I’m also really happy about Maura West and Julie Pinson. I was surprised about the drama series nominees though. I only watch ATWT, so I can’t really say if a show deserves it or not, but I only hear good things from The Young and the Restless. I expected them to be nominated. Log in to Reply sudsmuffin May 14, 2009 B & B as best drama? Seriously? Who’s palm did Brad Bell have to grease to get that nom? I am very pleased to see Van, Maura, Julie, Susan Haskell, and Bradford A. on the list. Peter Reckell? God bless him, but no. Log in to Reply babyc May 14, 2009 AMC and B&B for best drama? Seriously? What a disaster. Log in to Reply Columbus May 14, 2009 What time period does this cover? Surely before Crystal Chappell’s graveyard confession. Log in to Reply TV Gord May 14, 2009 I’ve watched AMC since 1979 and stopped watching a few months ago because it has become a joke; with characters acting out of character to the point where they aren’t recognizable anymore. I can’t believe how awful the other soaps have to be for AMC to get a nomination for outstanding drama series! I’m happiest for Bree Williamson. She did some amazing work this year, despite the admittedly over-the-top multiple-personality baby-switch storyline. I hope she goes all the way. Log in to Reply goyankees May 14, 2009 I have plenty to say, but I’ll only say this. (I’m a Y&R Snob) I’m actually glad the Best Show (Y/R)isn’t mentioned along with the ridiculous All My Children. I actually thought this was a joke?? I’m suprised the baffoonish GH didn’t get the Best Drama Nod as well. I’m sorry I won’t be tuning in to watch Jeanne Cooper and Christian LeBlanc get their awards. I’m udderly dumbfounded. DAYS is ridiculous and fires their vets. Now they get rewarded? In a shrinking genre that has one show CONSTANTLY atop the ratings, it doesn’t get the Top Nod?? WHA!??? I’m utterly disgusted. I’m sure Cameron Matheson’s eyeballs exploded even more this morning. Log in to Reply VeryCleanIndeed May 14, 2009 Seriously? Minshew? I don’t think it was her best year but after rooting for her for roughly six years, I’ll take it. Log in to Reply timepass May 14, 2009 Those nominations are hilarious, and proved without a doubt, that it is crapola. Not having Y&R as best drama is the proof in the pudding! I am not even will watch or read about it! Seriously! Log in to Reply McD720 May 14, 2009 These noms are an utter farce. Perfectly illustrated by the nominees for outstanding drama. I am laughing at those… the three most universally panned shows for the past year get the nods and Y&R and One Life get ignored. WOW! I won’t be watching but will root for Jeanne and Christian. But I am happy for Daniel Cosgrove and Bradford Anderson as well. And Tony Geary again? Whatever… Log in to Reply Jack661 May 14, 2009 I cringed when I saw Tony Geary on the list yet again.. here we go again. And AMC?? Just goes to show what a joke it is that you can win an Emmy based on 2 episodes and the rest of the year could be crap material. As for TG, half the year he’s gone and he hasn’t been producing Emmy-worthy material in years… his passion for acting has diminished and it shows up on screen. Log in to Reply JJ2009 May 14, 2009 About time Peter Reckell has been nominated…long overdue. He should have been nominate early in his career (Roman’s death in BO’s arms). He should have been nominated with the revelation of Victor as his father….with Hope’s first death. And BOTH Peter and Kristian should have been nominated for so many scenes in Zach’s death. Sadly, actors have been unfairly punished because of the system, the bad reputations of their inconsistent writers. I so happy for Peter Reckell. Log in to Reply gush900 May 14, 2009 The nominee’s for best show am i dreaming.Hello where’s y/r and oltl seriously what a travesty.I would’ve replaced amc and b&b with y/r and oltl Log in to Reply rocki345 May 14, 2009 All My Childern and B&B…….Best drama..really? Wow Have to say this too, Cyrstal Chappell and Marcy Rylan were robbed…but thats my own opinion. Log in to Reply gllover May 14, 2009 Marcy Rylan got robbed!!!! Log in to Reply south May 14, 2009 Where is Crystal Chappell? That is a travesty! No other way to put it! Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 May 14, 2009 Yea GL was snubbed probably due to the production model and the fact that most voters dont really watch the tapes. What I want to know is that sense I dont watch B&B what did they do last year and Days also? I watch Days but It tends to all run together, if anything they should of been nominated for that plane crash they had but I dont think that was last year. Log in to Reply lene91 May 14, 2009 Arianne Zuker should have been nominated instead of Tamara. but anyways, GO DAYS OF OUR LIVES!!!!!! yaaaaay Log in to Reply troymcclure May 14, 2009 I’m so happy for Daniel Cosgrove!!! Good for Jeff Branson, he is a great actor. Marcy Rylan did get robbed but then again she is always snubbed so I wasn’t surprised. Gina Tognoni was majorly robbed. