DC #381: DC Meets The Pine Valley Podcast

Jamey has a secret. He's been cheating on Daytime Confidential. Lately, whenever he wants a hilarious, juicy, balls-to-the-walls podcast about the goings on in All My Children's fictional Pine Valley, he downloads an episode of the Pine Valley Podcast. On today's episode of Daytime Confidential, for the first time ever, Luke and Jamey sit down with the crazy, sexy Boricua pair behind PVP, Ashley Mendoza and Jordan Hudson!

Poor Luke has to hang on to his seat as Ashley and Jamey match each other, wacky soap character-voice-for-voice and Jamey bows down to soap's true historian Jordan, who actually recalls when Phil called Tara "funny face". But it isn't all fun and games. This foursome, all who adore All My Children, spend plenty of time discussing just what has happened to this once stellar show. They talk about it's rich history and debate whether or not current head writer Chuck Pratt is actually worse than Megan McTavish. We could tell you more, but we don't want to spoil the surprises! This is truly an interview/round table you won't wanna miss! We could tell you more, but we don't want to spoil the surprises!

I started listening to the PVP a few months ago and I became addicted immediately! Ashley and Jordan are a great team and I'm always laughing so loud that I've gotten looks before! I learned never to listen in the school library! Wink Great podcast and I encourage everyone to check out this podcast, even if you don't watch AMC.

i really enjoyed this podcast its was greating hearing some of the history and on set production stuff.

I really had hoped they would of brought back the real Liza. That would be of been so hot. But I guess, once again we are let down by another character come back.

i think its so cool that DC & PVP are such different shows...& that thees room in the world for both!

DC is informative, newsy, & industry-wide

PVP is not really so much ABOUT soaps, as about LIFE through a soap opera filter...& very down-home!

i think of it as the old old SNL WEEKEND UPDATE...
with DC being JANE CURTAIN and PVP being GILDA RADNER!

I just started listening to their podcast and I had hoped Ashley would do her Ryan impersonation.

Well, both writers is making me like not caring about the show anymore.

I didn't say the show. I said the characters. For example, Bianca. Whatever trash was written for Bianca I still loved and cared about her. Now, they have her going behind her sister's back in order to get impregnated by her brother-in-law, writing a letter to her blind ex, etc., etc.

As a longtime All My Children fan, who fondly and sadly remembers the glory days, I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. Yes, it was very critical but I also appreciated Jordan and Ashley’s appreciation and knowledge of Pine Valley history which makes the criticism totally understandable. I for one was willing to give Charles Pratt, Jr. a chance when he first came aboard and at first I actually enjoyed most of his writing, particularly the scenes with Adam and Erica. Now I’m sad to admit that I find myself watching once or twice a week and that’s only if I think Erica Kane’s going to be on there.

I hear Jordan loud and clear regarding his thoughts on AMC fans writing in expressing their current dissatisfaction with the show. I actually agree with him 100% but here’s the rub. I honestly don’t believe anything will change or any viewer related displeasure will be even considered as long as Brian Frons is head of ABC Daytime. If the thought that Brian Frons is on an insidious mandate to ultimately wipe out ABC Daytime, with ABC/Disney full backing and support, then why would he listen to us? I hope to God I’m wrong but I’m just bracing myself for the demise of daytime soaps as we know it, starting with my beloved AMC.

After listening to this episode, I subscribed to the Pine Valley Podcast as soon as I got home. My first episode is the dedication to Eileen ‘Myrtle Fargate’ Herlie and I can tell this is a podcast that I will enjoy listening to. Also, LOVED the Erica Kane impersonation.

bring back mctrash it, at least you could follow some of the logic, this prattle that pratt writes makes no logic from one day to the next, he has done what i though mctrashit would never do, and that is make me hate a FICTIONAL CHARATER and her name is KENDALL HART, THEY HAVE ruined this charater for me, anytime they would put a woman back with her abuser verbally and physcial is the last straw for me. I have stopped watching since kendall came out of her sleep. bring back greenlee, i would love to see her and ZACH in some one on one action.

