Catching Up with Genie Francis

The sequel to Genie Francis’ Hallmark Channel movie The Note, The Note II: Taking a Chance on Love premieres on Saturday, January 31. With the success of The Note, a second installment turns this into a franchise for Genie and a way to move on from her iconic role as Laura Spencer on General Hospital.  In a recent interview, Francis speaks about her time on General Hospital and the opening paragraph seems to insinuate that a return to Port Charles is not likely.

Genie Francis figures the time has come for everyone to leave Laura Spencer behind and face the fact that the little teenager who captured the heart of America in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s is gone and is never coming back – but that a 46-year-old actress named Genie Francis is ready for her close up, Mr. DeMille.

“I think enough time has passed to finally let go of that little ingénue Laura and look at who I am today,” Francis declares. “I’d say I’m just about ready to play Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I’m hoping America can rediscover me in a new way. And I’m honestly feeling like that can really happen now.”

While most fans were hoping for a return and it was RUMORED to be happening… this seems to shoot those RUMORS down. I agree Jamey, she’s given GH plenty and got very little in return.

I will always hold out for a Luke & Laura reunion!
Fuck Jill Faren Phelps that vindictive bitch!
Fuck Brian Frons that misogynistic creep!

I was thinking that maybe Genie F will join the cast of AMC (no not as Ceara) as Laura Spencer to help boost their ratings!!!!!!!!!!! I know she was on AMC a while back BUT not as in her iconic role

I love Genie Francis and hope that the rumors is true and Guza will be out and we may have Genie back on as Laura. I do agree that the show is a lost without her and I glad that she is moving on and I hope she is on another daytime soap or another program.

Jill Phelps, Bob Guza and Brian Frons’ vision for GH has all but put this iconic soap in it’s perverbial grave. The ratings prove that the shift toward a soap filled with mob violence and degrading women as nothing more than mob bimbo’s has left this history making soap in a flaming heap.

For the past 5 years, we have watched this soap drop it’s veteran cast and completely ignore the fans who are it’s reason for survival and it’s vets for the legacy they built.

General Hospital is in part Luke and Laura and the Spencer family. To suggest that the 18 year old girl is forever locked in place would have meant not watching the Spencer family grow, mature and face the dilemma’s of life in Port Charles. I am not saying Luke and Laura must live on as a couple, but they are the soul of this soap, much like Erica Cane is to AMC.

The new and final GH (because it IS dying from it’s current cancer of writers), cannot compare to what it once was. Sub par actors, sub par repetitive storylines that are laden with mind numbing macho thugs and the women who must have them. I mean really, if ABC wants to end GH, just end it without ruining it’s legacy.

Genie is right to have found it within herself to let “Laura go” …. because the way ABC and GH have handled things the past 5 to 6 years, it’s viewers may need to wise up and follow her example.

    Bob Guza must GO!

May I be so bold as to say that Tony Geary should follow her example. Staying on this piss-poor show is doing him no favors at all. Kudos to Genie for standing up and not taking the crap any longer.

Disillusioned GH fan…….ICAM…..I feel like the unholy trio of Guza, Phelps, & Frons are purposely ruining GH. I’d rather see GH end with dignity, than watch it go even further down the sewer. jmho
