Karrine "Superhead" Steffans Sounds off on Y&R

Not everyone is feeling The Young and the Restless storylines these days. Former video vixen-turned-author Karrine Steffans took to her Twitter page about current storylines and casting decisions.

On Michael Muhney's portrayal of Adam 2.0:

I really need Y&R to get new writer & to fire this new gay bad acting Adam. Does Y&R have a Twitter page???

On Clementine Ford (Mac)

OMG. New-Mac looks SO OLD! Why? And yes, this chick w/ the stuffed cat creeps me out. They're messing up my soap!

African-Americans on Y&R

Right, all the black folks have disappeared. Hmmm...I need this show to have a Twitter page. They got some 'splainin' to do

Maybe Steffans thinks Y&R's writing should be on par with her best selling books, Confessions of a Video Vixen and The Vixen Diaries.

A woman who has made a career out of promoting her better-than-average skills at performing blow jobs is hating on daytime's best soap. I have never been so glad to have an opposite opinion in my life.

All I can agree on is that the African Americans on this show need to come back with a good storyline.

Not everything is perfect at Y&R. I would never say it, but everything is not so bad either in my personal opinion. I personally think that Michael is doing a great job in his portrayal of Adam. Maybe some people have problems with the writing for the character, but I wouldn't call Michael's acting bad. It's always difficult to take over a role ... specially in this case ... and I would say that Michael is doing his best so far and I think a lot can come there.

I don't love CF's Mackenzie, but I don't hate her either. I like her at least better as the last Mac and that's something. And I felt some improvement in Friday's episode. In her acting and chemistry with BM. But maybe that's just me, I don't know. LOL

What I would like to address here is that Y&R should be careful how many crazy storylines they have at one point, how long a storyline can run and how far you really wanna go without make it look like too plot driven.
I think in the last have year Y&R created something good that they don't wanna put an end to and just making a too long story out of it. The undoing in the world of Jill and Kay and the triangle between Sharon, Nick and Phyllis are two stories that worry me here a little bit. And I kinda fear that they doing the same thing with the gay storyline in the show. Which would be sad, because Y&R really tries to take a different step here ... they just shouldn't over do it.

REALLY DC? You're really printing the Twitter ramblings of a glorified PROSTITUTE? Karrine Steffans is as bottom of the barrel as it gets. The woman, book or no book is a bitter, deranged, damaged, publicity seeking prostitute who has made a living selling her body and apparently her soul,to practically every well to do and some not so well to do,male in Hip Hop. She is BEYOND irrelevant, and her opinions are on the same level as manure.

I could get better storylines out of her life then Hell, Heffer, and Slammer could ever write.

How much you wanna bet that her sentiments are held highly by much of the African American audience.

The evidence is mounting.

Just because Ms. Superhead is an an expert in, ahem, certain arenas, doesn't mean her soap opinions are any less valid than anyone else's. She tweets, therefore she is.

Soaps appeal to different people for different reasons. Isn't it probable she doesn't care for Mac and NuAdam cause they're not sexy enough for her? If she watches soaps for beauty and glamor, then she's not going for that.

As for MJ. Girl creepy! I used to like her but after the whole poison Summer thing, I am looking forward to Phyllis running the bey-otch over with her car. I didn't like her that much.

Superhead watching Y&R! I love it!
She's entiltled to her opinion too so ppl can't just say "This video ho dissing Y&R say what?". But like I say I think that is hillarious!

Who said Ms. Superhead speaks for all people of one race? David said Ms. Superhead's opinion was shared by many African-Americans and I suspect he might be right. [If you care, I'm 1/16th A-A, so not sure if I qualify as an A-A voice from your perspective). Ratings though are declining and Y&R has treated its African-American fanbase like an afterthought. MAB can get Thom Bierdz back but she can't write a story for A-As that doesn't involve incest?

I know Jillian that is why I said "much". But if you took a poll i'm sure it would close 70% disapproval ratings from AA viewers. I take the women in my family as pure examples 12 viewers who have just turned it off and the rest of the 30 people I know specifically who have stopped watching recently are AA and mostly women. So there is something that.

Lord I thought this was a joke. I guess hoes like soaps too! Moving on...

I agree with her about CF's Mac and the African-Americans but I am enjoying 90% of Y&R. CF actually hasn't been bothering me as much.

I knew David would be on cloud nine with this. LOL

Ad-girl,

This is America. The One Drop Rule is still the law of the land, so your "black" card is still enforced.

Wink

Seriously, the woman made some mistakes in her life. Why must she permanently afixed with the label prostitute? Is her opinion any less worthy than that of a doctor, housewife, or accountant?

David,

Please stop saying that you speak for the majority of African-Americans! That's really irritating. You and your family are not representative of 40 million people.

