Another great podcast. My only objection was the comment about "Dr. Edmund Grey." Not sure why you had an objection to John Callahan because he's a veteran. It sounded ageist. Callahan has bills to pay, child support. He's a good actor. Should he just disappear and try to find work in dinner theatre in Boca?

Veteran soap actors are just people. I'm happy to see vets like Callahan. Hell, I was ecstatic to see Tamlyn Tomita on GH this week playing Kate's nemesis.

I'm just glad Darin Brooks is leaving. I don't care how often he gets an Emmy nomination, he is awful and nothing showcased that better then last year's "mad maxathon" we watched.

i loved carrie - until they brought her back (NOT with Mike) and put her back with Austin...ugh...

i would so tune back in if she came back and mike did too....to me they were gonna be the central couple of the show.

I never liked Billie, especially when she was portrayed by Lisa Rinna! They always played it like she was the only one who was able to get Bo to forget about Hope when he was just with Carly Manning! The only Billie I liked was portrayed by Julie Pinson because she was easy to look at (no excessive plastic surgery like Lisa Rinna) and was not a total bimbo like Krista Allen.

And I agree with you kiyote72 about Carrie! I mean when she made love to Mike in Vegas, she felt like she was on a floating mattress! Austin could never do that! It was corny, but it sealed it for me that Mike was meant for Carrie and not Austin, the dumb boxer.

Carrie is a good girl because she left Austin. He treated her like CRAP. Carrie finally chose a happy reln for once — and a guy who wasn't fooled by her evil sister!

I watch the Charity Rahmer "trying" to act and it was atricious. I was just laughing and it just hilarious. The casting director needs to be fired.

No hate for Jett Carver or Franco Kelly?

Also, you guys hate Melanie a lot... often referring to the actress by name even when it should be the character you're talking about so it comes across as lots of hate for the actress instead of the character... but I've seen on several boards people who are feeling that Melanie as a supporting character is less abrassive and less annoying. She's not a lead character and hasn't been for a while. You guys seem to still hate Melanie a lot, which is fine, but I've seen on other boards that ire toward the character has lessened. I'm not a fan of the character though I don't hate her but your loathing of the character seems to be about talking viciously about the actress very personally moreso than hating on the character.

Josstheguy, the podcast is called Top 5 characters WE can't stand. Not who everyone can't stand. W/JC, its nothing about his age as you can hear on the regular podcast we love the vets. He just happens to be hamming it up on DAYS.

I completely forgot about Jett Carver....he was awful!

Again, I love the podcast but the it sounded like someone said something to the effect of why hire a vet when the show could hire a lesser known vet for $1,000 a day.

If I inferred wrongly, my apologies. I'm very sympathetic to the older vets.

Luke, you mean Marcus Patrick's Jett Carver? He of the Playgirl spread and stripping fame? I think I missed Days when he was on but read about how he got fired after his pics were released. What was the guy thinking?

WAIT...I meant Jeremy Horton from that s/l...Marcus Patrick as Jett wasn't great, but he had nothing on the Jeremy Horton.

Josstheguy, the question posed is why hire a VET for a day player role after firing your CORE VETS. Jamey was saying either use him for front burner or put someone in that role that pays less. DAYS' claims they were over budget and that's why they had to get rid of Drake and Dee. Yet they have a vet on but doing day player work and getting VET pay.

I think you guys are assuming that Callahan is getting vet pay. I wouldn't place that bet.

Judi Evans is selling cemetery plots. Right? She's a great actress but no one is hiring her on daytime or evening. I read where Roscoe Bourne (vet of Ryan's Hope, OLTL, and Y&R) was pretty anxious to take anything because he needed to make his minimum union hurdle to qualify for health insurance.

Also, I've seen several well regarded film actors on soaps recently.

I'm just realistic about the fate of many soap actors. Many of them just disappear from acting all together. I read an article in the Washintonpost.com about former Another World superstar Paul Michael Valley. He couldn't get another soap gig. He was too old (42), etc. Here's the article:

Where are most of the actors from Passions who were good? Only two have landed decent gigs on Days. Lindsay Hartley is MIA. Tracey Ross and Ben Masters are nowhere to be seen. Kim Johnston Ulrich?

I understand the desire to want to see established Days players on the show. But, I don't think that it's fair to assume that a guest actor like Callahan is making big money that is stealing cash that would have paid for Thao P.'s salary.

And, yes, I wish that Days had offered Diedre and Drake a 50% pay cut to keep them. That didn't happen.

(As someone who loves the Quartermaines, I'd love to see more Monica and Edward. Don't get me started about killing off Alan!)

Josstheguy I don't know what you think but we @ DC love vets. If you listen to the podcast we're very pro-vet and Jamey was just asserting his opinion. NOBODY said that DAYS gave Dee and Drake's $$$ to John and so on...

2. Austin Peck as Austin Reed.... true he has been much better on ATWT. But I remember when that boy was visible reading the cue cards line for line. He incorporated this vapid look into his scenes to try to cover it up.
1. all time worst Pete Jennings. In the 1980s he was the definition of bad acting. Ever line he said started with the word (word?) "lookit" until everyone in the cast started saying it. It was years before that word was excized from the Days scripts.

Josstheguy, Passions didn't pay like their counterparts. When they went to DIRECTV, they got salaries CUT.... I can see why Judi's pushing those funeral plots! *LOL*

In regards to Marcus Patrick, he didn't get fired because of the playgirl pics, he got fired because he was such a bad actor.

I forgot about Willow. I really can't stand JT as Roman either, can't believe he's played him the longest.

the fly by crew was a joke. I couldn't stand anyone one of them either. Hated Willow, glad that she was killed off, Charity Rahmer was very bad, and Molly Burnett is terrible. When you are an actor is an acting, you put yourself out there for criticism and praise and she is not rising above the material that is on the script. The character is not needed. But the first Jan was the worst character ever. Can't stand the actor and hated the whining woe is me crap.

Looks like the Melanie hate on this blog will never die, but I´m not sure why you are still commenting on the past storylines. Was this podcast old or something? It seems that way. Anyway, I´m happy you are a minority in this and I hope she will stay on DAYS for years. For me, she is one of the highlights of the show, especially lately when they give her a chance to play a lot of comedy. Molly is spunky, funny, full of energy and always entertaining. In some way she reminds me young Jennifer played by Missy Reeves, my most beloved character ever, because she has the same kind of dazzling screen presence and is not afraid to go face to face even with much older and experienced actors. Comparing her with Charity Rahmer, who was monotoous, afraid of her acting partners and not giving the character anything from her is not even funny. Molly is anything but that, she already lost most of her beginner's mannerisms and the writers are doing all the right moves to develop Melanie into a uniq and longterm character.

I only have one person who I really can’t stand. I had to take a break from the show because of them and their debut is the date I mark as the beginning of the end of Days. That character is EJ DiMera. He's been shoved down our throats since day one and has completely eaten the show.

Also I didn't mind Willow. The show was so stale back then and she was kind of a fresh character.