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 14, 2009 I said nothing could shock me. I was wrong. DAYS, B&B, and AMC nominated for Best Daytime Drama. Un-Be-Lievable. We are all wasting our time. I am kind of happy that GH didn’t got it maybe it will do something to TPTB But I still don’t get it that Anthony Geary got it?????????????????????? i think Laura wirght should have got it Log in to Reply Simple C May 14, 2009 Eh. I can see why AMC and B&B were nominated for best show. AMC had the Jesse&Angie wedding with everything else surrounding it. B&B had the story about Storm killing himself so his sister could have his heart. I thought that was one of the most dramatic and emotional stories of the year. Log in to Reply elvara May 14, 2009 I’m happy for Daniel Cosgrove and Jeff Branson. I was expecting a total shut out. GL was god awful last year. The writing, production, everything was bad. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 May 14, 2009 THAT’S A JOKE …. RIGHT!?!?!? |( B&B and AMC best Drama? Seriously? How much money did they pay to get nominated? Adrienne Frantz and Michael Graziadei were robbed!!! Happy for Jeanne Cooper, Bradford Anderson and Bree Williamson. The rest is just a bad joke to me. Log in to Reply blake3b May 14, 2009 These are the weirdest nominees I have seen in a longggggg time! Where to start? Amc, Days AND B&B for best show?? WTF? I could understand OLTL for last year (not this year!) and Y&R, but these three???? Again, WTF???? Peter Reckell? (I could see Kristen Alfonso before him!) Alicia Minshew? Thorsten Kaye? Tony Greary? Where are Crystal Chappell, Gina Tognoni, Marcy Rylan? Congrats to Daniel, Jeff, Jeanne and Christian. BTW, how did Vincent Irizzary make the list? Didn’t he return to the show at the beginning of the year? Log in to Reply KingTV May 14, 2009 This is an unbelievable JOKE! Are we in the Twilight Zone? How the F!!? did B&B, AMC and DOOL become only 3 nomin ated shows. Did OLTL and Y&R cancel themselves out because of their genius quality compared. Did the voters think it was unfair to jude 2 amazing shows with the rest of the crap on air??? F-ING BS! I AM NOT WATCHING THOS YEAR’S TELECAST. THESE AWARDS ARE ENTIRELY MEANINGLESS AND OBVIOUSLY CORDAY, FRONS AND B. BELL HAVE PAID THE JUDGES OFF TO GET THEIR DISGUSTINGLY POOR QUALITY, HORRIBLY WRITTEN SHOWS THE ONLY SHOWS NOMINATED. SINCE WHEN DO THEY ONLY NOM 3 SHOWS INSTEAD OF 5. WTF IS GOING ON IN SOAP LAND. I AM NOW FULLY CONVINCED THAT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY IS WORKING TOGETHER TO DESTROY THE GENRE, RETIRE AND ALL OF THE EXECS CAN MOVE TO PALM SPRINGS, CA., FLORIDA OR WHEREVER THEY WANT TO LIVE OU THE REST OF THEIR LIVES OFF OF THE CASH THEY BANKROLLED FROM THESE SHOWS YEARS AGO. THIS IS THE END OF DAYTIME. I PREDICT THAT ALL SHOWS WILL BE GONE IN LESS THEN 5 YEARS. HOW THE HELL WERE Y&R AND OLTL IGNORED IN BEST DRAMA SHOW? I AM SCHVITZING, HOLDING IN SCREAMS IN MY OFFICE AND ME AND MY ASSISTANT, ANOTHER BIG SOAP FAN, ARE SITTING HERE IN SHOCK AND AWE AT THE AUDACITY OF THE DAYTIME ACADEMY’S IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY AND FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THE GOOD FROM THE BAD FROM THE JUST PLAIN UGLY (DOOL I AM STARING RIGHT AT YOU AS WELL AS AMC AND B&B WHO HAD THEIR WORST YEARS CREATIVELY IN A LONG, LONG TIME. I AM THOROUGHLY SHOCKED AND LIKE I MENTIONED, BOYCOTTING THE AWARDS AND I DEMAND AN ANSWER TO HOW THE F THIS MESS HAPPENED. EVEN GL DESERVED A NOM OVER THE CRAPTOCITY THAT IS DOOL THIS PAST YEAR. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND BEFORE I HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOPWN. I AM AN ASSOCIATE EDITOR AT A PRETTY LARGE PUBLICATION COMPANY WHOSE JOB IT IS TO READ MANUSCRIPTS BY VERY WELL-KNOWN TO TOTALLY UNKNOWN WRITERS AND HAND THEM OFF TO MY BOSS FOR A PUBLISHING GREENLIGHT. I KNOW GOOD WRITING EVEN IF NOVEL FICTION/NON-FICTION WRITING IS A DIFFERENT GENRE THEN SOAP OPERAS BUT ULTIMATELY THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME IDEA OF INHABITING A WORLD, DIVING DEEP IN TO CHARACTER MOTIVATION, PSYCHOLOGY AND TELLING MULTI-LAYERED, TEXTURED STORIES WITHIN THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE THE AUTHOR HAS CREATED. I THINK OF SOAP OPERAS AS GOOD CHARLES DICKENS NOVELS THAT ORIGINALLY APPEARED AS SERIALIZED