Kelly Monaco On GH's Casting Call For Character: "It's Just Standard Procedure"

General Hospital star Kelly Monaco chatted with Soap Opera Digest and dispelled any fears fans had when the magazine posted on their web site that a casting call was sent out for her alter ego Sam McCall two weeks ago. The actress also clarified thoughts of ongoing drama behind the scenes:
It wasn't even a scare tactic. It's just standard procedure. If my stuff wasn't signed by sometime a.m., then they have to send out a breakdown. I got a call from my boss [Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer] early on in the day saying, 'Don't be alarmed but there's a breakdown going out,' so I knew all about it.
Must be a new plan created at GH after the males on the show re-signed...

Does not sound standard to me. As pointed out they did none of it with the male leads who took their time signing.

Well we know how TPTB treat their actresses - it's a damn shame!!!
But I'm so glad she's staying!! My love of Sam/Kelly is the one thing that's made me stick with GH the last couple of years

LuvSonny I really dont know....the rumor is....
and I am leaving space here for those that are spoiler free....
that it is stavros and it makes sense that it is because they are bringing on mischa, who is supposedly his daughter. I think she is going to have story initially with Ethan and I believe the spoilers say they will "have the sex" (I am still amused by that announcer dude saying that) I dont know if Mischa will be a permanent pairing for Ethan - I cant see it making sense to pair two newbies...that would be FF material I would imagine!

Jamey or Luke...as sort of a PS to my above post, we all worship at the alter of Regan - the best spoiler goddess on the internet, but I am sure I am not the only one trolling for scoop while she is out. Any chance we could just get a thread up with just maybe a general gh pic so that those of us that are hearing stuff have a place to chat until Regan rejoins us? Its a challenge because we all want to be respectful of those that are spoiler free.

As for Kelly Monaco staying, love her or hate her, it's a good thing. I think if she left, plenty of fans would of left with her to. Soaps can't be losing anymore eyeballs.

I don't like Kelly's character, Sam on GH, but I don't think it was fair to have a casting call and not have one for any male actors. I have heard she is a diva--maybe they were tired of her &hit (excuse the language-I couldn't think of a better way to say it).

This is the sort of stuff that irks me. Do you KNOW Kelly? Because it seems to me if you dont then your "she's a diva" comment is just rumor mongering. Go there and then where does it stop...
Plus have you ever tried to put a complicated contract in place? Sometimes it takes time, diva behavior or no diva behavior.

Why oh why do they have to continually tease me this way? I was happy for at least 9 hours after this story broke...then pffft.
I don't even think it was about Kelly...I think it was about generating interest in the character so they could catch as many viewers with the JaSam Screwapalooza.
