Austin Peck Clarifies ATWT Demise: "It Was Story-Driven"

As the World Turns' Austin Peck talked with Michael Fairman in the latest edition of Soapside at the Advocate.com and clarified the circumstances surrounding his exit.
I spoke with Austin this week. He wanted to clarify that his ATWT demise has nothing to do with his being "fired."“I think when people see what is coming up with the story line [which facilitates my exit from the show] they will see that there was a lot of time and effort put into it. It was not a, 'Hey, we need to get rid of somebody.' It was story-driven, and it is just sad that my character has to be at the end of it. I think it’s the best story line I have seen them do in a long time, and some of the best work I have seen Terri Colombino [Katie] do for a long time. Julie Pinson [Janet] and Michael Park [Jack] also are terrific, as you will see. ... And while at the same time I am flattered to be a part of it, I am sad that I ended up on the cutting room floor! Everybody at the show has been loving, kind, and supportive, and they have expressed their shock and bewilderment at the decision by the show to end Brad. They have been really kind to me.”

Hmmm... I dunno. I smell something funny here. If the media wanted to talk to me exclusively about why I was no longer working somewhere, I certainly wouldn't sit there and tell them all the things I'd done wrong while working there. I'd play up how great things are/were and how nice everyone was to me. That is, I would if I knew prospective employers might be reading it and I wanted to get hired by someone else without arriving on the set with the reputation of being a homewrecker, a morale killer/cast divider, and someone who cheats on their wife. I think I smell the spin.

Sorry, am not buying it at all. When on DAYS, he was referred to as "Ausdumb Pecs" -- the nickname still fits. He had a bad reputation in Salem, and that played itself out again in Oakdale. He couldn't act in Salem, and for sure he can't act in Oakdale. Good riddence to what's not needed in town. Spin it all you want Ausdumb, but you just didn't cut it -- the ORIGINAL Brad was fabulous; this one plain stunk.

Right, storyline driven. Hmm, keep telling yourself that Austin and it might come true.

I'm not up on all the gossip - did we ever end up finding out who he had an affair with and why he was the one that took the fall for it?

I want to know too, isn't that sad, LOL. I feel bad because ATWT will be off the air by next year unless they get rid of Meg, Alison, Teri and get back Hunt Block and Martha Byrne.

Days is full, but maybe AMC needs to eye candy when Cameron mathison and Thorsten Kaye leaves the show.

I heard that he had an affair with Terri Colombino, who also happens to be married. I just know I didn't like him as Brad and am not sad to see him go.

Story driven? They fired him. He cannot act and I will not miss him.
