Y&R's Clementine Ford to Access Hollywood: "I Was Just Kinda Living My Life"

The Young and the Restless
star Clementine Ford gave a refreshing interview with Access Hollywood about her coming out process, her stint on The L Word and why she wanted to do a soap. You know, Ford is definitely taking some time to gel in the role of Mackenzie "Mac" Browning, but seeing how natural she is in interviews makes me want to give her a little more time. I know, I know, I ripped her recently on the podcast, but there's something about Ford that makes me want to see her succeed in the part. I've seen more than one soap superstar take years to grow into their roles—a couple who became Y&R superstars—so I will continue to hold off on the emergency Wishful Re-Casting of Mac for the time being. Let's just hope Ford can figure out a way to infuse her performance with some of her easygoing real life personality.

I agree and I think she's actually getting better or at least I think she has pretty good chemistry with Raul more so than with Billy maybe she just needs more time to make the character her own.

She's actually getting better. She doesn't seem bored anymore and the ghetto clip on hair pieces are gone. She looks much better in a ponytail then the mane look she had going on.

I see what you mean Jamey, Clementine has a lot of personality without being obnoxious and that is such a good quality, I just wish she could infuse Mac with some of her personality because Mac is as dull as dishwater and I don't see how Billy or Raul would be inlove with her as she is now. But at least with Billy we could argue that he is still holding on to his memory of Mac as played by Ashley Bashioum and is not inlove with Mac as she is now.

Clementine has been good the past week or so as Mac. She seems to have finally found her footing. So maybe the actresses' reel i emailed u Jamey could be used as a wishful casting for Heather.

I've always found her to be a pretty engaging person which is why her start on Y&R was such a tremendous disappointment, since she'd brought that to her role as Molly on The L Word.

That said, I think she's improved recently--she has genuine chemistry with Raul and flashes of chemistry with Kevin (hopefully they'll play up their friendship more). It's made me a tad hopeful that she'll start to spark more with Billy Miller and build more of a rapport with Katherine.

She does look so much better with her hair in a ponytail.

I think she is slowly settling in. I definitely see some glimmers of hope.

She is improving on a daily basis. I would prefer to let her grow into the role, then have a recast. I am proud to have an "out" and proud actor in this role. What a step forward in the right direction for daytime.

Billy Miller hit the ground running, and it is almost impossible to find someone who can do as well as he did right off the bat.

I find her to be sweet, and I wish the fans would give her a real chance to find her footing. I could not imagine playing against Jeanne and Billy on a daily basis. They set the bar pretty high for any actor, especially one new to daytime.

Clementine is getting better but she is not quite there yet. I would still jump at the chance to get the original Mac back!

I agree with eightiesattic. I do see improvement from her recently especially since the return of Raul, but she is still growing into the role. Actually I like the friendly chemistry she has with Chloe as well. It can't be easy going from a primetime show to daytime because of the pace of which it moves. Billy Miller is abnormal! LOL! The first scene of him as Billy was so natural, like he had played this character for years. That is very rare and most actors need more time to get settled into the daytime world.

Watching this video, she does seem very comfortable on camera and hopefully her personality and the ease she displays in interviews will infuse into her portrayal of Mac. But for now, I'm still willing to give her more time.

She still drives me bonkers watching her. (All along I felt that she played this role as "wooden") yesterday when Raul told her he had gotten promoted, she smiled so huge. I was STUNNED at how much she looked like her mom when she smiled.

I think that was the first SMILE "Mac" has shown us. Maybe THAT is what's so shocking. Her working alongside Elizabeth Hendrickson, I can't help but compare the 2 actresses. Clementine REALLY needs to step it up.....I will agree Raul has STARTED bringing out another side of the character & her portrayer.

Storyline Sidenote: The Snorefest honeymoon that is Lily and Cane, they've commented on how "Mac is taking care of things at the bar back home....."

UM. By sitting at the POOL all day?? HA!

