General Hospital Spoilers!

Here’s the Scoop! 06.26.09

Thank God it’s Friday! It’s been a long week with far too many sad stories. Which is exactly why I look to my guilty pleasure to uplift me, not bring me down any further. Can GH pull itself out of its slump to pull the fans out from theirs?

They could have started by giving Rick Hearst a better send off… Can we even call what we got a send off? Ric mentioning to Claudia and Diane that he’s leaving town for an offer he couldn’t refuse in LA. Is that how you write out an Emmy winning actor? I know, I know, there wasn’t enough time is their excuse. There was plenty of time. The minute Hearst was dropped to recurring an exit should have been prepared. They didn’t seriously think another show wasn’t going to come and snatch him up, did they? GH isn’t that full of themselves, are they? I’m sorry, this fan is bitter. Was that parting line of “I’ll be back” supposed to ease our pain or toy with our emotions? I’m not sure if there are enough words to describe just how disappointed I am in this sendoff.

More Coleman? It was nice to see Coleman back behind the bar at Jake’s and the bar SEEMS to be getting a resurgence of scenes. It bothered me when some day player filled in the other day but it LOOKS like Coleman will be making another appearance soon. YAY!

Who’s Robin’s suspect? Robin thinks she knows who really killed Brianna Hughes. Will Andrea Floyd overhear Dr. Scorpio’s suspicions? What will the first lady of PC do with that info? But will there be more to this story? Like Robin clearing the name of someone she cares about?

So I already mentioned a few times that the Mayor is taking Alexis down with him. Why? He wants to take some of the heat and press off of him by putting it on Alexis. Apparently, an affair with the Mayor means the DA can’t do her job. So what does an arrest for murder mean for the Mayor? But is the Mayor’s intention to get the charges dropped by claiming that Alexis is just a jealous ex-lover? Kristina is mortified when the news of her mother’s indiscretion hits the news. All bets are off and apparently so is Kristina’s good girl act.

It’s weird to not be dishing about the usual suspects being dragged into the PCPD. Hey it’s still weird to me that we hardly see the PCPD anymore. It used to just be the fans having to dispel reality enough to believe that criminals walk free in Guza’s world. Now, they don’t even bother to show the PCPD anymore. But they must have used the set while they had it rolled out. There are RUMORS of Jason being brought in for questioning. What’s Diane to do? She took a high profile medical malpractice suit because Corinthos – Morgan have been “unusually law abiding.” Will Jason’s “questioning” take her away from the big case?

Michael, Michael Motorcycle… No! Just feeding into everyone’s insistence that Michael is Jason’s biological son. As previously SCOOPED, Sonny buys his boy a sports car and apparently he didn’t clear it with Carly first who is even more convinced that Michael should move in with the Q’s. Now, I love the Quartermaines and while I would love nothing more than to see them get some much deserved story, IF written properly, the Q’s are hardly a moral compass. Yes their business is legit but the Q’s have historically not been on the up and up where business or personal matters are concerned. This is where Jax’s blackmail of Claudia comes in. He wants her to help persuade Sonny that the Q Mansion is the best place for Michael to reside. Jason is initially against the idea but agrees that at the very least, Michael will be safe. Will Michael have the old man snowed too? RUMOR has it Edward is a little too permissive with his great – grandson and despite Michael being upset with Jason and Sonny for agreeing with Carly, he may be changing his mind when he has Edward giving in to his every wish.

Spixie Stall? Not in that sense. Maxie is ready to go all steam ahead and Spinelli puts on the breaks. Why? He wants to court her properly. Awwww, now that’s a love story. And now that I’ve said that, they’ll screw it up.

RANDOM and CRAZY… Ethan’s spying… Will he blow Rebecca’s cover? Will Ethan be a jealous lover or worried that Rebecca is going to back out on their con and leave him hanging? My new favorite duo, Johnny and Jason will be working together again. Who is Johnny loyal to? Not his sister apparently as Dominic wants him to help but Johnny refuses to aid the newbie in taking Sonny down. But Johnny MAY have his own issues with Sonny as he thinks Olivia isn’t as over Sonny as she proclaims to be.

How about a little fun on a Friday afternoon? Fanfic? Spoiler? Who is part of a hit and run? Who is the driver? Passenger? Victim? What MAY the victim try to spill from their hospital bed? Will they make it? Discuss...

Ask ‘em if you got ‘em… I’ll do my best.

You guys missed the point. The insider was saying that GUZA wants Jason a certain way. That doesnt mean he cant have a role in Jake's life, its that TPTB dont want him settled with a wife and a kid under his roof playing the dutiful hubby (akin to how they write Lucky). The scenes are written that way, with Jason being super Jase (sueboo didnt you once say he was PC's version of Batman). They tested Jason and Lizard as what the insider called "the sneak around couple"...meeting at the so-called "safe" house or her studio or at the docks, the longing glances and what not. That pairing, in that format bombed. Writing Jason again as the action guy they tested JaSam and people liked them as the adventure couple. Had BOTH pairings flopped, tiic would have been in a corner...change Jason, pair him with someone new and test again, something....but both versions didnt flop - the groups liked JaSam and that is why, assuming both actors re-sign with the show, we will be getting JaSam again. Now I have no idea if this theory holds water or if they were in fact tested and if in fact these were the results. I dont know if this "insider" is an insider or a housewife from Hoboken. It has the air of truth to it, but who knows.

