All My Children Was ABC's Most Watched Soap The Week of Oct. 19-23

You win some, you lapse some. After the boffo week soaps had during the last, holiday-spiked ratings cycle, things are pretty much back to normal. (Source: SONThe Young and the Restless lost 253,000 total viewers, and dropped one-tenth of a point in households and among women 18-49. The Bold and the Beautiful lost basically the same amount as its big sister sudser, shedding 250,000 total viewers. B&B also went down one-tenth of a point in households, but held steady among women 18-49. The steadily improving—creatively at least—As The World Turns lost the least amount of viewers for CBS, dropping 103,000 total viewers. ATWT held steady (in last place) in both major demos. If you aren't watching As The World Turns, you are missing out on classic, heart-wrenching soapy goodness. No, I'm not kidding. More to come in a blog post this weekend!

Days of Our lives lost 37,000 total viewers over the week, yet is still up, a whopping 346,000 viewers year-to-date. DAYS held steady in households, but dipped by one-tenth of a point among women 18-49.

Over at the Mouse House, All My Children was the number one soap in total viewers and households.  AMC was also the only soap on the dial to go up in total viewers for the week, adding 68,000 watchers. AMC also held steady in households and among women 18-49. That sound you hear is Chuck Pratt sticking his thumbs in his ears, while yelling "Nana nana na na!" while sticking out his forked tongue at bloggers like me.

Flagship ABC soap General Hospital lost a measly 15,000 total viewers, and held steady in households and among women 18-49, tied at number two with DAYS in the latter, coveted demo. Finally, another depressing week for daytime's best soap opera. One Live to Live lost 75,000 total viewers. Less than 50,000 total viewers separated OLTL from daytime's least watched soap opera As The World Turns for the week. OLTL held steady in households, yet dropped one-tenth of a point among the coveted 18-49 demo. Come on people, WATCH ONE LIFE TO LIVE!

AMC, top ABC soap this week?
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I have not watched a full episode of AMC in about a week. I actually feel better about myself.
It has to be the Zendall reunion, other than that I have no clue why.
GH has been really good lately.
OLTL is the same old same old.

The problem with GH is the waiting for the sweeps time...
the lead up was not that good only this week it was getting to the edge ..
GH is very good at the moment and I have a feeling that this week there will be a rise in the ratings

Well, sure, with a picture of Chrishell front and center like that, I would watch AMC, too! Wink And I KNOW what a craptacle that show is these days!

"AMC Was ABC's Most Watched Soap..."

There are so many things wrong with that sentence, I honestly don't know where to begin. *headinhands*

I can agree that this week on GH the ratings will see a boost and it should coincide with the return of Mr. Jackson. Where the ratings go after that is anyone's guess, like usual sweeps will bring in the viewers but just like the carnival some viewership will fall off.

I for one cannot wait for what is in store for the next few weeks what with the return of JJ, the short stint of Franco, and the pieces falling into place with the Dante reveal and Niz revelation. That is enough to get me through my pain of CarJax breaking up, and still being subjected to dim Alexis and the ridiculousness that is Jason and Sham Wow

I just don't get it! How can anyone sit through an hour of AMC without wanting jump off a bridge. To each their own, I guess. Pratt will never be fired.

Jamey, OLTL is NOT daytimes, best soap opera!!!!! Why are people still watching OLTL... the storytelling is poor, the characters are barely recognizable, the acting is inconsistent, and nothing happens, nothing ever happens. I agree with Keanna, it's the same old same old. Ron and company have done some amazing things but I haven't seen anything new in a while. Keyword: new! The show is worse off than during the writer's strike and the Higley administration. OLTL needs new showrunners if it wants to stay on the air. Ron and Co. have had sufficient time to turn the ship around but the show is sinking! AMC and OLTL tie as the Mouse House's worst soaps. Watch GH though because at least that has improved!!!!!

Wow...I am really getting tired of people bashing AMC when they uhh, DONT EVEN WATCH ANYMORE. If you don't watch, how can you so harshly judge the show? What a joke. Going off what people say is obviously what is happening here.

It's as if people focus only on the negatives with this show when it in fact has SO MANY positive things going on that you don't even notice........

OLTL is NOT the best soap on TV. There isnt one. Thats a joke in itself. And the fact that it is favored here is a joke. Every soap has flaws and bad parts. Whatever man.

So we can't bash AMC, but you can bash OLTL. I see. (I'd be curious to know what you don't like about OLTL.)

