HomeTVNeighboursNeighbours Ratings Johnathon April 29, 2009 9 Comments Congratulations is in order for the Australian soap Neighbours. For the first time since July, 2007, the Channel Ten soap broke the one million viewer mark on Monday with 1,011,000 people tuning in, making it the 16th most watch show that night. While that may not seem like a lot of viewers in comparison to the U.S. soaps, this is really good for Neighbours and it goes to show that if you put money into your product and the product is actually good, people will watch. In contrast, Home and Away pulled in 1,195,000 viewers and came in 10th place for the night. 9 Responses myworld April 29, 2009 Hello Jonathan, I wanted to know is there a website I can go to to watch the British Soaps, I see clips on youtube, but I would love to see an entire show again. I love eastenders and corie and follow emerdale and would not mind seeing Home and Away and Neighbours I know they are Australian soaps but if i could view them too it would be good. While there are things I like about H&A, I like Neighbours even more myworld: It can be a pain trying to find full eps of shows, but it is possible. John is the GURU of this stuff, so I’m sure he’ll fill you in on where to go Log in to Reply Johnathon April 29, 2009 Lol, I know, I personally Love Home and Away more, but i think that is because it fits in with my ‘demographic’ a bit more, and the plots just interest me more. With that said I don’t think i could chose between the two shows, they are two completely different things and both amazing, its not like the USA soaps where everyone is copying everyone and they all suck lol, these bring two completely different styles of story telling together :). I saw it happen to Dutch soap GTST this year. Ratings went down, but TPTB worked on it. The quality of the soap improved and so did the ratings. Most of the time they have an average audience of 1.3 million. It was even more (about 1.5/1.6 million) during sweeps week. The sweeps week here was not like in the US. It had nothing to do with advertisers. The show just wanted to give the fans an exciting week where several storylines climaxed. Right now it’s a bit lower due to the warmer weather, but all shows have lower ratings right now. The market share percentage is about the same which means that less people are watching TV at that moment. I applaud GTST for what they did this year. Not only did they invest in their show, but they’re also listening to their fans. Fans have been asking for a regular gay character on the show for years (they’ve had lesbians and bisexuals). Lucas Sanders (member of a core family) will return from New York on June 30th and the character will be gay. Pretty much its about a group of people living on a street (Ramsey Street, named after one of the first families on the show, they are currently not on the show but some new kids from the family will be coming in July), it is about just normal people in ‘life’ situations with a soapy twist. I know that wasn’t the best pitch, but you know how All my children’s big storyline last year was the Tornado? well Neighbours had a few big storylines (everyone went out into a forest and one person died :( ) and the Season finale (Aus soaps work on a ‘season’ system, they are off the air from the end of November – Start of January) was a water rafting trip gone astray, no one died but one character lost his memory and has never quite been the same (Zeke). Anyways can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Log in to Reply sonyab1974 April 30, 2009 Check your Messages and i am glad you are interested in checking it out!
