Gratuitous, Half Frontal Nudity in Episode 11 of WORKSHOP!

There are only three episodes left of the first season of WORKSHOP, the hilariously-real webcom written and produced by Nate Golon and Kimberly Legg, and co-starring Passions alum Phillip Jeanmarie! In episode 11, Matthew gets reamed by his agent for being both amazingly-talented, and his own worst enemy (Boy do I know several soap thesps who need to hear the ass chewing Matt's agent gives him!); Adam (Jeanmarie) decides to take back control of his career after deciding he can no longer take all the buzz from his smash hit dance promo; Blonde bombshells Sarah and Vivian await to see who gets the role they are both up for; Jeff (Golon) makes a career move (and shows some skin around the 4: 10 mark!) and Kaitlyn (Legg) invites Jeff to dinner. Will she finally admit her true feelings for Jeff, or will a certain annoying, teenage gnat ruin everything?

I enjoyed the episode but the camera work was too shaky. Why no steady cam?

It's called a shoe-string budget Josstheguy, LOL. These guys did this without sponsorship, or even a real budget. Guiding Light had a shaky camera and it was sponsored by a billion dollar corporation and aired on a major network. As long as the story is interesting, funny and realistic I can deal.

Hi josstheguy, I actually created an account on here just now to answer your question. We purposely wanted the camera to be a little shaky for a more real feeling. Zooming in for reaction shots, etc. Also, like Jamey said, our budget was pretty low, so we did what we could afford. Smile - Nate

I enjoyed this very good. In your opinion, Jamey, which web shows/soaps are worth my time? I havent really seen any of them except IB.

Nate,

Thanks for replying to my comment. It's great to hear from one of the show's creators!

As I said, enjoyed the episode. I didn't feel that the shakiness occurred throughout the show just in one or two scenes.

I understand about a low budget. Frankly, I thought the show looked great in general. It looked broadcast quality. (Actually, it looks a lot better than some of the shows on network TV done on the cheap these days. The late Guiding Light was pretty its first year using digital cameras and the new Let's Make a Deal looks horrendous.)

Congratulations again on a great series.

Thanks very much for the kind words. Smile We were learning as we went, so I am pretty happy with the final product based on what we had to work with. I am in development of Season 2 right now, and if we can find a little bit of money, I think the sky is the limit for our show! We would of course really love to turn it into a half hour comedy if given the chance. If you haven't seen the prior episodes, be sure to check them out at http://WORKSHOPtheseries.com. Thanks! - Nate

Gato1, Imaginary Bitches and WORKSHOP are the only full season web serials I have followed. IB of course is one of my favorite shows watched on any screen, while I have been very impressed with the first season of WORKSHOP and can't wait for season two! The pilot of Life in General/Greenville General was amazing, but since the creator Karen Harris actually paid full WGA, SAG, Aftra, etc. dues, she is having to seek out sponsorship to do more. I really enjoyed the first eppy of Wed-Locked, the new series from Guiding Light alums Lawrence Saint-Victor and Karla Mosley. It's sort of a mocha Mad About You, or Cliff and Claire: The Early Years. I have recently gotten hooked on Empire, a slightly-cheesy soap opera in the style of the 80's soaps that is an admitted guilty pleasure. The acting makes Passions look like Masterpiece theater, and the writing is a bit over the top, but the story sucks you in, and of course, I cannot wait for the debuts of Venice, from Crystal Chappell, Gotham from Martha Byrne and Reality Bytes from Tristan Rogers! If you want to check out a ton of web shows, go to Strike.tv, they have a ton of high quality, amazing shows.