I don't know what you expect. This is a message board. Opinions are what this is all about. Do you want only opinions that agree with you? Not very realistic, in my opinion.

I can only speak for myself. After 30 years, I stopped watching AMC when Stuart was murdered (not that long ago), because it had gotten so bad, I was grinding my teeth through the show.

I still stay in touch with a small group of friends who maintain a private, little AMC message board, and I trust all of their opinions. They have vowed to let me know when the show (or anything about the show) improves. I'm still waiting. They (the faithful, the hooked) are still watching everyday and I am looking forward to the day when they say it's safe to return.

Is that okay with YOU, AllmyDaysatGh???

AllmyDaysatGH...I have been watching...I keep threatening to "break-up" with AMC - I even call it my bad boyfriend LOL - so I think I can fairly say the show is a mess. It certainly isnt better than GH which has been on FIRE lately between the awesome JaSam reunion and romance, the Carnival, the shootout with Jerry Jax, better cast integration, better family drama, etc. etc.

AMC has some things that work - I still love Zendall even though the story sometimes is just beyond stupid - no one recognized that the girl in prison isnt the real Kendall despite being a hit author and all the tabloid covers as Erica Kane's daughter, Kendall never recognized the door that goes to the panic room in her own house etc. etc. I love David and the triangle with David trying to get in between Jake and Amanda again despite the silliness of the story - I get he is the black hat, but Jake and Amanda faked the death of his son and EVERYONE thinks he is the bad guy, you would think at least his daughter or morally challenged Liza would have taken his side, and dont get me started on Tad and Taylor leaving the baby unattended. I even like the budding relationships between Annie and Scott and Brot and Natalie. But all that potential isnt enough to overcome all the weak spots. If even the good stories are uneven at best, what does that make the crappy stories. Adam, Jessie and Angie - 3 of their most important, most memorable characters on the show - havent seemed like themselves in eons. Ryan is dating a woman he has always thought of as a mother figure - ICK. Adam is dating someone young enough to be his granddaughter. Liza whines about her baby every other conversation she has, but the baby spends all its time with Colby. And then there is Mr. Clean and FauxBabe or should I call her Babelite. The acting is so unbelievable bad its like they both went to the William Shatner as Captain Kirk school of acting. I...am....NOT....mad....at YOU....but...at the CAN...cer. UGGH Not to mention Tad playing house with KWAK and every couple of weeks going into that I got shot in the brain maniacal laugh. HUH??? The dialog is usually terrible and the plot points are so obvious they practically wear a billboard.

I agree with the poster who pegs the ratings increase to Zendall's reunion, so I guess this begs the question - what happens if AM and TK actually bolt? If the show loses Chrishelle on top of it I think AMC is in serious serious trouble, Rebecca Budig or no Rebecca Budig.

Now that said - I agree OLTL is very same old same old. My biggest problem with OLTL is that no matter how good it gets with some stories, it too has too many craptastic storylines. I have always found OLTL to be very uneven. For every Kish then have a Dorians Big Fat Greek (gay) Wedding story. For every sweet Cristian and Layla romance they have a boring Marty and John lurking around or a women want to date a rapist story for Todd. The difference is that OLTL is at times excellent, something I cant say about AMC.

IMHO though neither of these shows come close to GH. GH went through a down period but its been downright must see tv for months now. I am a few days behind on OLTL, a few days behind on AMC, but all caught up on GH. I watch that before I even watch the primetime shows I have dvred. Hell I have even taken to all FFing through about half of the LizardBreath scenes and thats saying something - even though she is still the worst character on ABC, I am enjoying waiting and hoping for her to finally get the comeupence she so richly deserves.

OLTL is not the best soap anymore. Todd/Blair/Tea are super annoying. Blair looks so pathetic that it's actually hard to watch her. When she has someone like Ross walk into her hospital room to see how she's doing, I would have been like Todd who? And the evil things Tea is doing keeping Ross from seeing his daughter. When she hit him on the head with that vase, all my love for Tea flew out the window. This storyline is getting horrid.

Also Greg/Rachel/Shaun. This is just as terrible. Besides Rachel, there isn't anyone to root for. I like Shaun but he's a horrible actor and I don't even want to get on Greg. He's just a pretty face, nothing more.

This whole gay storyline is terrible. Dorian pretending to be gay to marry a woman devoid of personality? It's horrible. Nick is not a likeable character. Gay or not, people hate to be pushed into things.

Bo and Nora taking Matthew to that school. The only good thing about that storyline is Destiny and David hanging together. That little girl can actually act around him.