PORTIONS IN THE MAGAZINES AND PAPERS OFN THE TIMES. TO ME, HE WAS THE FOREFOUNDER OF THE CONTINUING STORY AS WE KNOW IT TODAY. I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT I AM SURE MANY OF YOU ARE FEELING AS FLABBERGASTED, GASLIGHTED (ADAM?), AND ANGRILY INCENSED AS I AM BUT WHEN I THINK ABOUT THE ENTIRE NOMINATING PROCESS THAT THE DAYTIME EMMYS ARE FORCED TO RECKON WITH INSTEAD OF A NORMAL VOTING BODY WOULD. EACH CATEGORY HAS GLARING OMISSIONS AS WELL AS GLARING MISTAKES A LA TONY GEARY FOR HIS 4 DAYS ON AIR, ALICIA MINSHEW FOR SPENDING 6 MONTHS IN A COMA AND NOT HAVING TO ACT MUST HAVE HELPED HER ENORMOUSLY. BREE WILLIAMSON FOR HER CAMPY, CARTOONISH CREATION OF A DID-SUFFERER. IN MY OPINION, THERE ARE ONLY 3 CORRECT NOMS, JEANNE COOPER, SUSAN HASKELL AND CHRISTIAN LEBLANC. THE REST ARE ALL DEBATABLE TO NOT EVEN DESERVING OF BEING IN THEIR CATEGORY. I CANNOT GO ON ANY LONGER. I HAVE REAL WRITING TO READ, EDIT AND HAVE A BUSINESS LUNCH WITH AN AUTHOR WHO JUST PUBLISHED A WELL-RECEIVED BOOK ABOUT HIS YOUTH GROWING UP IN THE HAMPTONS FEELING LIKE AN OUTSIDER. HE IS ALSO A MAJOR SOAP FAN AND I AM IMPATIENTLY WAITIN TILL 1:30PM TO MEET HIM AT THE RESTAURANT AND HEAR HIS REACTIONS TO THIS ENTIRE NIGHTMARE OF DENIAL AND SELF-SABATOGE. Log in to Reply kmacnjax May 14, 2009 No Crystal Chappell nomination???????? Absolutely ridiculous. She is better the Best Actress nominees, not to mention the Supporting Actresses. I wont be watching this year… Log in to Reply Vaidute1988 May 14, 2009 Where Becky Herbst, where she supose to be? Log in to Reply GossipGirl May 14, 2009 These are the worst list of nominees that I have ever seen! Some are deserving, but most are completely ridiculous! The three worst shows (IMO) of 2008 are nominated! Where is OLTL and Y&R?? And what is with the slew of AMC nominations?? This show is the worst on air and the acting isn’t all that great either! I could go on and on, but why bother! This is a joke! Log in to Reply Nathang1983 May 14, 2009 I totally agree about Days. I’ve been watching it ever since I can remember, which would be since like 1988 (I remember the Kayla going deaf storyline). But, I can’t for the life of me figure out why they were nominated for an Emmy for Best Daytime Drama. What a joke. Of all the years that it would finally get nominated, it had to be for 2008, one of the suckiest years ever. Oh well, maybe they were nominated for the plane crash like somebody wrote earlier. I also think Arianne Zucker should have gotten a nod. She was great late last year as a distraught psycho! Log in to Reply Smitty May 14, 2009 I am just going to sit back and wait for the special podcast because there is so many things I could say about these nominations but in an effort to be positive I will say GO JEANNE COOPER!!! You deserve it! Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 14, 2009 Supporting Actress is the biggest joke of ALL! No Chappell, no Brier, no Hennessy? Log in to Reply Regan Cellura May 14, 2009 @ Jamey… but we have Minshew the only supporting actress disguised as a lead! Log in to Reply shmotis May 14, 2009 How can Alicia Mishew be considered SUPPORTING? Her only breaks have been when she is in a coma Log in to Reply blake3b May 14, 2009 It is true that Laura Wright always gets snubbed. She has deserved to be nominated many times. Especially for 2002 when on Guiding Light when Reva pulled the plug on Richard, Laura and Kim were on fire!!! Log in to Reply daisyclover1938 May 14, 2009 Just wish someone had sent the thousands of voters a memo that Tony Geary is NOT a Leading Man and hasn’t given an award worthy performance in years. Yeah, his scenes with Genie Francis were really nice, but c’mon!! And what, are they going to bring Genie back for a month every two years, just to ensure Tony gets a nomination? Spare me, please! Log in to Reply tennisbaw May 14, 2009 AMC, B&B & Days for Outstanding Drama Series…Seriously?! In all of my years of watching soaps that might take the cake! I could dissect almost all of the catagories, but I have to especially echo the above sentiments regarding the Supporting Actress catagory… Log in to Reply DaytimeFan0001 May 14, 2009 I don’t even have the time to look at this list and or comment but I just saw the name EJ Bonnila……THE WORST actor to ever grace Guiding Light. ARE THEY JOKEING? Log in to Reply butahfly May 14, 2009 All I have to say is What in Lucifers Reach?!!!!!!!!!!! Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 14, 2009 This is why people don’t watch this mess. This is why ABC, CBS, etc, passed on airing them, because people don’t waste their time to tune in to see these awards be handed out. We talk a lot about TPTB, well this time, the ACTORS, WRITERS, etc. should be DAMN ashamed of themselves for voting the way they did. Log in to Reply dkellergrl2001 May 14, 2009 I’m just glad that ATWT didn’t get any nods in the Best Soap, Best Directing and Best Writing categories. What a relief. Nice to see nods towards Van and Maura (not shocked by that at all). Great to see Julie and Meredith nominated. I’m shocked by Crystal Chappell not being nominated at all. She’s done brilliant work with the Otalia storyline. Not shocked at all by Tony Geary being nominated AGAIN. He could fart and still get nominated. I’m excited about the future podcast on this topic. It’s going to be FUN. Log in to Reply appleofmyi May 14, 2009 Where is GL?? Last year it seemed like they won a bunch of Emmys. Now they only have 3 characters from GL listed! Log in to Reply daisyclover1938 May 14, 2009 dkellergrl2001, LOL! Best Fart by A (not really) Lead Actor: Tony Geary! Best Use of Genie Francis To Get Decent Emmy Reel Footage: Tony Geary, Julie Berman, GH! Log in to Reply RenewGLFF May 14, 2009 I really don’t care about the Daytime Emmy’s but it stinks they’ll have that big GL “tribute” with such a misrepresentation of the show. It’s like “let’s celebrate GL even though it isn’t here tonight” or at least not in the spotlight the way it’s been at the Emmy’s in the last 3 years, though it’s not the first time. I hope the show will have a new home by then, and who cares if they’re not eligible for lame Emmy’s anymore?! Log in to Reply Doobiekat May 14, 2009 This is the worst nomination list I have ever seen in my history of watching these awards…you have got to kidding me AMC & B&B and Days what about Y&R & OLTL hell even GH was better than those three shows. I was pleased to see Peter Reckell actually nominated WOW is that over due for sure. I don’t know why in the world Marcy Rylan was snubbed that really sucks. Not one lady from GL was noticed and that sucks. Oh well I guess Days will win best show cause out of that mess it probably was the better of the three nominees. Log in to Reply Dueler312 May 14, 2009 I can’t beleive that Kristen and Brandon didn’t get nomintaed. They have done terrific scenes this year. This is just WRONG! Log in to Reply snags May 14, 2009 All I have to say is WTF?!?!?!?! I’m a DAYS fan, watched it on and off for 25+ years, currently not watching. Why? Dena Higley and the firing of the everyone I loved on the show except for Bo and Hope. Anyway, in all the years I’ve followed the nominations and have been upset when they weren’t nominated when they should have. Well I have to say now when they have been nominated, I don’t think they deserved it. Glaring omissions in Series is Y&R and OTLT and I don’t even watch them regularly! I’ve always in my head (which means I’m probably wrong) correlated a nomination for Outstanding Series with noms for Writing and/or Directing, moreso with the Writing nom. To see GH and OTLT get noms in writing and NOT in Drama Series is VERY surprising because to me, the writing is a strong component to what makes a Series outstanding in the first place. Happy for Tamara Braun, love the actress and she was bat-sh*t crazy as Ava. Love Peter Reckell, but don’t think he had anything of substance to warrant a nom, same with Rachel Melvin and Darin Brooks. Blake has some stuff with his descent into madness for the hair model. But the best chance is with Tamara. I’m also happy for Julie Pinson and Debbi Morgan, both stellar actresses. Surprised GL didn’t have a stronger showing, at the very least Gina Tognoni, but she was absent. Too bad, cuz I love her too! But really, WTF? And who’s the host or hosts this year? Log in to Reply GH LOVER May 14, 2009 At least KS got the nomination !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Log in to Reply McD720 May 14, 2009 Just looked at the complete updated list… I am even more disgusted now then I was when it was just the short list. Y&R has an absolutely beautiful revival year and there isn’t even a nom for outstanding writing? Sickening. This is 100 times worst than last year. Disappointed about my guy Graz but he is in good company with getting snubbed. Why do we even bother? I will NOT be watching. Can’t wait to hear this podcast. Go after them HARD you guys! Log in to Reply troymcclure May 14, 2009 I’m happy for every nomination GL got…but EJ Bonilla? Really? He is a horrible actor and I can’t even immagine what he could’ve have submitted. Log in to Reply TV Gord May 14, 2009 I have to disagree with those who think Tony Geary should win for Fart Acting. Maurice Benard could fart rings around Geary! Log in to Reply luverica May 14, 2009 Ummm, is like The Young and