As for who is a fan of the show, honestly dont speak for me and what I am or am not a fan of. I have been watching before Jason was even conceived and certainly long before Sam came to PC. And never did I even consider "voting with my remote" because the Jason pairing I wanted wasnt being written (if that was the case, I would have bailed the day Carly 1.0 had sex for the first time with Sonny) I have yet to hear any Sam fan say they are pleased with the overall show or that they like the writing. I think, and most JaSam fans think, that re-pairing our favorite couple will be one positive thing that the show can do to head in the right direction. I also thinking writing a true Spixie romance would be an improvement over what we have now. I think the Mayor's mistress murder mystery was a positive step. But none of those things, individually or collectively makes me think the show is in a good place - certainly not as long as Ethan is mumbling his way through Port Charles, Lizard is rolling her head at Nik and NotEm, Rebecca is eyeballing nik, Claudia is messing up her plan du jour, and Lucky has been returned to his sad sack ways.

Finally, why is it that calling Liz Lizard lowers the discussion, but folks regularly call Ethan Teethan, Lucky Sucky, and Lulu ShrewLu and no one says spit.

I think that some of the negative names have humor at their core, Lizard and Liarson seem and I say seem mean spirited and I think offensive to the actors and the fans of those actors or sls.

As for the adventure guy, Luke, Scorpio, Frisco, et. al were adventure guys. Jason was a hitman and mob boss. Perhaps the focus groups want to see adventure in the future but at no point had Jason been and adventure guy pre, during, or post Sam. Jason also seems to have a type of woman he likes and constantly puts herself in danger has never been on his list of requirements.

As for Sam's desire to be a pi, that is something that was pulled from the Sam investigates Jerry disaster. i wanted to like this character but I cant figure out who she is if the writers cant.

I think we all just want a better show.

maxsmom - Again, I agree with you. It is extremely childish that the same posters cannot use Liz's name. It is intended to rile her fans and it is childish.

Yes, I once said that Jason as Port Charles answer to Batman. That was sarcasm. Jason solves every crisis. It gets old. Let the man have some downtime and be happy with his family. I am sure the focus groups are just filled with pathetic stripper lovers. Do we want them determining the direction of the show? I guess only the Sam fans do. They like what the focus groups like.

I really find it hard to believe Nathan Parsons or his fans wouldnt find the term Teethan every bit as offensive as you all claim Lizard and Liarson is to you. And here's the difference...Teethan was meant as a reference to the way NP curls his upper lip and the size of his teeth. Those are his CHARACTER'S characteristics because they are HIS characteristics. No one using the world Lizard is implying that Rebecca Herbst looks like a Lizard. Her characters name is LIZ hence Lizard. And how is Liarson any different than people calling NEM NUM or Emily and Sonny SOILY instead of Sonily (or whatever their fan base calles them, I think thats was it). Its just silliness that it gets any one "riled" up. You wont find me losing sleep over sue calling Sam Sham. Seems a bit lizocritical to hold up one name out of all the others as problematic. Be consistent.

As for what Jason likes in a woman, listen to what Jason says about Carly. He has said time and time again that even though she can be misguided he knows that when he needs her she always comes through, that she is always on his side. Thats a big part of what he likes about Sam. And you say he hasnt historically liked women who get in danger...Carly may not have been in danger quite as much, but she was often in trouble. And she has had her share of danger too...Rick keeping her in the panic room, shooting herself up with virus during the epidemic, the hotel fire) Courtney was always in danger too (think AJ stalking her, Rick throwing her in the cave, her having to shoot the cop etc.) Oops I forgot Robin, yes she is a "good girl" (and personally I dont buy that Lizard is but I know thats where many see her), but she was in some ways walking danger because a big part of their story was how they could have a relationship without Jason getting infected with HIV. And though Robin is a good girl type, she also is use to danger, intrigue and the threats that surround someone like Jason.
The relationships Jason had pre-Carly belonged to Jason Quartermaine, not Jason Morgan. If anything, Lizard is the one that breaks the pattern, because she isnt good in a crisis, she isnt action oriented and she doesnt always stand by him. I would argue its because their relationship wasnt a choice. Jason chose Robin. Jason chose Carly. He definately chose Courtney and while I know the haters will say Sam got dumped on his couch, the truth is that before anything happened between them she went to leave him and he asked her to stay, choosing her. Lizard climbed the stairs in the dark to find Jason in a similiar state of heartbreak and he acted on his connection with her over the years. Jason didnt seek her out, she came to him, and had she not gotten pregnant, he would have stayed with Sam (based on the words and actions the writers assigned to him at the time. All of Jason's choices stemmed from the existance of Jake. Fifteen years in the making as fans like to say screams that its fifteen years of Jason NOT chosing Lizard.

Finally, hey if we are going to talk about insulting, Sue its clear that you think what the focus groups like is trash and what Sam fans like is trash, beneath the high brow entertainment (Liarson?) that you prefer. Well the focus groups clearly like SPixie, you have said you like Spixie (as do I)- how is that any different. Everything I have read from behind the scenes says that the focus groups and internal tracking is overwhelmingly positive for Scrubs. Does that mean Scrubs fans like myself are low brow because what they like is also liked by the focus groups. Again, lets be consistent here. Liking what the focus groups like isnt a bad thing per se and more than not liking what they like is a good thing. Focus groups are simply a tool. And heres what I dont get - Liarson fans slam Frons since the pairing ended because he should just let the head writer write what he sees as his vision. Now we here that that headwriter's vision is Jason as action man, but that doesnt fit with what you want either, so then its not the headwriter who should have a vision but instead tptb should "listen to the fans". Now we find out that the fans polled via focus groups dont support Liarson, and hey they shouldnt be dictating things either. So really, it seems to me that if what you are really saying is that the person who should be setting the vision for GH should be Lizard fans no matter what anyone else thinks. Dont you think EVERY fan group thinks that their vision is right? Not everyone can be, so if not Frons and not Guza and not the focus groups, who then?