My two cents - Best AMC storyline ever would be tie between Jenny's summer in NYC with Jessie, or the reveal of Daisy as Nina's friend. Worst storyline: Erica stealing Maria's baby.

I just caught up on my podcasts and enjoyed this one very much I really laughed a lot. I like Ashley and Jordan with the DC crew and her imitations are hilarious. I wholelheartedly agree with the opinion that it seems many times ABC writing is designed to make them fail instead of succeed. I hang on to AMC for Angie/Tad/Jesse/Crystal. I really like their friendship but agree that she has been watered down since her new marriage.

This is a fun one! I also joined the PVP blogspot...can't wait for the next DC meet with PVP.

How did M&M Fail on GH when they haven't had more then 3 scenes together?

I enjoyed the podcast, but 7th Heaven was a GOOD SHOW, yea the final season sucked, but that is because it wasn't supposed to exist lol.

And actually yea I am really thinking about watching the new MP because of Ashley lol, I really did like her on 7th Heaven and I am looking forward to her on MP.

Speaking of MP, Lisa Rinnah was on Veronica mars for like two seconds, she didn't 'act' she just kinda stood around during the first season while her husband (real/on the show) beat their son (LOGAN!!! :( ) then she went and killed her self, she did not impress me at all on VM and if that was one of her 'better' roles i am scared lol.

Jonathon, fans aren't into M&M and GH hasn't invested in them. Therefore they have FAILED!

How exactly are the fans going to actually warm up to a couple if the couple never has scenes together? I mean outside of the times where its a dream and Maxie is in a ugly red wig.

The show hasn't given them a chance, Frons loves to dabble so why can't he dabble and force those two together? LOL I mean seriously he is all for breaking up that Liason  (Which I still haven't seen the spark but that is because they had a total of 10 minutes together last year, and 10 minutes might be pushing it. lol).

I don't think we can say something has 'failed' when it has never actually started...but I do have a idea for a blog post now lol.

Jonathon they've tried to use M&M in settings and its just not working out. Maxie already has a fanbase with Spinelli that fans are loving and rooting for. She also has one with Johnny and instead of tapping into a thing with either man, Frons and co are trying to shove the M&M redux down our throats.

In future Jonathon, instead of trying to chat it up and call me out here message me. Remember what Luke has said about doing that with fellow bloggers..........

7th Heaven reminds me of that awful Secret Life of a Bunch of Teenage Sluts on ABC Family. Those shows are written soooo cheesy and asinine. Like someone tried to make Saved By The Bell a soap opera. 7th Heaven was the first Aaron Spelling show I hated, and it just would never go away! I watched Ashlee Simpson on there and someone needs to take a stap to the casting director's hide for that madness. There's a reason the WB failed. Fox didn't. I don't want the new MP to be one of those overly earnest WB style 90s shows where all the kids either a.) talk like college professors or b.) vascilate between being faux-wholesome and then spreading STDS. It was lunacy! I tried to watch that Secret Lives travesty the other night, and saw this:

Boy: I know we had like hot sex, but I'm a virgin.

Girl: Okay, well maybe we can go to church together!

(Cue kiss, makeout)

JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL that mess is derivative and stupid.

I believe 7th Heaven and The Secret Life of the American Teenager both have the same creater Brenda Hampton.

I haven't watched Secret Life, but I kinda figured that was like "Gilmore Girls The Prequel" or something.

I enjoyed the 'wholesomeness' of 7th Heaven, I was 6 years old when it started and i would watch it with my mom, so I do think the show had a place.

I do agree with there being a reason The WB/UPN both failed, but there are shows that people really loved from both, now were they '90210' big? No, but they got cult follwoings from Buffy to Veronica, to 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Everwood and more the network may not have lived as long as others but it had really good, well written shows in its time.

Now was 7th heaven your cup of tea? Obviously not, but I don't think it was as bad as The Secret life of the american teenager.

