DC #346: CBS and Days Lull Before The Storm

The only reason Ari deserves an emmy nomination is because she is the only character getting half way decent material to work with. The rest of the cast is like window dressing. Give Kristian A. some good scenes and I'm sure she could blow Ms. Zucker out of the water. When I hear about great actors such as Thaao P. struggling to find good material to send in to the Emmys, that just makes me angry. Sorry I can't celebrate one actor's success when it is at the expense of so many others. Like James Scott, good for Ari, but what about him? EJ has become the most regressed character while Nicole has the limelight.

Between Nicole and Melanie, I can't decide who's Dena's faovrite is. Sorry but I'm having OLTL Spencer flashbacks with these two.

Yes, Days storylines are getting better. As much as I don't like the J&M exit because it's just not right, I am optimistic about the show. It seems like some progess has been made to figure out pairings, because for a while there you never knew who was paired with whom. Having said that, my big question is, what are they going to do with EJ? Like Snowi said, he is taking a back seat to Nicole. I think Days has been best when the foundation of the show was with Bradys vs. DiMeras, not who's the baby daddy? Family vs. family is so much easier to establish a foundation for anomisty. I would like for 2009 to be when we find out whether EJ can be a ruthless DiMera. Nicole is already lining up the fact she can stand behind EJ, no matter what measures he must take with business dealings. It makes them a couple, unlike EJ and Sami. EJami fits because of the way that EJ is less ruthless than the DiMeras and Sami is more scheming than the Bradys, but putting them together doesn't do anything for the rest of the show. It makes the Brady/DiMera rivalry awkward. I think EJami should still share a soft spot for each other, but as much as I wanted them to work it out for a long time, it just isn't in the best interest of the show. I want to see EJ go toe to toe with Brady and Phillip and have Bo and Roman on his tail, but never be caught, carrying on the DiMera legecy. I also want Sami to scheme, but this time with Rafe chasing her and he is always one step ahead and just as she is about to cause herself an enormous amount of trouble, he cuts her off and she is ever so indebted to him, just like Brady women of the past.

I love that people act like Ari's Nicole is a newer character than EJ. She has history with every character on the show, and some who are no longer on the show. She should not play second fiddle to EJ. EJ gets enough airtime as it is and lets face it he's only interesting when he's evil.

The Nicole's stuff is still horrible writing but the difference is that Ari is able to make it work. She's good. She's taking the stink of of some of the crap they're giving her.

I've always said they need to stretch Ali S. some. See what she could do. I think Sami should have lost her baby. I would have loved to seen those scenes. Sami in the dark cabin, with nothing and no one to latch on or rail against. Turning inward. Maybe we would have seen some growth.

Here I thought you all would talk more about Noah & Luke finally getting busy since it was something you all wanted to happen. :?

ATWT has been better these past few weeks that it has been in a VERY long time. Did they get new writers cause even the dialogue was a little better.I am enjoying all of the Carly & Craig scenes. Dusty is coming off as a cavemen and I find myself yelling STFU at my TV whenever he is on-screen.

DOOL is a hot mess but it is less painful than it's been in a while. I DVR it every day though rarely make it to the end of an episode. I still am bored with Sami & Rafe. Don't even get me started on Kate, Daniel & Chloe. I have to disagree with Jamey about it being hot. Daniel & Chloe repulse me because of hw their lust story started.

I have to clarify. I am an EJAMI fan to the end. In no way do I want EJ with Nicole. This pairing has done nothing good for him. Nicole is lying and making a fool out of him at every turn. She's in it for herself. It's all about what she wants and deserves.

That's why I can't stand this. EJ shouldn't be anybody's fool. Especially not Nicole's. I'll be doing a dance of glee when this storyline is finally over and EJ and Sami are actually in the same room together again.

Let Brady have Nicole.

Okay can someone please let me know where i can get the 'special' stuff that you guys are using to make DAYS storylines seem like they are improving?

I will agree the Chloe/Daniel/Lucas triangle is good, and Eric M/Ari Z are doing amazing work, ((SEE I also told you He isn't another Passions Loser, just because no one really knew how to write over at Passions doesn't mean the acting all sucked )). But out side of that, there is really nothing.