I still enjoy AMC and I dont think its a bad show. Oh wait, if I defend AMC a certain super defensive poster above will attack me. Im not going in circles with him again. Yay AMC!! keep up the good work.

Though i do worry that once Zendall is gone the show will suffer tremendously

I am happy to see any of the soap's ratings go up. Do I understand why AMC is doing better. No I don't. I have watched this show for 30 years and I think it's pretty awful right now. What bothers me as much as the writing is the bad acting. At least 1/3 of the cast are just barely adequate or downright horrible.

The only thing that I think Pratt has done right is to utilize more of the cast (even if they can't act). For awhile it was just the Fab 5/6 every freaking day for a couple years. I wasn't crazy about some of them in the first place--now I can't stand them. (Except Annie--she's one of my faves)

If you want to watch a soap that recently did a 180 for the better--tune into ATWT. Plus--a cast of really good actors.

Unfounded???? Zack and Kendall, the soap's most popular current couple have been separated for months by a contrived, plot driven, cockamamie storyline, that has seen the intended killer be changed at least three tirmes. Veterans are supporting actresses who can barely act, who are allowed to drive story, a child is being given line after line about murder, lying, coverups, which would cause any child psychologist to bristle, a beloved character has been killed off, while another beloved character is now the murderer of his own brother and conscience, how are our rants unfounded. Our only agenda is good soap. If AMC was good, we would say so, but it isn't. It's dreadful. Worst ever seen in daytime television, yet Brian Frons has decided to put forth an effort to save it over the much better in quality and direction One Life to Live. A diverse, multigenerational soap opera, that comes in under budget and is written and produced by people who actually care about their show and don't insult their actors weekly in the press. I won't apologize for my stance, because I know that only one can survive. Too many people in the know have told me so, and I will keep shouting to the roof tops that if it comes down between All My Children and One Life to Live, One Life should be the soap to survive.  Oh, and I did watch this past week, and guess what, it's even worse. Dark, ugly sets, Kendall stuck with Aidan. That child talking about murder. David trying to force himself on Amanda yet again. This show is obscene and asinine.

Hi, Jamey!

I completely agree with your comments, and from what I'm reading there doesn't seem to be any improvement in the near future for AMC. The story lines for the upcoming weeks are sub par. OLTL on the other hand is fantastic, especially in the use of its veteran actors and making it truly an ensemble cast. The writers have a terrific grasp of the show's history as well. What a pity if ABC axes this wonderful show. It sounds as if for whatever reason politics are at play here. What a shame. The quality of the production should be celebrated, not vilified.

I have to agree with just about every negative statement made about OLTL....So imagine how bad AMC must be for it to still be creatively running circles around it.OLTL has budget problems,AMC has spiritual ones...lol.

To the person who wants to know why we're still bitching if we're not watching....It's because even the shows spoilers suck!!! You can read a whole spoiler wall full of suck....OK.

GH rocks my world right now.Still hate Guza/Frons...this is only a probationary thing. Been burned too many times by these guys. This show has sucked so bad for so long i'm still too afraid to get excited over it.

I wish soap opera writers would let it sink in MOTHERS do not wish to see baby death, premature baby, kidnapped baby, baby illness,or psycho baby storylines EVER AGAIN!!! Try something new.Over it.

Jamey,
Thank You. Exactly what you said...lol.

Ok here is my thing with the ABC soaps.

I started out hearing OLTL was the shit and the best soap.

So I watch One Life to live and I like it, hate AMC still that show has been in a constant funk since June of 2005, and GH was never my type of soap.

Since my beloved GL is now off the air I have been watching all these shows yes all of them and I find AMC to still be the woorst of the ABC soaps, but OLTL is not the best it is GH. I do not know what happened on GH but that show seems so SOAP-BALANCED. Im not talking about the mob( I like that aspect), but the storytelling is mixed and large gatherings just good soap.

OLTL had this Dorian Wedding and it was good; alot of background people and main characters and the sets look great. Plus OLTL has been the best soap at giving all the stories whether I like them or not more balanced time.

I do not think OLTL is a bad soap far from it, One life is building story, and really starting to come together while still starting new stories. I get that some see OLTL as "nothing happenes", it is that old trick call "building story". Every scene has a point. It is just not in the very dramatic point yet, but I feel it is coming.

AMC- I think that show could go somewhere if they had good writers. So many scenes seem pointless and the show does not seem to fit together.
