DC #391: CBS and Days Some Form of Therapy
On today's CBS and Days of Our Lives episode of Daytime Confidential Luke, Mike and Melodie are joined by J Bernard in discussing the latest in As the World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light and The Young and the Restless storylines and news, including:
As the World Turns' new wonder twins haven't made a good first impression. Henry and Vienna's pregnancy storyline with Brad and Katie is falling flat. Craig manipulates Parker, is Rosanna behind it?
Mike is seeing glimmers of hope at The Bold and the Beautiful. Could it be making a turn around?
Tony died on Days of Our Lives, but Anna's didn't return in time. Luke can't help it, but he's enjoying Days of Our Lives more than all but two soaps.
The DC gang weighs in with first impressions of the new James Spaulding on Guiding Light. Dinah's punished herself for her crimes with a trial. How does the DC gang feel about Guiding Light's cancellation now that the news has had time to sink in.
Katherine finally has proof that she is who she claims to be and Jill is devastated on The Young and the Restless. Chloe and Billy get married at the Chancellor mansion while Katherine, Jill, Nikki and Esther get into a food fight. Luke shares a theory about a possible Sharon pregnancy from a long time friend. Jess Walton re-signs with the show.
All this and much more on today's show.
Note: This CBS episode covers the week of March 30 - April 3

I think the people fighting to save GL are mainly current viewers at least that is the impression I get from the boards etc.
That article you mentioned was about the dumbest thing I ever read. Did you not read the line where the journalist wrote that dozens of people would lose their jobs because of the cancellation of GL. Yes he wrote dozens!
I agree regarding the reva baby storyline, I sure wish that that wasn't what was showing immediately after the news of the cancellation broke out.
Bringing back the old sets for the last run will not hhappen and honestly I don't want it to happen, I am loving Gl they way it is now. Is it perfect? No, but no soap is.

I'm a current viewer...sort of. I should say I'm trying at the moment. I've not watched more than I've watched in the past two years. I've not made an effort to try and keep the show on the air. With the show as it is, having it be on the air is like pulling my tooth. It's my tooth, so I can't ignore it. It's painful though. Life seemed simplier before I came back for Otalia. Just watching Otalia clips was easy for me. I then picked up on the whole show again and even Otalia wasn't safe with St. Rapist poking in for a cameo or two. I then quit again and watched Otalia clips, ready to skip anything with St. Rapist. Bottom line for me is Jeffery ruined the show by the way he developed. He needs to be removed. I don't care if they brught back Bradley Cole as another character. They needed to start over with him if nothing else. Instead, St. Rapist spreads like a cancer. Maybe the show has been ruined for others by the way another character was developed. Maybe their feelings about cancellation is indifferent like mine. I pray if they move to Lifetime, that they bring Olivia along, but not St. Rapist. Dare I say it. That would be like having the cancellation for nothing. And maybe that is how I look at it and hope about it. Good can come out of the cancellation.
As for ATWT, I will not watch it. They killed off Jennifer like they did and Goutman is still there. That show can be cancelled and I wouldn't give a damn.
P.S. Example of stupidity on GL came today when we see Mallet and Jeffery walking their babies through the park. If that isn't a microcosum then of two idiotic things in a nutshell, then I don't know what is.

I caught 3 episodes of BB this week and agree the show is improving. Finally they are going back to their roots and fashion wars. Sally Spectra even got a mention. Hopefully we will continue to see more of this while the incestuous Rick/Steffy go on the backburner. Brad Bell is so obsessed with the Logans I'm not sure how long this will last though.

Luke - the image of Cane feeding off of his mother's "money"? Mike's ribald conversations about soaps seem to be rubbing off on you.

ON another note - I thought the discussion of the clothes on soaps was very interesting. I think you have hit the nail on the head that soaps used to have drama about the differences between the haves and haves not. It made for interesting drama.
Nola, Reva, Carly et al were all characters who were conflicted between love and money. Now that everyone has money the motivation is gone.
BUT those were in the days when people on soaps had jobs.
Last but not least, I only read positive comments on this blog so I am confused as to whom you are referring when you mention Luke-bashing. I really look forward to this podcast and I would never imagine voicing displeasure at the obvious amount of hard work that goes into its production. Thanks

Yeah let's get on with the Luke-bashing!
Just kidding, actually I agree with you pretty much all of the time, Luke. Even about Gloria
.
The clothes on soaps discussion was really interesting. I've never given it much thought before, but actually one of the things I enjoy about Y&R is that everyone's got such pretty clothes. Makes me jealous

Thanks for the podcast, but I'd just like to say that I am a life-long viewer of Guiding Light that is Fighting to Save the Light. To best of the my recollection I've watched GL for 32 of my 37 years. Have I always been thrilled with it, no...have I wanted to sling the t.v. out the window, yes...BUT I have never walked way - I've threatened to, but never could do it. I've stuck it out through gawd awful crap and just now feel like we've come out on the other side. Guiding Light is really SHINING right now, and I feel has so much life left in it. Guiding Light is not just a soap opera it is a family tradition. Guiding Light has been with me every stepping stone in my life, my first heart-break, finding love, marriage, the birth of my first baby, the loss of a loved one.
Life (reality) gets rough, and there has always been 1 constant that I could count on, and that was I could tune in day in and day out and lose myself in the happenings of the citizens of Springfield.
Are there "new" viewers fighting to save the Light, of course...but from what I've seen everywhere on the net there are ALOT of life-long viewers fighting for it as well.
The fan out-cry on this has been HUGE, and I believe will make a difference.
Long Live the Light!
Thanks again for the podcast!
