What's Wrong with Dr. Bob on ATWT?

As the World Turns was able to surprise the viewers today when the Hughes clan gathered at Tom (Scott Holmes) and Margo's (Ellen Dolan) for a surprise party for Casey (Billy Magnussen) who had just been reinstated at Oakdale University. In a scene Bob (Don Hastings) asked Alison (Marnie Schulenburg) out of the blue to bring in the next patient. When asked about it, Bob's excuse was that he was making a joke, but then later he called his wife Kim (Kathryn Hays) "Lisa".
Is this the beginning of an Alzheimer's disease storyline for Bob? Will it give vets like Don Hastings, Kathryn Hays and Eileen Fulton some much deserved airtime? I have to say, I'm intrigued and want to know where this is going. I just hope we won't find out that a microchip is causing Bob's strange behavior...

I haven't followed the show in many years but didn't they start this storyline a few years ago and then drop it?

Didn't Nancy Hughes' last husband suffer from Alzheimer's Disease?
I want Dr. Bob and Kim to have a story, too, but this would be a downer since it would really push Bob out of the hospital. Of course, he's only there these days to take care of some Meg, Paul, or Dusty-related story these days.

Joss, you're right. Nancy's 2nd husband Dan McCloskey had Alzheimer's.
I'm a bit scared of where this will go considering ATWT's track record of riding the plot train, but I'm always willing to hold out hope! I guess it's a good thing Kim likes Lisa. I bet she'd have a cow if he started calling her Susan!

Yes, Nancy Hughes' second husband Dan McCloskey had Alzheimer's in the early 90s.
I hope they aren't going in that direction again. It can only go towards one ending. Here's hoping it's something else.

Speaking of the vets, where is Lucinda?

"Speaking of the vets, where is Lucinda?"
I think we're going to see Lucinda on tomorrow's episode. And she's also supposed to share scenes with Emily.

I want to see the vets, but with Pass-the-Salami in charge, I not counting on it to be a good s/l.

Since the soaps copy each other shamelessly, it is obviously Lyme Disease, per Katherine Chancellor on Y&R.

I for one do NOT want to see an Alzheimer's story for Bob UNLESS it's one that comes with treatment. I still remember Dan McCloskey's awful battle with it and my fear is that daytime will kill off the character. It could be good drama, but this is one of those rare times when I shake my head and say, "No."
As for the last time Bob had memory problems, it was revealed that he didn't have Alzheimer's but had been suffering from a series of mini-strokes, for which he had been put on medication and was under control.

Whoooooa ! I haven't watched this show in a few years but I have to agree with the other posters who say this isn't a good thing if the current headwriting team (and new comer to ATWT David Kreizman) are going to pen an Alzheimer's story for Bob Hughes. What a downer, not to mention the fact that Alzheimer's cannot, I repeat CANNOT be solved within a 2 week storyline ARC. It will be silly if this headwriting team attempts to create a "Forgetful Bob" storyline ARC and wrap it up by August 6 (two weeks).
Surely there are other storylines that they can come up with for Dr. Bob........I want Jeannie (barbara Eden) to BLINK this storyline away...

Oh god, with ATWT rumored to be ending next year, this better not be a part of the last episode. At least with Phillip on GL, he wasn't the patron (yet slightly flawed) saint of the town for 50 years. Dr. Bob has been on ATWT non-stop since Day 1 (and Don Hastings since 1960), please do not let this be the story they are looking to play.

Um, what about chip in the brain like Paul's? lol I'd rather see Bob have a memory lapse and think he's still married to Lisa. lol http://tvtimepodcast.com.

I would be fine if it is a effect from Puals "chip" or if it was what Kay had........

This could be a great story, if it was on One Life to Live or Young and the Restless, but I am very worried with it being on As The World Turns. Truth be told, I would love to see an Alzheimer's storyline that ends with one of the new drugs making the character end ok. Perhaps Victor Newman or Edward Quartermaine. But I am afraid Bob Hughes being in this story on ATWT will wind up going very badly.
