We're hearing from several sources that CBS Daytime Chief Barbara Bloom is gearing up to "fight like hell" to keep Guiding Light's biggest stars from ending up ABC, specifically Gina Tognoni.
We're hearing from several sources that CBS Daytime Chief Barbara Bloom is gearing up to "fight like hell" to keep Guiding Light's biggest stars from ending up ABC, specifically Gina Tognoni.
"Barbara is already doing whatever she can to pre-empt Guiding Light's more popular stars from leaving," says a source. "She's already talking to producers at the Bell soaps to see where she can fit in."
Word is Bloom is also desperate to keep recent ABC transplant Jeff Branson, as well as Daniel Cosgrove on her network.

hopefully P&G will shop GL around and find something so GT can stay as dinah but if she cant I dont think BB has any room to hold GT or any actor hostage. IF GL does end for good and GT wants to return to OLTL then she should be able to.

I would rather see Guiding Light survive in some other form (reduction to half-hour, SoapNet original broadcast, switch to another network) than be allowed to die (since technically CBS cancelled it, but TeleNext produces it and can still try to air it elsewhere). With that said, if they want to keep some of these good GL actors, maybe it's time to recast them on the rest of their soaps? I wouldn't mind seeing Gina Tognoni as a recast "Victoria Newman" (and before people say she's too old, she is only 2 years older than Heather Tom and 8 months YOUNGER than Amelia Heinle!) and get some life back into that character. Maybe bring Jeff Branson along as a recast JT Hellstrom?
Wow... I am still surprised this actually happened. I thought for sure GL had another year left to turn things around.

If Heather Tom does not return to the role, I agree with DanMan869, Gina Tognoni would be great as Victoria Newman. Even with weak writing, Gina could definitely imbue Victoria with the fire that has been lacking in this character since Heather left the role.

Fascinating. Read between the lines here, folks. Notice that there isn't a mention at all of ATWT being an option? That implies to me that ATWT's fate already seems decided come 2010.
Now, can Jamey or someone please clarify for me exactly *who* the actors' contracts are with? I assume from above that they are with CBS, versus P & G?

I think Gina would be awesome as Victoria. I don't know if she'd want to though. Since Heather Tom was already cast in a role Gina created I could see Tognoni being concerned about sending the message that the 2 are interchangeable.
Bloom has just lost an awesome soap from her line up she should be less concerned about how ABC might benefit from that and more focused on doing everything she can to help the 3 soaps she still has.
It's damned unlikely but I'd love for GL to now sky rocket in the ratings, get picked up elsewhere and kick CBS' sorry ass.

Oh yeah, she could be a great recast as Victoria Newman, when Heather Tom doesn't get out of the prison next to the Y&R set.
Amelia Heinle doesn't seem to work these days anyway. It's like Victoria has become the Lauren for the Newman family. Not to mention that hubby of hers.
But ... the best thing would be if GL could be on air - somewhere!

I agree with everyone else, If they care so much about these actors maybe they should've fought a little harder for GL to stay on CBS.

Why stand in their way? These actors all just got their pink slips....they should take a job wherever they damn well please.
I am so frustrated that this (GL being axed) has happened.....this is a lot more than cost cutting and about ratings. It just sucks that so much bullsh*t is going on behind the scenes (nothing new though, is it?) and it gets GL gone.
I think this is such a big mistake and definitely not good for any other soap.

Well, I guess the actors have to take the best offers they get. Where could GL go that will allot them the money to sign the actors? Either Frons or Bloom will probably get their meat. Why? NBC or possibly on some planet Fox would have to pick up GL to make GL's current actors all affordable. NBC doesn't want to be in the soap business and Fox never has tried, so I think Bloom and Frons will rip GL apart, probably to a point where cable or internet airing will not go over well due to all new actors.

Why even bother try to keep them at CBS when you just kicked their wonderful show to the curb? CBS doesn't DESERVE to keep them. The problem w/GL IMO is the cheesy background music. But story and acting wise, it's way better than GH, AMC, B&B, or Days.

I SO wanted her to take the Carly # 4 role. Love Laura Wright but I think I would have enjoyed Gina's Carly much more. I liked her as Kelly too so it would be nice to see her return to ABC.
P.S. Sorry GL fans. This completely and totally sucks. I hope another network picks up your show.

You've got to be kidding me. Bloom can try to put GL's actors on the other CBS shows but it will be a cold day in hades before I turn on another CBS show after what they've done to GL. September 18, 2009 at 11:00am WCBS will cease to exist on any television in my household. And, starting today I will not watch Y&R, B&B or ATWT. CBS and Bloom can take that and smoke it!

I'm on board w/a Victoria recast. Where has she BEEN anyway?! G.T. could also bring depth to a Heather redux as well. Don't know many GL actors as I never tuned in, but Dan Cosgrove would be great on Y&R too...Just keept these great actors away from Port Chuck and Pine Lavery.....That would kill me.

Heifer is the perfect description for Barbara Bloom, so now she fights like hell to keep Gina, Brian , and Crystal on Bell shows as if these folks want to travel 3000 miles to California just to be on the "Bell shows" and have nothing to do. These actors where perfectly fine where they were personally as a fan of GL I won't be watching any CBS Daytime again after this debacle and I will follow Gina,(Dinah) Brian, (Bill),Crystal (Olivia) and the rest of GL's top notch actors wherever they go and boy do I hope they go to ABC shows. Go to heck Ms. Bloom you piece of crap! The Bell shows may be your crown and glory but you will soon find the 2 million or so of us that watched GL will be quick to follow our favorites wherever they go. You loser!