the Restless being blackballed? No nomination for Best Drama, WRITING, and Directing. Am I reading this right? Are these people on crack? Even I, one of the longest All My Children viewers around, don’t think it deserves a nomination for best Drama and the last thing is Chucky Doll Pratt and Fat Boy Frons need is any sort of validation for the crrrrap they’ve been pulling. This is just horrific. Log in to Reply rocki345 May 14, 2009 B&B Nominated for best wrting!!!!!! Give me an… :insert curse word: BREAK!!!!!!!!! HEYYY RICCCK! jk Log in to Reply fusmom May 14, 2009 We now understand why the daytime industry is going down the tubes so to speak. When the worst of daytime tv’s dramas all get nominated at the same time for Best Drama, well it is only a matter of time before the genre is no more. I quit watching AMC years ago when the characters and plot lines no longer made sense. DOOL I haven’t watched in a decade or so and it is hard to give a daytime drama the nod when it gets rid of its main characters. B&B well that’s a joke. The Bells greased alot of palms for that nom. I am glad to see Bradford and Kristen get nominated for incredible work. Ric Hearst and Sebastian Roche deserved noms on the GH side. I was sorely disappointed the past 2 years when Sebastian Roche was past up for Supporting Actor nods for his sociopathic psycho portrayal of villian Jerry Jacks. I watch GH and OLTL and am quite surprised to see neither of them nominated for Best Drama. No nods to daytime’s GL even to honor it before it is cancelled is horrible. I know daytime is about budgets and cuts and whatever the daytime execs want and not the fan but Plllllleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeee don’t insult us any further. I usually attend the awards but not this year. Happy for Bradford and Kirsten Storms and Bree williamson…that’s about it. Where are brandon buddy and kristen alderson? I’d be embarrassed to be in the same company with 95% of the nominees listed. I hope the awards are on a beautiful summer night that I will enjoy time outside cuz lemme tell ya….You couldn’t PAY ME enough cash to watch this $hit. Log in to Reply DOOLJunkie May 14, 2009 I couldn’t be more relieved that Burnett didn’t make the list. Even if it appears to be a small issue compared to others’ reactions to the rest. I don’t watch any other soaps, so my knowledge is small. Although the fact that the number rated soap, which judges how the fans feel(for the most part), didn’t make the list in more of those categories is definately a travesty. And Days up for casting…HAHAHA. What a joke! Log in to Reply blake3b May 14, 2009 This will be the first daytime Emmys I will avoid watching. I’ll just read later who won. Lord knows who those people will be, I can see it now: Best Show: AMC Best Actor: Peter Reckell Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Mishew Best Supporting Actor: Bradford Anderson Best Younger Actor: EJ Bonilla B&B for best writing. AMC for best directing. No wonder the awards are on the CW this year! Log in to Reply TheLostMarler May 14, 2009 I have been following from work and thought that my computer was broken again when I read the Best Drama nominees… The acting nominees aren’t horrible with the odd miscue (Kristen Alderson, Billy Magnusson, Chrystal Chappell, Arianne Zucker, Peter Bergman). Can we just all be thankful that Ron Moss and Molly Burnett did not get nominated??? Now that I think of it, is there any way that they can present together just to watch the clusterf** of lines??? As for the rest, how could ATWT not get a Casting nod??? Their casting director works 20X more than any other director! Obviously this is the quantity over quality argument. Log in to Reply yrsoapfan1985 May 14, 2009 I’m kind of happy that my soap, Y&R, wasn’t nominated this year. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call to the new regime to get back to the vets, to great story-telling, great actors and wonderful drama…everything lacking this past year. But I have to say…B&B? AMC? Days? ARE YOU FREAKIN’ KIDDING ME???????????????? Log in to Reply soapfan99 May 14, 2009 hey, I’m a Days fanboy and even i’ll admit last year was pretty awful on DOOL. Although there were a few standout episodes – so maybe those were submitted? That being said, reading the meltdowns posted by the holier-than-thou soap oracles like #28 is priceless and more entertaining than most soaps on air. Log in to Reply Cherry860 May 14, 2009 Go Blake Berris! I believe Blake submitted his scenes in the hotel opposite Melanie when he talked about killing him and about how he was feeling. He definitely picked his best episode. Plus, looking at his competition, the only one that could beat him would be Bryton McClure. I think Best Younger Actress will be between Rachel and Kirsten. