Sherri Saum on In Treatment

I was watching my HBO guilty pleasure - The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - and at the beginning of tonight's episode there was a promo for In Treatment. I don't watch In Treatment, but the promo caught my attention because I spotted ex One Life to Live star Sherri Saum.

You know how, when you see a celebrity or star and it immediately revives a memory of their past role or performance? Even after all these years, the first thing I thought when I spotted Saum was "Turkey Baster Storyline" on Sunset Beach. Do you watch In Treatment? If so, I'd love to know if you enjoy the show so I can decide if I want to watch it or not.

I tried finding a You Tube clip of the Turkey Baster storyline, but couldn't. Maybe someone will upload on at some point. Why is it that clips like the Turkey Baster or the clip of Charity Rahmer and Drake Hogestyn's inappropriate chemistry as Belle and John Black on Days of Our Lives don't end up on You Tube?

I love In Treatment. It's absolutely captivating. It almost becomes cathartic at times when a patient reveals a possible source of their issue. I've already gotten chills from watching the girl with cancer. Last season, I was also riveted by some performances. One of which was this girl named Sophie, who tried to kill herself twice (one time during a session). The other great performance involved Blair Underwood's character, with the triangle between his character, another patient, and the therapist, along with his character eventually crashing his plane and possibly committing suicide (his family is suing the therapist this season). Alex (Blair's character) was arrogant and completely rude, but you could also feel for him, because he was a Navy pilot that dropped a bomb on a school in Iraq and couldn't really deal with it. He also may of been a closet homosexual.

I consider this show soap opera-esque. First, it's a five episode a week show, but more importantly, it is all about characters, which is why I love soaps (I don't really care for over-the-top stories that go with soaps, because I think that takes away from the character building aspect).

Also, last season, Michelle Forbes was on In Treatment. She played Sonni/Solita on GL. I didn't watch GL then, but hear she was a very popular character(Drunk. She's been on once so far this year as her character got a divorce from Gabriel Byrne's character and his character moved from Maryland to Brooklyn. He still goes to Maryland to visit his therapist to talk about his problems, which mostly involves his patients.

I'd recommend this show.

The series in based on an Israeli drama series going by the same name & airing format - even the same characters & story lines (with minimal adjustments for the American version).