You want me to care that Nicole is trying to buy a baby off Ebay? Or that her doctor is put on contract ? Sorry I don't he is just a waste of air time, Bo is seeing silly visions (Thou according to Brooke's spoilers it mite give Patch / Kayla a storyline...) and EJ has this silly boy hair cut.

Luke you mite be tuning into this instead of AMC, but when i watch soaps live I am tuning into GUIDING LIGHT instead, and that is sad.

I do not disagree you. I have been scratching my head wondering why Sami was ushered out of Salem from late October. If Ari wanted to be stretched and she has been awesome with her acting and the character is on her own with this pregnancy, why not write her set away from town? I don't get why this decision was made by the TPTB, especially since the fans clearly love EJami. Dena even writes about EJami and the power of the fan base in most of her blogs, so why????? And then, when Sami was going to paired up with Galen and I didn't know him, I was mad and ready to leave. So, what can I say, I'm a sucker for bodyguard stories. Yes, this a copycat Roman/Marlena, but it shows Dena looking to Days history to write and that's a positive to me in list of negatives. The one thing I can say is that whatever they decide to do with EJ/Sami/Rafe/Nicole/Brady is good with me and I can't remember when I've liked a whole grouping of characters at Days, since the 80's. It has set me up to start hoping 2009 looks something like the Days 80's and that is why I wrote the above. I believe they are going to start to center things around the alternative fuel project and not the babies and this is what I want the most, above the character's pairings. I am hoping Galen stays, with Sami or not, I think the Salem PD needs some new blood to keep it's presence vibrant on the show.
All in all, I apologize, Snowi, if I went down a trail you wouldn't have. I'm on your side, for EJami as well as Safe.

I just think there needs to be balance. Because the only one getting all the props now is Ari basically because she is the only one getting the meaty stuff.

I disagree about the show being any better.

Are Chloe and Daniel gorgeous? Yes. Do I care? No! Daniel came in and was paired with Chelsea and then jumped over to Kate and then all of sudden has developed "feelings" for Chloe. I have NO interest in the story because the next female to be treated by Daniel will be his next conquest. He's jumping from one woman to the next with no development in between. I fast forward through the scenes rather than sit and watch it. Snooze.

As for Chloe, I loved her as "Ghoul Girl". Ever since she became "beautiful", she's jumped from being Philip's sex buddy to Lucas' girlfriend to now lusting after Daniel. She used to have some sort of morals! Geez! And then having Chloe and Nicole proclaim they are "best friends" at Chloe's engagement party? Really? They HATED each other! Yes, I know they agreed to hate Sami together, but other than that, I haven't seen any actual development where they could "bond" to the point of being "best friends". It's sloppy writing. Soaps have the TIME to develop relationships, to which I NEVER saw the evolution of the two becoming "best friends". It's a joke if there was one!

The only reason Nicole has some semblance of worthy scenes is because she's been given some decent material. It's a bad rehash of a baby switch storyline. From her sudden ability to be able to have a baby to suddenly losing it. LAME! It's just ridiculousness all around. I don't care.

As for the rest of the show. Bo is now Celeste, which is lame. Steve and Kayla are doing nothing. Hope should have been the commisioner but wasn't because of some sexist belief that only she can be home for Ciara (lame!). Max is falling in love with his family...again. The only reason I really watch is to see Marlena leave the canvas, but it's only to learn that John will incapacitated. How romantic! That's the way the fans want to see their favorite couple leave the canvas! Ohhhhhh...NOT! It's sad that the only way to be happy on Days is to be ushered out of Salem or be backburnered. Name the happy couples over the last few years: Austin/Carrie (married last minute and left town...how romantic!), Shawn/Belle (reunited and floating in the water somewhere out there), Steve/Kayla (backburnered), Bo/Hope (psychic visions...LAME), Abe/Lexie ("profound" autism story...they deserve better, especially James Reynolds!), Tony/Anna (Anna who? Where IS she?), John/Marlena (leaving the canvas). Really, what does that show say? Little reason to stay with this show after Doc leaves. Sigh...

While listening to old podcasts I was left to wonder, - Why doesn't Luke talk about The View anymore?

Those first 15 minutes have become a fascinating study in group dynamics. Elizabeth has started muttering under her breath. The whole thing is a little loco. So, Luke please bring back the view-talk.
