DC #416: CBS and Days Side Hustles

Thank you guys so much for your ATWT bitchfest. Everything you said was spot on about why the show is almost unwatchable and that Goutman needs to go along with Passanante.

Your comments about Bonnie's weave were awesome and CHURCH. It's painful to look at and I don't understand why the elephant in the room - her atrocious weave - hasn't been taken care of by TPTB. I guess Davida Williams should count herself lucky how they do her hair on the show... when they let her out of minority closet.

THANK YOU for the Sharon riff re: Y&R. I know the writers see her as the sacred cow but her behavior is so wrong with Jack. And she is a needy mess and it annoys me that no one on the show has really called her on her behavior in the past few months. I also am not feeling the love about the Sharon & Nick reunion. I feel nausea. Both of them are so self-absorbed, and I totally agree that Nick is trying to re-live his past with Sharon. I am wondering if he actually is still in love with her or in love with what she represents, which is happier times in his mind.

Jamey, I LOVE your rants against ATWT. I always agree with everything you say. Keep em coming, maybe eventually P&G will listen.

Yeah, B&B. I like Brad Bell, but the man needs to wake up and take a look at how fast that soap is falling in the ratings. If he's not careful that soap will be next after ATWT.

Jamey, you killed it today, yes, I totally agree about Sharon being a whimping spineless mess and it is not good on her. She needs help and I don't think that a reconciliation with Nick is a good idea when she has so much baggage and I glad that Phyllis called him out on his mess today.

ATWT needs a new headwriter and exec and get rid of the "vortex of suck".

Days is getting good and can't wait for the next episode.

GL is the best soap on air.

B&B is a train wreck and its needs some intervention because if not the show would be next on the cancellation watch.

Jillian I agree with you on your opinion of Days. I tuned into Grace's death this week and don't see it. I DVR'd it and fell asleep watching it. That's not a good sign for me. I'll likely tune out after this week again.

What is wrong with the show for me? I just don't care about the characters. I never cared for Nicole, never have and watching her sulk in the background annoys me. Chloe annoys me because she wavers so much as a character that I don't care for her at all when I liked her as "Ghoul Girl". I don't see the appeal of Daniel. Yes, Shawn Christian is easy on the eyes, but the character of Daniel has not been portrayed in a manner that is appealing to me. He saves lives, but wants a married woman who I don't care for. Philip is too over the top for me. He's supposed to be menacing in the business world, but I don't care for him as a result. Also, I don't see the chemistry between Philip and Stephanie. And it bothers me that Steve and Kayla are in the background while Stephanie is going through all of this. It's sloppy writing to me!

What I like? Victor throwing out insults at Chloe. They're great zingers and I laugh. The only thing that I've watched this week that was of interest was Grace's death, but EJ was over the top for me. The trembling was too much for me.

All in all, the characters mean the most to me. Unfortunately, a chunk of them have been booted and the ones that are left are ones that I don't like or just feel like an empty shell of their former selves. And DAYS is the show that is nearest and dearest to me too so it's a shame to be unhappy with the show. Bring on Vivian!

Dear podcast team,

I hope that you will start addressing what is wrong on Y&R on the podcast. Yes MAB did well but, there is a reason why Y&R is loosing viewers, and it should be address.

Some of MY gripes:

Nick flopping so much between Sharon/Phyllis, allegedly being in love with two women I did not buy it and seriously JM did not sell it at all, he is expressionless on most of his scenes. It made it a sleazy story instead of a love story of a guy wanting to go back to the love of his life. We want love story not waffle guy!

Sharon had a mental breakdown, which can explain her tardy behavior and make us excuse her BUT after ONE session she quit therapy. It makes her stupid and weak instead of someone facing her problem head’s on! It is a slap in the face for everyone having to go through a real mental breakdown with a love one. It could have become a great way to teach people to look for the clues and how to proceed. They just used it as a ploy to give Sharon a pass to sleep with 3 guys, which she would never have done. Jamey how come you did not address this one!

Writing Noah as the worst son ever for Sharon! From experience and psych 101, a son always aligns with the mother and is very protective when the father leaves them. They NEVER accept the stepmom. From day one they made Noah an obnoxious son sucking up to stepmom.

Seriously, and the last straw Noah probably is the ONLY child who ever leave who does not want his parent back together. And he freaking lied when he said that he wanted them to be together when he was younger. We were there, he always suck up big time to Phyllis, and never supported his mother.

He is a freaking 16 years guy not a child anymore! He acts like a 4 year old, he had not one iota of compassion for his mother when she was obviously sick and needed help he was either siding with Phyllis or Eden. Frankly it makes him a poor excuse of a human being!

As for Y&R teen NOT one of them is interesting, they are both the most self centered people I have never seen, and I cannot root for any of them! I loath summer coming on and having to watch them more!

We see Hogan signature all over. The women are weaker and need man so much they barely function without them.
Bed hopping from almost all characters, too much, woman don’t want sex they want romance.
Where are the great corporate stories Y&R was so good at. The dealing and betrayal to get: stock/board seat and such, all gone.
Characters are starting to get twisted to fit the plot: Sharon the good wife and good mother suddenly is sleeping around, Noah in one word Eden and nothing else matter, Nick lost his balls he is a weak guy now, Jack is a walking carpet and a man whore now, Phyllis can not manage RS without Nick and cannot live without him, that one was jaw dropping! Ashley is brainless and trusts everything Adam says.

Hogan is doing to Y&R what he did to ATWT, he is destroying the essence of all character one by one, he is the reason why I stop watching ATWT, and he is making it unwatchable for all strong women who won’t sell their soul for a man!

It is about time that the great podcast team starts addressing the real problem of Y&R.
There is a reason why ANY soap loose viewers by the truck load ANY of them.

timepass, you hit the nail on the head about why I feel that what is wrong with Y&R. EVen though the dialogue is great the performances is spot on, but something is missing and there is no one to root for like back in the day. The show needs to address Sharon's problem before her going back to Nick because nothing has change and when they get bored, they will do the same thing all over again without dealing with Sharon's emotional state. I would have her go back to therapy before her get back with Nick because then the relationship would be much more stronger if they dealt with it. I want Phyllis to move on and Jack to find his kids and be a father to them. And they need to fix the Winters s/l. It is horrible.

I disagree with you about Noah sucking up to Phyllis. Noah was portrayed as a nice kid who grew to love both of his stepparents. What's wrong with that? How could Noah have supported his mother better? His sister died and few months later his dad dumped his mother. Wouldn't that cause a kid to have issues?

SORASed Noah has been a brat since he appeared in August of 2008.

I root for Kay, Jill, Cane, Lily, Gloria & Jeff (they're evil and hilarious!), Daniel, Amber, Jana, Kevin, Devon, and Neil. The good definitely outweighs the bad on this show.

Jamey, you and your Melody Thomas-Scott impersonations are so wrong and yet so, so funny. LOL!!!

It reminds me of how I was working in this law firm in the early 90s. A group of us would go to the break room for lunch to watch AMC, back when it was very, very good. Since we had lunch from 1 to 2, we would wait until the Y&R viewers finish at 1:30. Nikki Newman would have something to cry about EVERY SINGLE DAY, and no one does drama cry like Ms. Melody, and it would crack us up. We even had the Y&R viewers laughing. Good times.

I'm just gonna post positives here so I have to say again I can't wait till CC comes to days.
Alison Sweeney and James Scott blew me away with the s/l that they were asked to play. I didn't find Ej to be over the top and his reaction to Sami was very normal considering. Oh and I loved Sami smacking Ej its been long over due. They are gonna end up together but I hope not for a very long time b/c I like them as enemies. jmo
