Okay, I am literally shaking as I type this. One of my all time favorite actresses is returning to the role that made her famous, TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan is reporting the casting scoop of the year, Crystal Chappell is returning to Days of Our Lives as Katerina Von Leuschner, aka Doctor Carly Manning!

Not me! I sure didn’t expect this at all but it’s very exciting. I was in L.A. a couple of weeks ago and had some meetings set up to discuss the future. [Days exec producer] Gary Tomlin called and asked if I’d be interested in coming back. We had lunch and, a week or so later, we had a deal. My kids have been asking me for a year, “When are we gonna move back to California?” So they’re very excited. It’s the show where their mommy and daddy met. [Chappell is married to Michael Sabatino, who played Carly’s husband, Lawrence Alamain.]
I cannot lie, I am SO FREAKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW, because DAYS is the soap closest to my heart and Carly is one of the best heroines EVER, EVER, EVER, but in my opinion, this means any chance of a future for Guiding Light just got a lot slimmer... Gary Tomlin you have my respect!

I'm really excited too. I started watching Days religiously when Vivian buried Carly alive (watched since 1988 though, but 1993 is the first of storylines I remember vividly). It's great that they're actually bringing back an old character rather than some teen or young adult character.

Eh, I am beginning to see the writing on the wall for GL. If what the rumors say, that Otalia attracted cablers is true, it's even slimmer. So sad. I am holding out but I basically know and am coming to terms with the end of the Light.

I was thinking the same thing about Guiding Light. With Gina Tognoni and Crystal Chappell more than likely going on to "greener pastures" (depending on how you look at it), then that probably means that Guiding Light will not be picked up by another network. Time will tell though. Either way, other soaps can gain from Guiding Light leaving the airwaves by swiping up great actors.

Adore her. Adored her as Carly and stopped watching when she left years ago. Not sure with the 20something cast over there - she has a place on the landscape but I am willing to watch to see how it plays out.

As opposed to no story for Bo and Hope? Listen I am the biggest Bo and Hope fan ever, but this is the BEST thing that could happen to that couple. Bo and Hope were five seconds from being the new Tom and Alice.

Wow! I never thought she would go back for some reason. I'm a definite Otalia fan, but I am a Crystal fan first and this is great for her. To have a job sealed is great. Still sad about GL though. Dang, I guess I will be watching Days.

C.C. is the main breadwinner in her family. She has to think about putting dinner on the table. C.C.'s husband is no longer a star.
As much as I love watching her on GL, I have to respect her decision to take care of her family.
C.C.'s return to Days opens lots of possibilities and should be a good thing for Peter Reckell and Kristin Alfonso since C.C. will inevitably be involved in some story with them.
Hmm...I wonder who's going to be leaving the cast to free the cash to pay for C.C.'s salary?

Not to be Debbie Downer but I see 3 problems with this.
1. Didn't CC's Carly have more chemistry w/ Robert Kelker-Kelly's Bo than she did with Peter Reckell? or am I thinking of Billie? I always got Billie and Carly mixed up, especially after Lisa Rinna left the show and they recast Billie.
2. Besides Bo and Hope, who on earth will Carly interact with on the show? Her brother Frankie is gone, her BFF Jennifer is gone, all the Alamains are gone, who does that leave? WIll they recast her son, Nicky? The last time she saw him he was a little boy, but then a year later he was a grown man who had an affair w/ Kate. Could be some conflct there between Kate and Carly, but only if they cast the right actor to play her son.
3. How on earth is Days affording CC? Does this mean more cast cuts?

This is why I am so glad that DC is on twitter because I had just left the site 20 minutes ago and I wouldn't have seen this news until tomorrow afternoon!
Someone better keep tab on Jamey because I'm afraid if his tweets and replies here suddenly stop, it's because he has passed out from running in the streets yelling "Carly's back!". Or been arrested for disrupting the peace! LOL!
I need to start catching up on Days because Crystal Chappell is one of those actresses that will make me return to a soap after many years.