We keep saying the same things every day like a frickin' broken record: Y&R needs to improve its diversity. I agree. But that hasn't stopped me or my grandmother or mother from watching Y&R. My grandmother is excited about the return of Nina and Phillip. My mom loves Katherine and Jill.

Why can't you look at the utter horror that is B&B? It's had a historically wretched track record for an L.A. based serial in terms of presenting people of color. Why are there no gay people in the fashion seen?

Why not hack at General Hospital? It's just as bad as portraying people of color.

I see she has no opinions on a woman being pregnant and there being three potential fathers. I guess that would be too much of the pot calling the kettle black.

Glad my "black card" checks out Smile

Ms. Superhead's opinion on Y&R is just as valid as any other viewers. In fact, since she herself is an entertainer of sorts, maybe even more so. Why would a doctor be a better judge of Y&R then Ms. Superhead?

Seriously, on what point is she wrong? She's pretty much right on.

Why did Y&R cast such an old Mac? Why would Billy choose old tired Mac over sexy young Chloe? Did he catch Adam's blindness? Cause that's the only thing that makes sense.

MM is a fine actor but going from young hottie like CE to a pale older older actor is a shock. On top of that, Adam is suddenly gay?! Except he's not? This is just dumb. When you compare this to Otalia, this is very bad writing.

Mary Jane has crossed over into disgusting. She's looking like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction now and TIIC are forgetting that after two hours with GC, we wanted Anne Archer to fry that skank's ass. How do you think we feel after months of this loony tunes who has now put Summer in a coma? So freaking over her.

Sounds like Passions to me...All this mess going on here. Even Soap Opera Weekly referred to Y&R getting all Passions like.

They need a new writer. I like when someone said on her page that all they need now is to have someone have super powers...I was LMAO...See Hogan is not your Hero. He just a Heffer a soap killer.

If Sony is trying to get out of the soap business this sure the way to do it.

I followed PB to Y&R after AMC ended the Cliff/Angie relationship. I have since abandoned ship due in part to Jack having to lose every battle to Victor and VR's departure. Y&R was once the best soap for full blooded sls for the AA actors but they have slipped badly. The sls seemed colorblind once upon a time. I am the AA mother to a biracial 1 year old it's sad that he can have a biracial president not one decent interacial sl. And Lily with the inappropriate white man of the season doesnt count.

Y&R needs an African-American writer. For some reason the white writers on the show are finding writing for African-Americans to be extremely difficult. Maybe they could hire Jamey!

Joss when soaps stop showing me I turn them off. I haven't watched GH in years nor have I watched B&B since the 90's. I only turned back into GL because of the diversity. I recently tuned back into OLTL for the same reason.

This is how it works for me. I talk about diversity all the time. THIS was the one soap I was supposed to be able to depend on out there. It is the soap with the most NAACP Awards and the soap that Black America embraced the most.

I'm finding out the pulse of black America. I never said I speak for everybody, but I can bet my bottom dollar I speak for the majority. I been in this game almost 23 years now. I have a career in Market Research. So I know about demographics. It's not hard to put two and two together here.

I agree ad-girl! If this is their way of handling the black storyline, they need some of color on staff to help w/that. I am not saying to make the black characters stereotypes, but write them in everyday situations that is universal to everyone. I hope Lily's cancer will be the start of that.

The bad part about this, is that most of Y&R's viewers are African-American.

And I agree with her somewhat on MM. I like him, and think he's doing well so far, but for me, he still will never replace CE as Adam with me. I also like his twist with Rafe, and Muhney's hot but he's not smokin' like Engen.

I blame the writers for the current black characters problems. I mean Eva's character Tyra, come on! Why not create her a black foil to Chloe instead of all of this mess she's in. Devon's only good when he had a red hot storyline. Get him together with a major player on the canvas! If someway Y&R Engen would come back and possibly have MM too, and Y&R beef up Devon, give Eva Marcille a new character, and get a new strong new black male and female on canvas, they'd be awesome!

Ad-girl,

Adam is not gay. He's just a borderline sociopath who will do anything to get revenge on his father:

1) Drive an innocent woman crazy? Check!

2) Sleep with a man to throw him off suspicion? Check!

Rafe is just as ruthless, "twisted and warped" as his father Victor Newman. Victor has a long history of extreme behavior to crush his enemies, rivals, and his children.

BTW, Clementine Ford and Billy Miller are both 30 years old.

Again, you say you speak for the "majority." But you don't! What market research have you performed to determine what the majority think?

There are 40 million African-Americans. The majority of whom clearly don't watch Y&R. If they did, Y&R would have more than 4 million viewers.

It's just really irritating when anyone claims to speak for the majority of millions of people with absolutely no scientific data to back up their words.
