BREAKING NEWS: Gina Tognoni Quits Guiding Light Before Endgame!

This Just In: TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco has updated The Suds Report with news of Gina Tognoni refusing to extend her contract the Guiding Light through the show's finale!
On the heels of daytimeconfidential.com's shocking reveal that Jeffrey O’Neill will soon die, The Suds Report has exclusively learned that today was Emmy winner Gina Tognoni’s (Dinah) last work day on GL. The former One Life actress refused to extend her GL contract until the finale on Sept. 18. At the very last minute, GL had to re-write long-term story to accommodate Tognoni’s decision to quit her popular role. There is no word yet as to why she didn't re-sign with the cancelled soap. One source speculates that the reason behind Tognoni’s shocking decision could be because she has agreed to a new soap gig. I’ll have more details next week.
Don't put on the sack cloth just yet Dinah fans. We're is hearing GL is planning to break the bank to get Tognoni to appear in the fnale.

Seriously? There are only a few months left! Dinah has always been one of my favorite characters and I love her and Shayne as a couple! I guess I'll have to wait for more info to understand this!

As a Guiding Light fan for very many years,(I use to skip school just to watch the show growing up). It does not surprise me that they are killing the Jeffrey character off. This will give the writers a chance to finally put Josh and Reva together for their move to Oakdale USA. I think it is rather sad this all coming to and end. Unless you're a fan of Josh and Reva who will settle down on As The World Turns....As far as Gina she needs to run far away from this whole mess. Yes it may be going down in a blaze of glory, but you are far better than any of this mess these writers have done to this one time pristine show.

She couldn't have stuck around a couple of more months?
GL,don't bother breaking bank, use the money to get Maureen Garrett or someone else to make an appearance in the finale.

Well, I hope that she comes back to the finale of GL, but who can blame her for the shabby treatment of the fans and actors who gave their all for the show and what do they get in return? Nothing. So I don't blame her for bolting early.

I don't get what 6 more weeks could have hurt her. The show won her 2 Emmy's for christ sake. I do think having the Dinah character there for the finale is rather important, but who says it has to be Tognoni - if she wants to go, I guess, let her go. Jennifer Gatti,
Paige Turco, and Wendy Moniz are all still around as far as I know - call one of them up. God, Ellen Wheeler can't even keep around one of the people who has been her biggest cheerleaders?!?! I hope Wheeler stays FAR FAR FAR away from producing ANYTHING when she kills GL in September.

A Soap is dying there is no going back. That is something you can say you did with your life, I think OLTL would understand the Soaps are a family..

I think this is all smoke and mirrors.
They will break the bank to get her in the last episode. Sounds a bit like a cliff-hanger to me.
Like she won't work the last month and yet she will come back to wrap the storyline up.
Why break the bank for her on the last day..
Please do they even listen to the rumors that print.
If today was her last episode that means she will air well into July, almost August....
If the show cared about her or the viewers they would have found a way to wrap all these storylines up and make fans happy.

That may be the problem. The show doesn't care and that is a shame. *shakes head* Whatever, I am starting not to care either. Which is the real shame.

Perhaps she got wind of the storylines the show planned to tell and wasn't on board for the ending they had in mind for Dinah. Thought i'm not sticking around for this.

Yeah, it's smoke and mirrors! GL wants her back for the last show, DC didn't imply she'd agree to it! If she did sign with a new show, then she can't return.

If KZ had done it then I wouldn't have been surprised since she always speaks her mind in interviews and has criticized the show numerous times.
GT was rah rah GL, best show ever, I love you Ellen"
I just hate inconsistency in people.
Also wasn't GT supposed to be the most sought after actress in daytime? I would think that that would give her some power when in comes to negotiating and have many offers lined up.
Was she so adamant about returning to OLTL that she would accept less money then she asked for and also leave GL before it goes off the air?

Guess this rules out ATWT as her next home...
Whatever Gina Tognoni does next, I'll be watching--she's a great actress.

She is a sought after actress, but she wants to stay in New York and since the economy is what it is, I don't think that she is able to command a higher salary for another gig so she would have to take what offer OLTL gives her and she is know as Kelly Cramer and Ron C. is a good writer when he is let to write for what he wants to write.

Do I think this might be true............yes...
At the same time wasn't it reported just a few short weeks ago she was going to OLTL, only to hear the next week that she wanted to much money and they turned her down..
After reported that ATWT's wants 4 GL players and GT was one.
Now..
She is gone doesn't want to stick around 5 weeks for a show she has been part of for 6 yrs.

I've lost all respect for GT. If CC had the class to make Days wait til she finished, then GT should have done the same. Horrible. I hope ABC lets JVD come back for the final episode making it all about Ross and Blake instead.

