Last Week's B&B: I Must Be Off My Meds - I Like Katie

The aftermath of the honey fiasco was quite silly really. Pam told Stephanie that she’d been behind Donna’s gunging, but denied it to Donna, Eric and Ridge. She resigned from Forrester Creations before she could be fired, and later in the week went for a job interview at Jackie M. Hilarity ensued. (Note to B&B writers, CCed to Alley Mills: a little campiness goes a long way.) She talked about her brain tumor, she offered them lemon bars and she got the job. That probably means more Pam hi-jinks with wild animals, honey, or both, very soon.
Katie took on damage control for Forrester. Bill convinced her to have a “business dinner” with him, on the understanding that she’d put forward a case to keep the Donna-drenched-in-honey pictures off the front page. Bill made it clear that he wanted to take Eric down and get control of Forrester. She was intrigued by him and wanted to dig deeper. He was drawn to her, but warned her off getting too close. This is the stuff I love - finally, some sparks on B&B. There was a moment I thought they were gonna get fresh on his office desk. They sure beat the dead-on-arrival pistachios and mini-hoops “romance” Katie had with Nick.
Bill asked Katie to pick which image to use for the Eye On Fashion cover. She couldn’t do it, so he took things into his own hands and chose to run the supposedly controversial honey pic. He later proved he had some integrity when he showed Katie a nasty Donna/Eric article that he'd nixed.
Taylor and Ridge hit the sheets. The next day, Brooke brought RJ to see daddy Ridge, and then accused Taylor of taking advantage of a medicated, drunken Ridge. Taylor admitted that maybe she was too caught up in the moment to realise that Ridge had been high as a kite up in Big Bear.

I guess he could've been out of it on pills and booze,
but I was too busy riding him to notice.
Stephanie and Ridge urged Eric to ditch Donna from Forrester Creations, but he stuck by the twit. Eric had a masterplan to get FC back on top – he was appointing a new team. Donna took on Stephanie’s position and Marcus went from post-room to Thorne’s role as head of shipping and receiving. Steffy and Thomas took over Felicia's job, whatever that was. I’m surprised lil’ RJ wasn’t given some crayons and named head designer. Steffy reluctantly became a spokes-model for Forrester and put in a lame-ass performance at the photo-shoot. It wasn’t helped by her weirdo hairdo (or wig?) and gold Vegas outfit. This is high fashion? This is so Go Fug Yourself, Steffy Forrester:

Oh my God, you guys, do I look
like a total dork or what?
Along with Pam, also up for a job at Jackie M was Whip. Stephanie saw his CV and her eyes lit up. She was determined to get him onboard, knowing he’d be good at the job and hoping that he’d distract Brooke until Taylor and Ridge were married. Needless to say, he got the job, and Stephanie mentioned that Brooke was single. At least we’re getting back to warring fashion houses. Could there be some fun business stories in the pipeline?
As Stephanie was scheming, Taylor was getting insecure and talking to herself in a mirror. Can she hold onto Ridge? Maybe he’s too slimy and will just slip through her fingers.

It's destiny, surely.
Brooke told Ridge that she “was wrong” to hand him over to Taylor. They smooched. Then Ridge looked like he had indigestion. What could it all mean? Which woman will get the chance to stroke his bloated ego some more? What a cliffhanger - who’ll win King Toad? Tune in next week to find out whether Taylor or Brooke wins Ridgimortis and gets crowned The Biggest Loser. Why is everyone sweet on that guy? I give up.

Darren,
I LOVE your B&B recaps. They are so funny and dead-on. Though the show clearly frustrates you, it is also clear that you love it. Hang in there and let's hope it gets better.
In re: Jacqueline MacInnes Woods "hair" - something is amiss. Jacqueline must have done something to her hair without prior permission from TPTB OR she had a very bad experience at the hair salon because she is obviously wearing a wig in all her scenes.
By the way, I continue to have a sneaking suspicion that B&B will be extended to an hour in the very near future.

Darren,
Thanks for the recap. I enjoyed the comedy bits.
I just got off the phone with my grandma who is a devoted soap fan of the CBS soaps. She also enjoyed the comedy of Friday's episode.
Like me, she is sick of Brooke and Ridge and Taylor makes three too many. Why would either woman want this toad? The guy dumps his wife and two small children because of the death of another child. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Katie was actually saucy and flirtatious. It's good to see the real Heather Tom break through crap writing.
Don Diamont would be much better if he weren't buried under the sleazy clothes and jewelry. And, someone needs to introduce him to a razor. Some guys look good with a beard. Diamont might look good with one without the Bob Guccione inspired wardrobe, but with the porn mogul get up, the beard adds only to his sleaze factor.
As ever, the Marcus, Steffy, Rick, and Thomas need to be recast or sent on an extended stay to run Forrester International.
B&B has two supercouples:
1) Jackie & Owen
2) Pam and Donna

SoapSnob, it's true - I have an ongoing love/hate relationship with this show.. and I have a tiny bit of hope.
As for JMW's hair - thank goodness someone else noticed it... it looked odd.
Joss, Ridge is such a played out lothario, I can barely pay attention to him anymore. So sick of the "Ridge is the prize" mantra these women spout.
I agree on DD's wardrobe, but I can live with his current threads.
Yay on the recasts, except Rick - I really think it's the material and his acting partners that have left his last few storylines so flat and cheesy.