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 14, 2009 DAYS has deserved nods several times, but didn’t get them. Kristian Alfonso deserved nods for the dual role of Hope and Princess Gina. DAYS deserved best show the years they did the Devil Possession and Buried Alive, but the self-loathing snobs wouldn’t give them, or the devil her due then. Eileen deserved it for playing five roles, but she didn’t get it. Alison deserved it when Sami was on death row. Kristian and Peter deserved it when Zack died. Renee desered it when she lost Zack to Bo and Hope, but they were never recognized. Except for Blake and Rachel, the show doesn’t deserve squat now and the industry damn well knows it. These are pity nominations. Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 May 14, 2009 Did the GL female pre-nom tapes get lost in the mail? Has GL been blackballed due to its new production style? Luke, Jamey, anybody do you think the Emmy voters snubbed GL the most due to its new production style? Part of me is thinking that they didn’t want to give GL many nominations out of fear that their TBTB will want to use that type of production style as well to save on the budget. Log in to Reply dsrbroadway May 14, 2009 With a few minor exceptions, I call bullshit on the whole thing. Truly pitiful. Perhaps they shouldn’t have gone through all the work of trying to televise, because there’s not much worth watching. Honestly, Vanessa will probably the only reason I’m tuning in. Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 May 14, 2009 Pity nominations is what it needs to be called that and ABC and NBC block voting CBS just like CBS and NBC block voted ABC last year more proof that the process is a sham and needs to be fixed. Log in to Reply Oakdale-fan May 14, 2009 I’m happy for ATWT’s nominees: Maura, Julie, Van and Meredith! But I wonder what Katherine Kelly Lang has to do to get a nomination. Her work during Storm’s suicide was the best I’ve ever seen her do, and it should have been more than enough to get her nominated. William deVry should have gotten recognition too! If B&B submitted those episodes the nomination for Best Drama is understandable for me. It was daytime drama at it’s best. Log in to Reply TheLostMarler May 14, 2009 It pains me to say this (because I agree with you Jamey) but I think Days might actually win Best Drama… One sec, just threw up in my mouth a little… I think that Rachel Melvin and Tamara Braun might walk away with a trophy also. Log in to Reply Cherry860 May 14, 2009 I see Rachel and Blake taking trophies…Blake was outstanding before he left. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens May 14, 2009 I adore Tamara Braun. Seriously, it’s documented, but she does not deserve an Emmy for that role on Days. It was five minutes of nothing special. She deserved it a billion times on GH. It doesn’t matter if they don’t get it when they really deserve it. This is a major joke. Arianne Zucker I would have been proud to see on there with Rachel and Blake. Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 May 14, 2009 It looks to me like Days put her up on the pre nom list knowing she would be very likely to get a nomination and she did thanks to DAYS, AMC, and GH. I’ve always thought DAYS gets the shaft when it comes to the Emmys but that was back when they deserved recognition they dont deserve it for this mess they have on the air now. OMG they didnt get a writing nom did they? When is Dena Higleys deal with the devil gonna end?! Log in to Reply yrsoapfan1985 May 14, 2009 They just need to reform the whole process. Go back to the old way. Who cares if one show dominates….maybe that show is just BETTER! Life’s not fair! So, once they go back to the old way, the shows that don’t get nominated can just deal with it. How are the Primetime Emmys done? Maybe that’s the way. Log in to Reply Miry May 14, 2009 Now wait a MF’n minute! Freakin’ EJ Bonilla’s non acting ass got a nod and Brandy Buddy ain’t on da list!!! I call shenanigans! Now no doubt the boy mumbles sometime, but there is not one younger actor on soaps that can emote & cry like that boy… I mean, he even does the lip quiver. All I can say is: 1.) This thing is extra rigged (as we all well know). 2.) I want to know what the hell scenes these people submitted. I know that sometimes the actors can lose it for not submitting the right tape… I think they ALL need to have a poll on their official fan sites where they ask their fans to suggest to them what which tapes they should submit because this is just ridiculous. 