Lucky Break: GH Spiked in Ratings the Week of Jonathan Jackson's Return
Like the usual state of Lily Snyder's menstrual cycle, I'm a bit late with my ratings column this week (Source: SON), but don't worry, I didn't tumble down any stairs, nor was I kidnapped to Malta. ABC Daytime's General Hospital had a Lucky week Oct. 26-30, 2009. GH gained 163,000 total viewers, and went up two-tenths of a ratings point in households. GH also went up one-tenth of a point among women 18-49. Tied with GH in households is sister sudser All My Children, the serialized trainwreck added 52,000 total viewers. AMC is up one-tenth of a ratings point in households and held steady among women 18-49. One Life to Live also saw an increase in total viewers, even if the bump was as slight 28,000. OLTL held steady in households and among women 18-49. OLTL is tied with AMC in the most coveted demo, while GH is a full three-tenths of a ratings point ahead of the other two Mouse House soaps in the demo. AMC has the distinction of being the only soap on ABC up year-to-date for the ratings period.
NBC's Days of Our Lives lost 43,000 total viewers, but was still up year-to-date 252,000 viewers. DAYS held steady in households, but went up one tenth of a ratings point in the all-important women 18-49 demo.
CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless dropped 52,000 total viewers over the previous week. Y&R is still up 298,000 total viewers year to date, however. Daytime's number one soap dropped one tenth of a ratings point in households, and held steady among women 18-49. Sister sudser The Bold and the Beautiful proved it doesn't always have to rely on Y&R's lead in. B&B gained 36,000 total viewers. B&B held steady in households, yet dropped one-tenth of a point among women 18-49, tying its all-time low in that demo. The soap analysts believe is in most danger of receiving the axe next, As The World Turns, went up 60,000 total viewers over the previous week. ATWT is also up year-to-date 37,000 viewers. Last place ATWT held steady in households and among women 18-49.

Like a lot of people I watch because JJ came back.
It was impossible for me to keep watching, I quit one year ago and frankly having sobered myself from that drivel, I cannot stomach it anymore.
So yes I quit again, good look for the one still watching it, we can get use to anything!

I'm so close to giving up on GH to timepass, if it wasnt for JJ coming back I just don't know if I could continue to watch it. Some people may like the mob stuff and more power to them. I'm just getting tired of it, I think I need a break.

Speaking of GH's opening, watched GH on Soapnet the other night and GV is in that opening, but not in the one that airs daily on ABC. I know this doesn't have a point, but what's up with that?

Monday 10.26 to Friday 10.30 they only gained 84,000 viewers
and still powered out at 4th
ranked 4th its the first week they stayed in the solid 2s in quite some time so I would say they both equally had a positive effective on this week ....
the acting has been phenomenal its the storylines that suck for me...I didn't see Michael kill Claudia but I did see Sara's magnificent performance w/Maurice on Thursday.

I figured GH's ratings would spike once JJ came back, we will see how the ratings are once JF appears. I also agree that anyone watching AMC must be on something. As for OLTL a slight bump is better than no bump at all.

OLTL is great! No complaints there. Don't watch anything else other than GH so I cannot nor will I comment on them.
GH is great right now. While some storylines are a tad stupid most are actually good. A side from the Michael shooting storyline and lack of The Q's and Scrubs I have no issues.
I pray that once the Claudia thing goes away Scrubs will get something meaty to play.
JJ being back is amazing. I got chills when they showed him freak out at Liz about her sleeping with Nik. Then I was in shock when he shot his brother. Ugh! Why did it have to be a figment of her imagination? It would have been awesome. I am more than ever eager to see the Spencer/Casadine Fued started again. The heat between JJ and TC was electric back in the day. I cannot wait to see it again.
Carly throwing Jax out and running into Jason's hand is vintage classic Carly. My biggest problem with the storyline is where was Bobbie? I love seeing Lady Jane but where in the world was Bobbie during all of this? I mean she can show up for Liz and Lucky but not her daughter? I wanna hear Carly say hey Momma what do I do? LOL!
Great job GH! Keep up the great work and get it all together. IE: New opening please!
Lastly don't kill Emily off again. I realize that many hate Rebeca but if they are bringing Zander back for the Emily endgame scenario that leaves all hope the GH will undo the bad and bring Emily back from the dead. It is highly unlikely that will happen but if they do it only to have Natalia leave the canvas then they have totally jumped the shark. The return of Zandar could be great for story telling. The idea of Cam's real daddy being back would be awesome!

I agree with the ratings going up because of the Claudia story coming to an end. I absolutely do not get the JJ love. He looks like a little kid and delivers his lines so morosely I have started to fast forward through any scene he does. He is just not my cup of tea, so to speak.

Well here in Ohio GH has always been on at the same time as Gl. So rather than let CBS have my ratings, I have switched to GH. I doubt that I am the only GL viewer to do this. Just Sayin!

I wouls just like to applaud As The World Turns. It has kept my attention for a good two weeks since I started back watching, and I am really enjoying it. Still sad I don't get to visit Springfield after Oakdale, but oh well. Keep it up World Turns. You're rockin'.

days is gonna be up for this week. the truth about the baby swap is drawing back all those people who have left. i was getting my hair cut today and we stopped in the middle of the cut just to watch days today. great stuff coming!
i think Sarah Brown leaving the show & the reveal about the secret was the real ratings boost. i don't have any beef w/ JJ but he still looks & talks like a teenager. i did love the fantasy where he shot nik. it was great. the writers are still giving lucky some crappy material. they need to work on that.

I agree with those that credit the GH increase to the SJB storyline. I do hope that people are curious to see what JJ is going to do with the role and stay with gh. Anything that raises ratings gets a thumbs up for me. I would like to see the numbers go back to where they were before the writers lost their collective minds and had not one but two of their leading ladies harm children. I think the show is getting there!

These ratings are from Oct. 26-30, the week JJ returned. Claudia last appeared on Nov 6, if GH spikes the week of Nov. 2-6 it will be because of Claudia's climax.

GH went up another 54K the week of Nov 2nd-6th and THAT you can attribute to SB leaving. GH almost beat out DAYS last week and that would have been somewhat huge for them. But moving on, I can't believe how fast OLTL is tanking. Their Nov 2nd-6th ratings were terrible!

GH is on fire. Besides Dexter Jr running around town terrorizing people, I like everything going on. Sick of Jax and his ongoing need to takedown Sonny. Carly and her crying. But otherwise I love this show.
NIZ is great!!!LnL2 is amazing. Love the flashbacks. Thank gawd for the Niz/LnL2 storyline.
Also GH please don't ruin Lante. Don't turn Lulu back into "The Shrew"

Yes, JJ was the early part of the week, but wasnt Claudia's "birthday party" the latter half of the week. JJ was part of Monday tuesday, but the big story that week was the lead up to Claudia getting busted which rolled over into the next week where the ratings continued to go up. JMHO

For me, Claudia's demise wasn't that big of a deal (except for the exceptional acting of SJB/MB) The Claudia character was mishandled she could have been and should have been so much more in the end as this testosterone driven show usually does she's blubbering about a baby as all women wind up so it was boring..
for me the anvils were thick and it was just another of them whacking a villan...however I tuned in steady for Jonathan's return and continue to watch mainly because of him...so for me Jonathan got me back in it. Franco I will watch but am not jazzed up because he's goinig to be a hit man so its more Mobspittal to come. What interest me more is the stories that will be playing against him.
I know that storyline has preferred writing but if the other stories are crappy around it that will also be picked up by the media that their courting so GH needs to step it up all around...I'm waiting for Robin to get a good one now.