Darren, I lover you B&B recaps!!!
I saw friday's show and I enjoyed Ric Hearst as Whip and that whole scenario, it was pretty funny. I couldn't sit through Brooke throwing herself at Ridge for the 784th time and Taylor nervously awaiting news if she was still "the chosen one"
I don't understand why they don't recast Thomas with someone who can actually act and who doesn't look like he is 12.

Soapsnob,
I'm a big Don Diamont fan. I just think that the show is doing him a disservice by dressing him like some 1980's porn mogul. He doesn't come off as sexy and suave, just sleazy. I keep expecting him to brag about his large penis or for the camera to pan to a copy of Penthouse on his desk.
Why can't they dress Diamont in high-end men's business attire that is sexy and cutting edge but not sleazy?
There's this incredible British men's fashion designer, Ozwald Boateng, who had a show on the Sundance Channel. Why not dress him in Boateng's clothing? B&B could do a nice cross promotion by having him come visit.
B&B is needlessly infuriating. There's no reason for this show to be as bad as it is.
I'm all for honoring and keeping veteran cast members. I just don't see why their characters can't grow and learn. Ridge, Brooke, and Taylor are dumber than bricks. They repeat the same stupid mistakes, never learning.
We should be grateful that Brooke isn't making a beeline for Nick, her standard fall back man for the last several years. That's one round ping pong we've avoided.

Don Diamont looks like a Vegas pimp, not a billionaire mogul. Change the attire quick. I with you that they need to recast Marcus, Steffy, and Thomas. I wish that Brad would get over his Ridge fixation. We are not that into him anymore and the fans are over it. I love Whip's entrance and Rick Hearst made the show watchable last week. I think that Jackie M's crew is aw with Whip and it was funny. I with you that I beginning to like Katie because she is fun and definitive better than ho Donna. Sorry, but Jennifer G is not doing it for me. She is so lacking in this role. So get rid of Donna ASAP.

I actually think DD looks amazing on this show.
So glad Ric Hearst has joined as whip...
1 thing to make this show great would be to get rid of brooke/ridge/taylor.

Josstheguy,
I ADORE Don Diamont and Heather Tom. However, when I see them on B&B, I gloss over and see Brad and Victoria from Y&R. I know economic times are hard and they are happy to be working. (And I am happy that they are working, too.) That said, their scene on Tuesday’s episode when Bill told Katie not to try and fix him and he walked away, and Katie went over to him and gently caressed his face was, to me, very moving. I felt that scene displayed definitive chemistry between Don and Heather, as well as clearly indicated that Bill and Katie can be a viable couple with rooting value for B&B. Imagine that. (That scene also illustrated what is missing from many daytime dramas – subtext – and it proved that giving two competent actors believable dialogue and appropriate direction can yield magic.) But I, and I am sure it is just me, feel that Don and Heather belong on the show that made them daytime stars. (Not surprising considering my love for Brenda Dickson, huh?)
Don’s “costuming” is distracting, but I feel that decision was made to distance Bill Spencer from Don’s signature character, Bradley Carlton. (I am sure that, like you and I, many Y&R fans are also B&B fans.) Actually, the way that Bill dresses, I can imagine Brad dressing in a similar, scaled-down way in his down/casual time.
Aside from seeing Bradley Carlton dressed as a mid-life-crisis-having, gold-chain wearing, man-bag-carrying sleaze, I think that Bill Spencer’s introduction was clunky and set him up for – almost – failure. In a medium directed towards women, it is insulting to have a man blackmail/coerce/force a woman to sleep with him to save the life/livelihood of the man she truly loves. It is insulting and it is degrading to women and it lacks imagination on the part of the writers as it is OVERLY plot driven. And it needs to stop. (Stepping off soapbox.)
Obviously, I really miss Don and Heather from Y&R, but I am happy to have them on my screen in a story that could be a very pivotal pairing for B&B. Yes, happy to have them on my screen even if it is the current incarnation of B&B. But I feel the show is going to get better. It has to. It just has to.