I agree with everyone that says Clementine has shown some potential. I think she has really good chemistry with Raul. They played well off each other. I think she is improving, slowly but like Jamey said it takes some people time and who knows she could become a superstar. Probably not LOL

Get rid of the Mac obsession with Billy and maybe I be ok with her because there isn't any chemistry between CF and BM. Let them be friends again and nothing more.

From the beginning I never thought that Clem was a bad actress it just felt that she was choosing to play the character of Mac as this straight laced woman and infused absolutely no personality in her performance. I don't think it's her acting that's the problem but the choices that she's making in the role.

Clementine Ford and Billy Miller - there are no sparks when those two or interacting and I wonder if that's on purpose b/c first of all, Mac is just fresh off her stint doing volunteer work in Darfur so she's making social adjustments to being back in GC against all that; second, it's been quite a few years since she and Billy were involved/couple - and lots of things have happened, changed in each of their lives during that time (the dynamics between them has changed and not like it was when they were so "head over heels" in love - I guess and younger way back then). I can see this "change" reflected in Mac's eyes and even in her "stiff" performance when she's interacting with Billy. So she pulls that off very well. Now - here comes Raul and when Mac and Raul kissed, dare I say there were sparks and chemistry and for me, that "chemistry" broke through that 4th wall. I wonder too if that's done on purpose b/c Mac and Raul (Maul) were a couple while in Darfur and that sort of explains Mac and Raul's believability as a couple - that chemistry comes across. It could be also that David Lago "got game." That dude simply knows how to lay it down and bring it as an actor, pulling off of what seems the impossible and making us believe that he and Mac were a couple while in Darfur. I now want Mac and Raul to get married.

I just finished watching the Access interview and I agree very much with what CF said at about 4:53, as I believe a really good talented actor can make you "buy it" and that is a damn good actor. Clementine for the record "you go girl!" As for Chris Engen - what an opportunity for him to bring it and he chose to walk away. I am hot hatin on you - as I didn't want your character Adam and Yani Gellman's character Rafe to even go in that direction but still you could have made it worked and perhaps there could have been a compromise. I will truly miss you in the role of Adam Wilson.

Sorry, if she wasn't Cybil Sheperd's daughter, I don't think any tabloid tv show would be interested in her. I think that's why she got the job as Mac. There is no way she was screen tested for this role.

I think I could take her as Mac if the whole Chloe/Billy/Raul, etc storyline didn't hang on her and her character. That character is so dull and lifeless that it's hard for me to understand why Billy/Raul would even want this girl. I can't see Chloe being jealous or anything of this girl. I know a lot of "hair models" turn out to be great actress and characters but it's different now than it was in the 80's. In the 80's you could overact and stuff because that's how the 80's were. You can't do that now.

I didn't used to care for Raul back in the day, but I have to say I liked seeing him again. Reminded me of the better days when Brittany was still a character on the show.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I like Clementine Ford in the role and do think there is onscreen chemistry with Billy Miller. It has been quite subtle and likely purposely written/acted in this way.

CF, in my opinion, captures the essence of the "original" Mac, played by Ashley B. When AB came on board in 1999, I wondered how this reserved "Mac" character would evolve - she wasn't spunky, soft nor was she whimisical or very revealing. As the Billy/Mac storyline evolved, I grew to like the character. With Billy as the catalyst, her softer side was slowly unveiled.

I do think the writers have purposely written CF "Mac's" return in this way - at least I hope so - and the intent is to create a whole new chapter or version for "grown ups" Billy and Mac to fall in love all over again (I'm a BAC fan as you can tell and I do like EH as Chloe).

As much as I loved DT and AB, they're not coming back to Y&R - at least not AB who traded acting for med school.

BM's performances as Billy are spot on and see great potential with CF once the "ghosts of past" are dealt with, allowing the writers to give these two characters a fresh canvas to work from (based on the fact that they're not DT or AB playing teenagers) - I say let these two loose! CF will make Mac her own.

I really hope she succeeds in the role.
