That's Just My Baby Daddy: B&B's Donna's Mahogany Soulmate Heading To Town?

Could The Bold and the Beautiful's Marcus (Texas Battle) get a daddy soon? TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco reports Donna (Jennifer Gareis) may come face to face with her ex:

Insiders are buzzing that Bradley Bell will be casting Marcus’s father soon. Paging Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, Y&R)! Hey, I’ll settle for Réal Andrews (ex-Taggert, GH), who got shafted by One Life as Dr. Evans.

Does this mean CBS's finally getting with their diversity program? Stay tuned.

With all the newcomers lately I ask myself how serious this rumors are that B&B is becoming a one hour soap. Just thinking ...^^

The awful thing is ... it would be yet another man wasted in Donna's orbit.

Hell no! They'll air the guy for 6 weeks and then you won't see him for 6 months. And you'll be wondering if he is still on canvas. Then they will trot him out from time to time with the Baker boys and Marcus.

In my own template I had scripted Lt. Baker to be the Baby's daddy with a whole back story of a one drunken night stand after LT. Baker's wife had died of cancer and he had taken to drinking.

I even thought of casting Marla Gibbs as Momma Baker who came and dragged her son home from the hotel the night he slept with her and demanded Donna stay away from her grieving son.

Donna would have tried to tell him that she was pregnant but old Momma Baker wouldn't let her near him. So she had the baby alone.

Momma Baker aka Roberta Baker would then make her way on to the show and we'd begin to build up to the reveal of this storyline as Marcus search for his dad.

Soapjunkie and Marion, Brad Bell has said B&B will not go to an hr. Now that's what HE has said however, we all know how that can change.

David46208, your scenario would make Lt. Baker a pedophile. Donna was 14 or 15 when she gave birth to Marcus. However, if you are referencing his son, that would be a different story. But since they have all come in contact with each other often, it is a moot point.

With SORAS soapsnob anything is possible. When you check the ages of some grown up characters verses their parents...You'd imagine there was a lot of unlawful sex going on in the world of soaps. If people can be buried alive, come back from the dead, be a rapist turned leading man, and have an unaborted son then anything is possible.

Hooray! Finally! Now maybe they could make this character a real player. If he was Donna's one time lover, you know he has to be hot. So, we're thinking a man in his mid to late 30s.

Definitely not Shemar Moore. He's not going to leave a primetime show for B&B. Also, the character would have to be same shade of brown or darker than Marcus. Moore is too fair skinned to be Marcus' father.

Given all of the new characters the show has created, how can they manage all of them? Someone is going to have to leave the canvas or drop to recurring.

My vote is for Ridge! Why not put Ridge on the back burner by sending him to run Forrester International in Europe. He could take Taylor, their kids, and Rick with him! Oh, happy to be rid of Ridge and company!

Come on, you know that all four of them are really irritating and can't act their way out of wooden hat.

Okay, we can keep Taylor but the rest should grab their passports and head out of town.

David46208, because Donna and Marcus appear more like love interests instead of mother and son, it was stated that Donnas was 14 or 15 when she gave birth to him - thus explaining that she was a teenage mother. Imagining Donna with the senior Lt. Baker is all kinds of wrong and nasty.

Jillian, Charlie could be good with Felicia. But, I think that he would be fire with Katie. However, in a perfect world, Heather Tom would step across the hall and reclaim her signature role as Victoria Newman on Y&R; Beth Ann Bonner would assume the role of Katie Logan; and Felicia would be placed in a hot quadrangle with Whip/Brooke/Bill.

Josstheguy,

I agree let Ridge be backburned. That man has been chasing after the same two 'snatches' for over a decade or switching women with his dad.

David,

Soapsnob is right:

First, Lt. Baker is too old to be Marcus' father. The show established that Marcus is only 19/20 and Donna gave birth to him when she was 15 or 16. That would definitely make the detective a perv.

Second, Lt. Baker is also not hot enough to be the father of Donna's child. Both Donna and Marcus are very attractive. Lt. Baker's son could fit the bill.

Josstheguy,

Stefano a looker? How about Eric Forrester? HB Lewis wasn't on the model side himself.
And 20 years ago LT. Baker didn't look the same way. People change over the years.

Donna could have also faked her age. Teens do it all the time. So there is a way to write it as if he didn't know.

Marcus' father has to be equally attractive because he has to pose a threat to Eric. And, if he's to have any staying power, he has to be hot enough for him to be paired with other women.

Lt. Baker's son is hot. He could be paired with Felicia or other characters.

BTW, B&B probably can't expand to an hour in this economic climate with its ratings declining. If B&B had higher ratings there would be a possibility.

Also, since B&B is shown around the world and sold as 30 minute slot filler, the show would have to be made in such away that episodes could be broken in half, I'd imagine.

P.S.

Does anyone else find it weird that Thorne has a Southern twang and every one else in his family has a California or Mid-West standard American accent? It's always seemed odd.

thorne's accent is a running gag with viewers. One day he had none and when the recast came he had an accent.

David,

All of the men you mentioned are /were wealthy older male characters who mainly had affairs with women their age. When they had younger women it was clear that money and power obscured their looks.

Lt. Baker is just a bad choice. He's no Kristof St. John, Billy Dee Williams, Dorian Harewood, or other studly actors.

