had much more going for him than his skin color.

Oprah catches it from both sides. You can go to numerous black blogs where many blacks feel she thinks she is "all that" and too good for black folks or only caters to white women. Now, because she supported Barack Obama, who happened to be black, she is being accused of not showing the same consideration to Palin because she wasn't black? That is absolutely ridiculous.

Sure the business woman in Oprah knows Palin, on the 14th of her 15 minutes of fame, would make for ratings gold, but she is not losing sleep about this "snub". Oprah is a one-woman dynasty and has seen many a political star, who made a big splash Perot, Jesse Ventura, more for their personality than their capabilities to actually hold a public office, Sarah Palin is simply the latest in a long line.

Palin will never get the nod in 2013, because much of her own party won't allow that to happen. I can't imagine that all the smart, capable Republican women, like Kay Bailey Hutchison from Texas would ever stand by and allow their party to be mocked on an international stage again because of Sarah Palin. Do you honestly think Oprah was worried this woman was a threat to Barack Obama? Sarah Palin thought she was running for Miss Georgia World not the presidency, complete with her cutesy-tootsey remarks when asked about major issues concerning national defense and foreign policy and her faux "awe shucks" schtick. If Palin is so "you get what you see" why was she always ducking and dodging questions with the interviews she did get?

Why would Palin go and

Why would Palin go and interview with somebody intelligent? She will only look bad.

Ophra was very respectful of her audience and did NOT use them to promote ANY candidate. Palin knows NOTHING about respect.

Thank god she did not accept, I watch Oprah and I would hate to have to skip one of her episode.

Why people would want to watch an air head is beyond me!

I hate all things Oprah,

I hate all things Oprah, seriously. When someone comes up to you and says they read The Grapes of Wrath because Oprah said so, it's time the world ended. I read that book when I was seven, and nobody told me to. I have an issue with fake readers, only reading when something is in or some celebrity tells you to do it. I also hate Oprah for other reasons, to many to write down.

Now that I stated my hate, I think Oprah had a right to choose who she wanted to be on her show. Palin has the right also to decide who's show she wants to be on. We live in what's supposed to be a free world, in this case, free to decide what talk show you want to be on and who you don't want on. Palin doesn't need Oprah and Oprah doesn't need Palin.

My dislike for Oprah stays the same, lol.

OMG, now the woman is being

OMG, now the woman is being hated on for inspiring people to read? LMAO The publishing industry was dying on the vine before she started her book club. Everything this woman does is ridiculed when really all anyone has to do is turn off the channel. She doesn't try to legislate her opinion, like Sarah Palin did when she tried to get all gay or lesbian young adult fiction banned from libraries in Alaska.

Jamey, I couldn't have said

Jamey, I couldn't have said it better myself! That was perfect. It's amazing how people say that she wouldn't have Palin on her show during the election but I didn't see Obama on her show. If Oprah was all about getting a black man into the White House then why didn't she pimp him on her show every chance she got. Why? Because she made a conscience decision that it wouldn't be prudent.

It's a catch-22. She's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. I like Oprah. I'm not as in love w/ her as some people. Sometimes I find it irksome how she is put on a pedestal as if she's the Second Coming. Oprah is a human being. She cannot possibly represent ALL people nor should she be expected to. No one should be that narcissistic as to think that one person, whether they be a talk show host or a political candidate, should be exactly like them or exactly the way you want them to be. If they are they are either Jesus or they have a serious case of DID!

Also, Palin could barely get through a relatively easy interview, for anyone else, w/ Katie Couric so I don't blame her for not wanting to have the Mighty O ask her questions.

Jamey, I don't hate Oprah

Jamey, I don't hate Oprah solely because she made some people read for pure enjoyment. I hate that fact, that because she's Oprah, people read those books because they thought it was in and really didn't give a shit about them. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well. It's like it's the new fad. I'm such a reader, I live in B&N, nobody ever had to tell me to read a book. I don't know, it's an issue for me. I suppose you have to be me to really understand it, lol. Who would want that.

Oh I get what you're saying. LOL I make fun about it all the time. I actuallty was for Hillary Clinton early on, but I told a friend of mine the day Oprah endorsed Obama,

"Uh oh Pat, game over."

"Why?" she asked. "Hillary still has a chance!"

"No she don't, The Mighty O has spoken. Soccer Moms across America will now vote for Barack Obama, even the Republican ones. They will be in the booth about to vote for a Republican candidate and Oprah will appear on their shoulder and go "Ah, ah ah!" and they will vote for Obama!"

I always say if Oprah came on her show and said, "I took a dump in my yard and it was the most MOOOOVING experience of my life.Transformational."

Women in suburbs across America would be out front popping on their lawns. LOL God I love Oprah! One day I plan to use her template for my attempts at World Domination as well.

As an avid reader myself, I

As an avid reader myself, I am so glad anybody push people to read! I don't get why it is not a good thing, in fact I think it is a great thing.

A lot of people were never encourage to read and do not have the environment that make reading an acceptable hubby.

I never knew that opening mind to reading was a bad thing in any way, shape or form, silly me I love the fact that people read more!

----- --- ---

As gross as that sounds, I think I'd get a laugh at seeing it. One of my good friends is like that, she'd do it if Oprah said so. She'd do it for sure.

Hmm, I don't think Oprah's magic worked on Tom Crusie though. After he came back from destroying her couches (God, I hope he bought her new ones.) people still thought he was bat shit crazy. I guess Oprah did too.

I get what your saying,

I get what your saying, ladyofthelake. I personally steer clear of books w/ the OPRAH label on them. LOL! It's not people reading books that's the issue it's people reading a book because Oprah told them to that's the problem. It seems more like a fashion trend than someone genuinely interested in reading.