This does support rumors that have been on some boards for sometime now. There were strong rumors that she was going before the show was even cancelled, that she had been offered another job on another soap when her contract was up in June.
Then there were a few boards that said back in May that she was going, that she was finishing the month of June and then Dinah would be off the show.
This was around the time that talk about the show making the jump to a new network seem possible and there were those that said, if the show goes GT is not going with it, she is leaving at the end of June.
I think people just assumed she would stay for the 6 weeks to wrap things up. The show had to know something if these rumors were making it's way to certain boards.
It's really to bad, for the people who have watched GT's Dinah for almost 6 yrs. It doesn't seem Dinah is going to get a happy ending and if she does it's going to seem forced. The only way her happy ending works is if Jeff Branson leaves early with her, if Dinah & Shayne (perhaps Henry) all leave together. But JB is under contract till the end and I doubt the show is clever enough to make that happen.
Thanks for the info Nelson.
It sure does explain lots of things and the reason there hasn't been one sound from her or her people.
It does leave a bad feeling as a fan, I really don't think it plays well to have GL in it's final day on one network and at the same time you show up on your old show as your old character, while viewers on GL are cheated out of a proper goodbye. It's bad PR in my book and somebody at ABC should rethink the setup on this before they plan a start date, if that's the way this is going down.

Dinah's been seriously boring me for quite some time, I wasn't really looking forward to the sort of hypocritical, fake "Dinah and Shayne/Mallet will live happily ever after" scenes. If they really do need her, they should bring Wendy Moniz back. But seriously Dinah is more interesting when she's trouble, and I doubt she'll be causing any at the end, I don't know why but a happy ending just doesn't fit the character IMO. Maybe it is better for Dinah to leave town on her own a while before. Maybe that's how Gina sees it.

Doesn't it seem strange that GL didn't offer and get GT to sign a contract extension back in April when the show knew it had been canceled? The producers had 3 months to negotiate with GT to get an extension. Doesn't that say something?
This is sad but it's just business. GT's contract ended. She's found a new job but has to start right away. GT's got a family and maybe a mortgage to pay like many other people.
Welcome to the 21st Century. Companies have no loyalty to their employees. The fire them at a drop of a hat. Right? Employees have to look out for themselves and take work where they can get it.
What makes GT any different from Sally the GM auto assembly line worker who's been given a 60-day layoff notice and has to find a new job. Wouldn't it be smart for Sally to find a new gig that can start quickly to keep food on the table?

I have to agree with you about Dinah being pretty boring of late. I think that is all about the Henry storyline, it has been lacking in so many ways.
I do think it took lots of the fiesty spark Dinah & Shayne had in there relationship out of it.
But I fear the was this show is going they are going to have her do some sort of selfless act for Shayne and Henry and leave so they can be happy, which is so not Dinah.
The Dinah I watch would not be sitting back taking no action when it comes to how Shayne is dealing with this baby situation. Dinah was willing to fake a pregnancy to have a family with Edmund. She burned a hotel down, she pretended to be Cassie and she took action against Lizzie out of hurt for her brother.
She just isn't the lets walk away without a fight sort of girl.

Ellen Wheeler is a whiz at contract negototiation and keeping talent in her stable. Look at Laura Wright, Ricky Paull, Beth, John D...

you cant blame her....what would you do if your company was closing and you had an offer somewhere else...would you risk that to just stick around to the end....NO you would NOT! get real its a job. hope she is coming to one of the soaps i watch.

I'm not mad at her for leaving before the end. I didn't think Dinah needs to stay until the finale. I don't like that something has to trash GL once again, it is very tiring.
I'm sure Gina will get to be on another soap till its last episode anyway.

I don't know, I know that soap jobs are far and few between but this is Gina T supposedly the most wanted actress in soaps right now and she couldn't tell whichever soap she's going to, to wait 6 more weeks? It feels like a slap in the face to Dinah fans and honestly Gina has been a big Ellen Wheeler cheerleader and if we fans have to stick it out till the end with all the changes and new production model I feel like she should to.

I completely agree katiebug, rumors was that she was the most wanted actress and had pretty much every soap after her so really she couldn't demand that her new contracts start in 6 weeks? Maybe she needs to fire her agent because he doesn't seem to be handling this whole thing very well.
Also I sincerely doubt that she is the only actor on the show that is currently in negotiations with other soaps.
I just don't like the fact that she has been (overly) supportive of GL almost to a ridiculous agree, quite frankly, and then she finds herself in this situation.
Sometimes it is better to say less then to spew company poicy, that way you don't look like a complete hypocrite when the ish hits the fan.