3.) The Emmy’s continue to be a joke. I mean this is the WORST awards show… even the porn awards (is it a Woody?, heh) at least reward their TALENT and not their favorites. Log in to Reply GossipGirl May 14, 2009 Jamey, I understand what you mean about Tamara Braun, but she had about the same amount of air time on DOOL as Arianne Zucker did! For me she was the only reason to tune into DOOL in the beginning of 2008, while AZ was the star the second half of 2008. Actually, Tamara’s nomination doesn’t bug me like a lot of the others do. Yes, the storyline was terrible, but a lot of times I felt like she was the only one giving a performance. She should already have an Emmy anyway! Log in to Reply SoapOperaFanatic May 14, 2009 There are so many things wrong with these nominations. First of all who was this bitch that the Today show had on to make the announcements. Oh,I forgot. Someone from Entertainment Weekly!!!! What? There aren’t two FUCKING MAGAZINES dedicated to the genre and they have this bitch who can’t pronounce Thorsten or Alicia?? The Outstanding Daytime Drama Series nominations are a farce. Y&R and GL were the best shows this past year. I know that GL did not pick up speed until this year but at the very least it was better than the other shows nominated. Debbi Morgan for Outstanding Lead Actress??!! I must have missed the episodes that she was allowed to shine in. Same goes for Anthony Geary. The total waste of GH space that he is. AMC’s nominatiosn for show, writing, directing and costumes are crazy. The show is an utter disaster that has not been must see TV since Adam had Dixie in the looney bin. Now Pratt has the whole fucking cast in the looney bin and the best thing that shows wardrobe department could do is put paper bags over these actors heads after dry blocking and before taping because the shit lines they are feeding them are enough to make even the most green actor embarassed. Picking between some of these nominees is quite like picking between which prostitutes you would like to sleep with depending on which STD they have. Congrats to Jeanne Cooper, Julie Pinson and the other few deserving nominees. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 May 14, 2009 Tony needs to retire, ASAP. Log in to Reply italianoj77 May 14, 2009 Re: the daytime nominations, who nominates in each category? As in GH writing? Is there a committee that nominates the writers? None of this makes any sense. Anyone?? Help me try to understand. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 May 14, 2009 Debbie Morgan better win Best actress, I be ok with Susan Haskell or Jeanne Cooper winning too. Log in to Reply eriklovessoaps May 14, 2009 No Bradley Cole or Ronn Moss? Now there’s snubs. Oh, I think I missed the purpose of the awards. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t watch much soap opera anymore. I guess I don’t know who should win or not win for that matter. I know there is snubs in all awards shows. I know and like some of these actors. From the two shows I pay attention to, I surely didn’t expect much from GL with the 2008 calandar year. I couldn’t bare watching the rapist-hero of the show save his victim by marrying her and gave up awhile, so I missed alot. From watching YouTube clips though and knowing the prenoms, how did Crystal Chappell not get nominated for that scene where Olivia said goodbye to Gus, or did she not choose that and chose something like Olivia marrying her rapist? In that case, I can see why no one liked that enough for nomination. Other than Crystal from GL, I think there was nothing worth mentioning. The other show I watched is OLTL. I’m trying to remember what was included in last year. Surely no one thinks that time travel story was worth much. I think Nora’s speech to Todd after he got off for rape was in 2009. I don’t particularly think Kirsten Aidenson is that good, but probably is good enough. I don’t expect the awards to be a cheerful event in the end, because of the product that is coming out. When those idiots on Today think Susan Lucci has ever been a good actress, just because people liked the coverage of her getting nominated 10 times in a row and didn’t win, because it only made a good story, you know the industry is in chambles. The only thing the industry has now is Brian Frons controlling it, so I think it makes sense Cosgrove and Branson were the GL nominees. If nothing else, this shows he peddled his influence on the actors that want in for future employment. I’m not saying Cosgove didn’t deserve an Emmy nom, but he’s got to be wanted pretty bad by Frons. The fact Tongoni and Chappell didn’t get noms too could be because Frons’ influence only