Lt. Baker is a nice looking guy but he's not the alpha male type that Donna would want.

On the other hand, Charlie Baker would be the kind of man who could light Donna's fire.

Jillian,

That accent is just bad for the character. Why wouldn't the show pay for Winsor Harmon to work with a dialect coach to zap it? The accent worked fine when he was Del on AMC but it's just out of place for a born and bred Californian.

Well as for Charlie Baker cast Brook Kerr as his love interest named Maya.

As for hotness? We end up with Eva Mariclle's and Ron Moss's who can't act their way out of a paper bag. I choose talent over looks. If we are to save this industry then we need more Denzel's, Will Smith's, and Angela Bassett's. And get out of the International Male and Frederick's of Hollywood castings.

David,

There are a ton of beautiful people who are hot and can act very well: Denzel, Angela, and Will are all attractive. Denzel has been People magazine's "Sexiest Man of the Year."

I'm not sure what Charlie Baker's hotness has to do with casting Brooke Kerr.

Lt. Baker's son Charlie is hot without having Brooke Kerr. She's a good actress and I'd be happy to see her on B&B but young Mr. Baker doesn't need Kerr to prove his attractiveness, that's self-evident.

Josstheguy,

Yes Denzel was named that. But he was never some playboy pinup model that they tend to go for these days. Back in the day you had Morgan Freedman and Lawrence Fishburne Even soap alumni Randy Brooks and William Christian. Yes they were considered handsome men in their own right. But they were never Billboard show me your chest types that have dominated soaps in more recent times.

Josstheguy, Your comments are always insightful but you know they need to get rid of Taylor! Hunter Tylo is one of if not the worst actress in daytime. I saw her in a movie on lifetime that she did some 5 years ago, and it reminded me that there is no growth. As you age, you would think that she would grow into a better actress due to life experiences. This woman has very little to no talent. I wish she had never come back to B&B and now there going to pair her with Ridge yet again. Why can't they let Brooke and Ridge be happy for a change!

David,

You're kidding right? Soaps, TV, film and theater have hired actors and actresses for their looks for decades. Ronn Moss was hired in 1987 not 2007. He's no more of a bad actor than Kyle Lowder or Eva Marcille.

Have you ever tried watching some of the movies from Hollywood's Golden Age? The acting was horrible on many fronts. Cary Grant? Did the man ever not be "Cary Grant"? Every film he used the same look, facial expressions, voice, etc.

You have a distorted view of the past. Never every thing was better in Ye Olden Days.

Acting in movies evolved over the years if you compare 1952 to 1972 to 1993 to 2008. Even in primetime it evolved. Why hire actors and actress you know would never be Emmy worthy? Back in the day you had a far larger talent poll in daytime then you did of the bad. But then again they took established film actors, a lot of Broadway stars, and some fresh talent and made good soap.

It's not Hollywood or primetime with the stigma of "all looks and no talent." It's daytime. It is not the only issue, but it is sure one of the reasons many famous actors omitted their soap stints from their resumes in the past.

David,

I think Lamman Rucker would be a good choice to play Marcus' father. He's handsome and has a commanding presence. Definitely the kind of man who could make Donna swoon.

Yes, Lamman Rucker...I would want him on Y&R though. Sans a new head writing team he would be a star. Lamman Is not supporting actor. He has the presence of a lead. B&B would use him and then dump him faster then you could say hello or backburn him after his initial run. But that is a good idea...Heyyyyyyyyy now Rucker could be a love interest for Olivia on Y&R. She needs a man so she can stop playing nursemaid to Ashley.

But if B&B hired him I wouldn't oppose. i might even tune in regularly to see him. I watched him on ATWT and AMC. He can play a very 3 dimensional bad guy.

David,

While acting styles have become more realistic, the pool of actors hasn't shrunk. There are more people who want to be on soaps because they are a steady paying gig.

Also soap acting had a far larger stigma than it does today.

You have to get over this whole "back in the day" mentality. Things were not all rainbows and lollipops. Ronn Moss was hired in 1987. David Hasslehoff was a star on Y&R in the 1970s!

Do you think the Hoff is a great actor? What about Drake Hogestyn?

Pretty faces have always found their way on the screen regardless of their acting ability.

The 1970s and 1980s had some of the worst acting on film or TV.

David,

Unfortunately, most non-white characters end up playing nurse maid, literally, or figuratively (the best-friend) to white characters. This happens to gay men also. The newest accessory every successful white heroine needs is a gay best-friend.

But, hey, if it helps Tonya pay her bills for now...

David,

Nice clip. What a shame that ATWT built up it's African-American cast to only nuke them a year later. As soon as Marshall was labeled Jessica's rapist, one knew that his days on the show were numbered. There was no way that a black man could be a redeemed rapist on daytime.

The guy who played Issac would also be a good choice to play Donna's ex-lover.

Paul Taylor was the name of the actor...Yeah he would be good also. Shucks they could bring Keith Hamilton Cobb over as Damon or as an original character to play Marcus's father.
Here is Cobb as Damon

Well, they do need new characters so that this show can stop being so incestuous! Just look at Brooke, she has been with every man in Ridge's family, except, I think, with his biological father. And Rick is sleeping with Ridge's daughter, who at some point was his sister!