Soapsnob,
I concur. Making Bill try to force Donna to sleep with him would have made him a near rapist, unworthy of any affection. Women have to deal with sexual harassment in real life. Why would they want to watch it be rewarded on TV?
I'm very happy to have both Heather Tom and Don Diamont on B&B. I understand about separating Bill from Brad but Bill dresses like porn czar not a hip, sexy fashion publisher. He could keep the beard but drop the gold chains and 1980s threads.
Brenda Dickson is awesome. I wish she could find a gig on some program. Her over the top style would be a great addition to B&B as Sally Spectra's sister! She might make a great addition to General Hospital as a Cassadine family member, Nicholas's great aunt?

Siomon,
I like Donna. Sorry, but she's much maligned for no reason.
The biggest "ho" on B&B is Eric. The man has cheated on Stephenie a gazillion times. How many wives has he had in between his reconciliations with Steph?
As for Steph, she's a self-righteous monster who focuses too much attention on her eldest son.
I'll take Donna any day.
Donna & Pam forever!
Vegas Pimp? Hey, pimps are sleazy, scumbags! Saying that they have any resemblance to Dollar Bill is an insult. No pimp looks as sleazy as Bill. Nope. He's definitely Bob Guccione.

Josstheguy, I think that Brad Bell is sexist, sorry, but the way the women on the show are portray as weakling, dumb, can't survive without a man wimps and the man are orge that think that they evolve around them is not making viewers happy.

B&B has been such a hit and miss for me. I really want to like the show. I only watch the Bell Soaps and used to love B&B back in the day when the cast was more then just the Forrestors and the Logans.
I am liking the Jackie M. crew and was glad to see a fashion show again with the Forrestors. I hope they continue to show the two fashion houses going back and forth like they did back in the day with Spectra vs. Forrestor.
I'm glad other people mentioned Steffy's hair. I thought it was a wig but wasn't sure. For some reason Thomas is looking older to me all of a sudden.
I'm holding out hope B&B will be turning around with the addition of Bill Spencer, Whip, and by utilizing Owen more. I really hope Susan Flannery stays on B&B for a long time...because having Stephanie on the show is what makes B&B decent even when the writing is so poor. I'm loving her crazy sister Pam. Donna needs to be back burned more and they need to bring out Thorne or Felicia more and give one or both of them an actual s/l. I still can't believe Brad Bell didn't try and get S. Kanan back on his show as Deacon. S. Kanan is in a better place being on Y&R though. I think he will be much happier across the hall.

A few more thoughts on B&B…
The next BIG couple this show could have is… Clarke and Pam. Dan McVicar and Alley Mills, to me, have chemistry to burn and are hilarious in their scenes together. I would love to see a funny, adult love story written for the two of them.
This may be a controversial suggestion, but B&B SERIOUSLY needs a shot in the arm. And I think that injection could come from the death of Eric or Ridge. I am all for maintaining veteran status on a show, but can you imagine the fresh and organic stories/possibilities that could spring from the death of Eric or Ridge. I lean more towards Eric’s demise as the stories would have ripple effects for everyone on screen as every woman on the show is either Eric’s ex-wife, ex-lover or relative and every man is either Eric’s relative or nemesis due to a romantic relationship.
Also, josstheguy, I like the idea of cross-promotion for these shows. Forrester should have Clinton Kelly from Macy’s on to discuss purchasing items from the Forrester line to sell at Macy’s. We should see these wealthy, upscale L.A. denizens driving Mercedes, Range Rovers and Lexus. We should hear Bill talking about how Eye on Fashion is second only to Vogue in ad sales and maybe even see a real advertisement, i.e., Baby Gap, Ralph Lauren, Revlon, L’Oreal, Jabot Cosmetics
from Eye on Fashion. And at the end of an episode that features an organic product placement, we could hear a voice-over that says, “Today’s episode of B&B is brought to you in part by Lexus.” I guess the only problem with this line of thinking is the possibility to blur the lines of reality for some viewers as they may attempt to by a Forrester Creations original at Macy’s.
And if this were an ABC soap, they probably could.
Oh, the possibilities.

I think B&B is improving. They will NEVER get rid of Brooke, Taylor and Ridge. Well let me back up, they will never get rid of Brooke and Ridge. They already put Taylor out to pasture before. I think Bill Bell sees the love triange between Brooke, Ridge and Taylor and the ongoing fued between Brooke and Stephanie to be the cornerstone of the show (although their fued is not as powerful as it was in the past). He will not mess with history to the point of getting rid of those characters. I still say I would like Brooke to cross over to Y&R for a small stint. Imagine the possibilities! Many people have posted that they give Thorne and Felicia a story line. To Felicia I say YES. To Thorne I say NO. Write him off the show completely. I don't think he is that great an actor and he sticks out like a sore thumb. He has not appealed to me since Macy died. Also, if she is alive, bring Sheila Carter back to torment Stephanie and Taylor. I would love that!