goes so far and appearently, it only goes as far as placing pieces in place for the show that makeg it as boring as possible. In that case, good job Frons! That dud is the greese that makes the wheel of daytime turn and given Bloom doesn’t care anymore, he is by himself. Again, we can’t expect much here. John’s brans on a disc, emmy gold! That’s why people hate and make fun of soaps, because of shit like this. That’s the only beef I have with the nominations, the acting nods I’m okay with. Crossing my fingers that Kristen Storms wins. And ya for Julie Pinson and Tamara Braun. I’m scratching my head about Peter Reckell though, seriously. Log in to Reply Daniella1030 May 15, 2009 I wanna say this now, Bryton McClure is one of the least deserving of a nom, because he didn’t have a good story. The one scene that was big for him is when he was telling Ana about how just because Tyra didn’t give birth to her, she was still her mother. He basically expanded one sentence into a five minute monologue. It was so boring, I just thought to myself, “this is lame, this won’t get him nominated” But I was wrong. He gets it every year! Either he is the best young actor ever, or the academy is putting him in so they can have a black actor on the ballot and Victoria Rowell can tone down playing the race card. I don’t wanna sound racist but, let’s be honest, if they’re only doing for that purpose, than leave Bryton out and stick w/ Cornelius Smith Jr, he is a fresh face and is getting more acclaim than Bryton did. That wasted nomination could have gone to Brandon Buddy or Billy Magnussen. Log in to Reply GiJoe8 May 15, 2009 I understand people are pissed off BUT PLEASE you have to support the daytime emmys and watch them! the networks passed because they are trying to ditch the genre. I must say Im very pleased with Debbi Morgans nomination and Thorsten Kayes but thats about it. Debbi was stellar in the jessie returning and the wedding episodes. Thorsten has held his own against bullshit story after bullshit story- but his breakdown for Myrtle was emmy worthy. I for one will be eating pizza and getting drunk that night. These noms do seem to be bogus. I also wonder what time frame they are dealing with. Do they work off the calendar year or some other timeframe? This is the strangest list of noms for Outstanding Drama I have ever seen. Makes you wonder what the strategy is for this!?!?! I am sure the whole genre is on pins and needles to see who is next to get the AX! I am sure there are AMC fans out there, but I can tell you I take GL’s new production model over AMC’s any day! The AMC sets and lighting are so fake! Even their sound is weird. Sorry AMC fans, but I would rather watch real outdoor scenes of it snowing or raining than the same old studio sets anyday. Maybe I have gotten used to GL’s new model, but I have decided I like it. I loved the scenes with it really snowing in the background. I love the real cemetary! I love YR, but their cemetary scenes when Brad died were just to “indoor”!! The lake where he froze to death…too indoor studio!!! I really like the outdoor scenes. They are a nice change of scenery…hahah! Could they make some improvements? Of course!!! Did they get snubbed for this years Emmy’s? Of course! Are we mad? Of course! What about the actors who got snubbed? I bet they are really peeved! If GL doesn’t get picked up those actors have lost an opportunity to go for new jobs with an Emmy tucked under their arm! That’s sad! Log in to Reply ad-girl May 16, 2009 They need to reform the EMMY process. I don’t really care if individual actors are overlooked the best shows are not being nominated and that’s a problem. Also, why do we need this pre-nom garbage. If AMC, for example, has the 5 best supporting actress in daytime of if ATWT has the three best leading actors in daytime, why shouldn’t they be allowed to dominate? The primetime Emmy votes are free to give multiple nods to the women of Housewives or the men on Lost. Nothing wrong with that all. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 May 17, 2009 Y&R didn’t get best show because they pick the Paris, France stuff and the judges didn’t get the drama out of it. Log in to Reply appleridge May 17, 2009 According to Michael Bruno who was interviewed on Brandon’s Buzz at blotalk radio and also judged drama series this year, the soaps submitted the following episodes AMC: The Tornado ATWT: Valentines 2008 which showed what happened if couples weren’t together B&B: Storm’s suicide Days: The Plane crash and Shawn Brady’s death GH: Ian shoots Michael GL: Reva’s movie where they recreate Reva and Josh’s first wedding OLTL: Who Wants To Be Shane Marasco’s Father?