John, ITA with what you said regarding Matt/Maxie on GH. The show only gave us a handful of scenes with them (which I thought were cute) but never attempted to pair them. I don't think they forced them down our throats at all. Instead, we got tons of Spixie and now we have Johnny thrown into the mix.

I'm sure TPTB were definitely toying with the idea of M&M, but they realized there would be a big backlash against Matt/JC if they did (actually it started as soon as it was announced JC would join the show), so they put the breaks on, which I think was a good idea. I definitely don't think they failed, because the pairing was never actually done. And what few scenes there have been, worked imo.

Actually DC did a Worst Couples of 2008 blog and the one pick that I really disagreed with was Matt/Maxie. I mean, they weren't a couple, lol (and the spot could have been taken by Todd/Marty's Rapemance instead). To say that we just *know* Fronzie wants to make them a couple doesn't have much to do with what I actually saw onscreen. It could happen eventually, but it hasn't yet.

@Daisy--

Exactly my point!

And my M&M Was on the worst LIST???? Sheesh You JaSam Vs. Liasoners think you have it hard and you get in wars, well you aint got nothing on ME AND MY M&M('s....hum now i want some choclate....) lol but i'm not going to talk about that but dang one of the worst couples....

See I think we all kindof 'know' that is why JC was brought on and that is why we got the backlash, I enjoy Spixie (don't really enjoy JoMax but I don't 'hate' them either) but I just think M&M could work again if they actually get the air time, things need to have a actual 'chance' to happen before it doesn't work imo.

I mean Jake & Taylor on AMC are one of the couples that a lot of people say 'didn't work' the second go around, but did they really get a storyline (after the initial bump into one another) either?

I am not saying that Gush redo would have worked, but I mean I liekd the few scenes i saw with them as well lol.

I guess I am finding out I am the type of fan Fronzie Loves LOL.

Well you're not alone John. I liked the Gush 2.0 scenes too, lol.

People (understandably) don't like it when TPTB try to recaputre the "magic" that people had on other shows. I think they resent it and it's basically an uphill battle for the actors. But I'm open to it. I didn't mind the Jake/Taylor stuff. I actually thought the actors still had chemistry and I was willing to see where it would lead. IMO the problem with them was the writing... If they're going to try to "recapture" the magic, the writing better be damn good, and the characters better be strong, because people are going to be especially critical of the pairing.

Personally, I really don't have any strong feelings about who they pair Maxie with. I think Matt/Nadine would have been cute. Or actually, I really wish that Georgie was still alive and would have LOVED a Matt/Georgie romance. The sweet girl and the cocky doctor - he could have chased after Maxie only to realize that he was actually falling for Georgie. Awww...

Daisy Why do you have to go there and bring up Georgie? :( Now i am all sad again lol.

I would have LOVED Matt/Georgie/Maxie/Spin quad, i mean that would have just been perfect, but once again a 'good' storyline can't happen on GH, we have to kill off potential storylines and have more murder, because really who wants to see M/M/G/S quad when they can see Sonny/Jason and a gun Smile

I agree about the writing, I think if the WRITING was good we wouldn't really care to much about them trying to 'recapture' the magic.

I think if we just saw Jake and Taylor for Jake and Taylor and don't have the whole 'Oh they are some super couple from another soap, I don't see whats so SUPER about them other then their power to put me to SLEEP!' mentality then we would probably see more of a 'spark'. I think because I didnt' see Shelle 1.0. on DAYS and Gush 1.0. on GL i might have a different outlook, and seeing them for the 'first time' changes things, and I see the potential there.

I totally understand not wanting characters to be on 5 days a week and shoved down on us, but I would much rather have M&M scenes over Sonny and his wo/man of the week.

I have to agree about 7th Heaven to an extent. As cheesy as the writing was they did have some decent episodes. But that shit, I mean The Secret Life of Vapid Pretty "Teenagers", on ABC Fam is terrible!

I liked the first several years of 7th Heaven, but then I *was* a ten year old Preacher's Kid at the time it started.
