GL Update: KDKA Quotes Wrong Leading Man

In the online article that went along with CBS Pittsburgh affiliate KDKA's coverage of a recent Guiding Light fan event, the reporter attributed quotes about Guiding Light's future prospects to Grant Aleksander. The statements were actually given by Robert Newman.

"Procter and Gamble is very much working toward the show going elsewhere, finding another form. It might be something on cable, I think there is a possibility with Lifetime, TV Land - so it may continue on - we will see," he said."

And you copied their information without checking the facts. If you listened to the video, you would've known who said what.

Uh, the link I was sent was from the online piece. Forgive me if I assumed that a CBS affiliate would have their facts right. When something is printed erroneously, you run a retraction, that's what I did. If you don't like how I do things, start your own blog. Seriously.

I applaud you for correcting this and being so open about the process. This is journalistic integrity, nothing less.
Thank you, Jamey.

Lord...

The point is, IT WAS SAID; And that is good news! Thank you Jamey, as always for your reporting.

Now, not knowing there is an "h" at the end of Pittsburg"h" is a different story! Smile :) Smile

Jamey..it's PITTSBURGH. I don't know how you could not get that right, since you were on KDKA's Web site.
Second, let's be realistic. This was not a mistake by a "reporter."
TV news stations don't have reporters working on Web sites. They usually have kids just out of college who are sent the information gathered by reporters, and they write text for it, format it and post it on the Web.
Trust me, I work in media, and I see mistakes ALL the time in the text for Web stories at TV stations. It's getting bad.
And I know who does what for the KDKA Web site. It's no surprise it's wrong.

I hope it's true! FYI -- "Pittsburgh" and "Procter" are misspelled.

I don't see what the big deal is, GA also noted at the event that they were trying to find a new home for the show as did Robert Newman.

What really matters at the end of the day is that these stars, longtime stars of the show would know what's going down and both of them told fans openly that the show is in talks to find itself a new home and then there was mention of some networks.

The are confirming what DC has been saying all along, there is still hope that GL will end up on another network. They were encouraging fans to keep supporting the show and keep being heard, that it was helping. But like any rumor or any type of talks, things only become official when Lifetime (or the network that gets them) and PGP/telenext make public statement that it's a done deal.

I predict that the rumors start to heat up in the next two weeks and that the statement is issued after the nominations for the daytime emmy's come out on May 14.

What do you mean you don't know how I could get it wrong??? Since you work in the media, as do I, then you know most publications have a full-time copy editor. We do not. We are a fan blog run by volunteers. I see mistakes in the New York Times all the time. I saw that it was Newman, not Aleksander, so I rushed to correct it, then ran out to get, lunch, pay my bills, and live my life, all while trying to at least tell GL fans the truth about what is going on, even when I am being discredited in magazines by reporters who get paid to do what they do. Again, I am doing this for love. We all are. If I make a mistake, copywise or storywise, when it is brought to my attention, I correct it.

Yeah I see that now, again, the "Proctor"  was a direct quote from the KDKA site. I don't think Tom Brokaw would have questioned copying and pasting from a CBS article about a CBS television program. Pittsburgh was simply a mistake on my part.It happens.  The video clip posted next to the article didn't have GL actors talking, so I sourced the online article, once I found out something was incorrect, I corrected it, and not in a small box on the side of the page—which most websites or magazines would do—I made an entirely separate blog post.

In any case, thanks Jamey for the update! It could very well be that GA also made the same statements as we know BC and TS, along with many other cast members, have been urging fans to fight for the show. I agree that at the end of the day, no matter who says what, we all want the same thing... to keep the Light shining for another 72 years!

Thanks Jamey, funny how people get all worked up over the wrong actor quoted or the misspelling of something simple as Pittsburgh. Jamey's right about the site not having a copy editor, that's how it is with most blog sites I thought everyone knew that!

GA did make the same statements at the event, and reportedly told people to expect an announcement soon. However, in the actually story, it was Newman. As for copy editing, we all peer edit each other, but this is the weekend and everyone else but me has an actual life, LOL. So no one was here to catch Pittsburg, er burgh. That one always effed me up as a kid!

The point is it was SAID - who the hell cares who said it. I sure don't...it makes no difference if RN or GA or Bugs Bunny said it - it was said.

Thank you Jamey and the rest of the DC staff for all the hard work that ya'll do for us, it is VERY much appreciated.

You know there are some real tools out here, the station made the error not Jamey. Then you have folks on other boards who are saying this is DC's fault when it is clear it was not.

Then the same person says now that it has been corrected that DC tried to pass this off as their story? Ugh the story on DC has always been quoted from the KDKA.

Then the same woman has the nerve to call someone out on being rude then gets praised for it a shame that is why I do not post over there that little click they have at the PGP site.

Hell if they listened and watched the damn video they would see that Brenda Walters called Grant "Phillip ALexzander", and there are people who actually blame DC.

THank you Jamey for reporting this.

I love how some people always want to take a positive and make it into a negative.

I read recaps from the event and yes, according to the recaps, almost all the actors and actress at the event said the same thing, about the show and how it might get picked up. Jeff Branson was very detailed about his feelings on CBS and a move to cable according to one of those who attended the event.

I think it's safe to say that we will know in the month of May if GL lives on. They stop filming in the CBS studios on July 31st, they film 6 weeks out.
Storylines that are moving and will continue would need to really be decided and known by June the latest.
Not to mention there are several key actors and actresses who's contracts end in June, the show will have to have reached out to them prior to that or they will most likely lose them to other shows.

There are several factors that have to be dealt with before any announcement is made, including the cast.

Jeez, people need to chill out.
I for one appreciate everything DC and Jamey are doing, and like Jamey said, start your own blog if this one doesn't tickle your pickle.

Also not only did we get a picture of GA but now we got one of our Joshua as well. How can that be bad? Smile

Like various posters has stated before, the importance of the article is what was said and not who said it!

Thanks so much for this update, Jamey. Both actors said something about finding a new home for GL, easy to get it confused a bit--no big deal--but the correction was very professional, none the less.

So many fans are waiting impatiently for word that Guiding Light has found a new home. Everyone, keep writing and supporting this brilliant show that has many years of life left. KEEP THE LIGHT SHINNING!!

I am just very happy that something positive is being reported. Errors happen in everything. The main thing is that the show is saved! Jamie has been wonderful in trying to keep us updated and I for one am very grateful. One of the latest things I was asked to do for GL is to e-mail USA today. They want to flood them with our support of the show. The address is: xxxxx@xxxxx.com

I guess I am not suppose to put an e-mail address in my comments. If anyone wants the e-mail address, go on Guiding Light Central Forum!
