How Would You End As the World Turns?

Over the next several months, there will be good and bad articles about the cancellation of As the World Turns. This one is a bit different. For all those who write fan fiction (and for those who don't) the Sacramento Bee posed these questions to readers,

If you're a fan of the families and friends living in Oakdale, Ill., where ATWT is set, how do you see the fates of the show's characters unfolding in the next nine months?

And while you're at it, please let us know where you come down on this question: Would viewers (even those who record their favorite daytime shows to watch in the evening) prefer real-life discussions of trysts and trauma, surgery and survival (Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil) over made-up murder and mayhem?

What's knocking around in your brains? Juice up your creativity and share your ideas with us in the comments!

I don't watch Let's Make a Deal. I have never watched talk shows or game shows. I prefer to get lost in a story that I know has no effect on real life. Talk shows are full of idiots who parade themselves in front of a camera for fame. Sad.

That being said, I believe As the World Turns should end with the vets looking back on the good days. I would love to see Lisa get a story before the end. The same for Bob and Kim.

The final words should be spoken by Helen Wagner since she had the first line on the show (good morning, dear)

I would love to hear her say "good night" at the end of the show.

"turned".... in his creepy mind.... and that is what we were seeing..... James fetal mind developing and then child is born into this world!!!!!.... well you asked!

Interesting that the Sacramento Bee posed these questions to 'soap fans'....Sacramento stopped airing Guiding Light back in 1992 when the local CBS affiliate dumped the show in order to broadcast the Joan Rivers talk show.  Sacramento isn't a big 'soap' town...I don't think the local NBC affiliate carried Another World in its final years.

How to end ATWT ?  Well I would love to see Julianne Moore back as Frannie for one last visit, maybe even Marisa Tomei and Meg Ryan (yes, I'll take a pillow with that dream).

I know for sure I want Carly and Jack reunited, also if they can keep him or bring him back Simon and Katie.

I do not want it to end like GL with everything rushed in the last few episodes with everyone all happy and loving like the Brady Bunch.  I just hope they do this show justice in the end.

I would like to see more vets return since they started the show like Penny & Jeff they were the first supper couple, and John Dixon and Betsy & Steve, youngsters ask your folks or check out youtube. use the vets more. ATWT is popular in the Midwest Kansas back when couldn't get ABC. I just can't start watching another soap I tried to watch GH. But just don't know the characters and their past. I don't wanted to end at all.

SAVE THE WORLD.

When ATWT ends, I won't be watching any more daytime TV.  I've never watched talk shows or game shows.  After watching Search, Capitol, and GL end, this will be my last soap.

I'd like to end with Nancy saying, "Good night, dear."

Before it goes, I'd like to see family get-togethers that bring back for the Hugheses Penny, Frannie, Sabrina, Andy, Chris, Lien, and Adam.  Throw in Betsy, Dani, Scott, and John and I wouldn't be happier.

I'd also like to see Lucinda gather her family and the Snyders together:  Sierra, Lucy, Bianca, Sam, Kirk, Royce, Conner, Evan, Seth, Caleb, Aaron, Julie, Ellie, Iva, Cal, and Martha Byrne as Lily.

And I'd really like to see them all raise a glass to Irna and Douglas.

I would end with Nancy Hughes saying "Good night dear" since she spoke the first words on the show which were "Good morning dear".

I will not be watching whatever they replace ATWT with when it goes off the air.  I do not watch Let's Make a Deal when it replaced GL and I won't watch any of whatever garbage they put on in place of ATWT.  There is already far too many judge shows, advice shows and game shows on TV.  Don't ever get me started on "reality" shows.  There is nothing like a little escape with my soaps.

I agree with the suggestion that Helen Wagner should, absolutely, positively have the closing line-Good night, dear.  Hopefully, they can bring back some old favorites on a short term basis to help close the show.  Seeing Ed and Holly, Vanessa and Billy, Mindy with Rick and so on on GL was the one bright spot in the otherwise depressing end of the GL era.

First off Talk shows, game shows, and whatever crap they want to replace ATWT (or any soap) is stupid. Their are so many crummy talk shows and games shows airing already.... it's a flooded market. they come and go fast. (example: The Bonnie Hunt Show)

I want to see the Hughes family more, maybe have Chris return, and other Hughes from the past, def would love to see Julianne Moore return for an episode or two. It would be nice if Bob and Kim renew their vows. Lisa also needs to find another man so she can get married again! Their HAS to be a Carly and Jack wedding, and this time we have to know its for real! Other than that i do not know how to end ATWT because i can't imagine it not continuing. ATWT got me into soaps and it is the last one i will watch! ( I started watching soaps in 2006, first ATWT, then Passions, then GL) I have no soaps left.

First off, i read an interview with Chris Goutman on another site where he stated they have no intention of wrapping things up.  They plan on going full steam ahead as if they are going to be picked up by another network.

NOT GONNA HAPPEN, Procter and Gambel killed Guiding Light and now they effectively killed As the World Turns.

They need to wrap up all the peripheral storylines, like this retarded Mick story, get rid of Maddie and Hunter, Janet's sister, Damian and anything unrelated to the core families.

As a gay man I can appreciate the greatness that is the Luke and Noah storyline, but how many tragedys and mishaps can these guys go through and its almost as if they are neutered. Give them a hot love scene before the show ends.

Jack and Carly need to be brought back together slowly over the next few months, not within minutes like Josh and Reva on GL.  They are the true super couple of this show.

Id like to see Katie end up on her own and in a good place, too much emphasis has been made with her and the revolving door of men in her life.  When the show ends she should be a happy single mom.

Im torn between Henry ending up with Vienna or Barbara, i never expected to enjoy Barbara and Henry as a couple but I love him with Vienna

In the end, Barabara and Craig may be a nice rematch.  Or maybe Meg and Craig.

If I had my way Martha Byrne would come back as Lily for the final few months, not because I dont like the new one, but because it seems right with the show ending.
Obviously, Lily and Holden belong together.

Janet and Liberty need to go sooner rather than later, i like them both but theres no room for them at the end.

Paul and Emily are pretty great together, a final mystery that brings back familiar faces would be nice.  There are so many great past characters that can be intertwined in the final months with the proper story.

Allison and Casey should get married toward the end.  Id like to see more of Susan as well, she was always great.

Margo and Tom need some screen time as well.

Elizabeth Hubbard is the most underused actress on this show, Lucinda should get a nice little story arc and a proper sendoff

and I agree with everyone else, Nancy Hughes needs to have the closing line of the show.

In the end Id hate to see another show go off the air with the same whimper Guiding Light did.  CBS and TELENEXT and P&G should have enough respect for the fans to give these shows a proper sendoff.  I have been watching ATWT and GL for as long as I can remember, im a 3rd generation viewer and while I can respect a business decision I cannot respect the blatant disregard of longtime viewers and the history of these shows.

I know Im dreaming when I say a box set dvd for GL and ATWT featuring scenes from past episodes and a proper tribute should be made available for purchase.

Have a big party in honor of Nancy Hughes and have everyone be happy and Nancy will say, "Goodbye Friend".

#1--First and foremost, should Helen Wagner survive until June when the show wraps, she should most definitely have the last line of the show.

#2--I agree, the cast should all raise a glass to Irna Phillips and Douglas Marland (the Marland part would piss the current writing regime and most certainly Chris Goutman as well, but heck, they are part of the reason that this show is being canceled).

#3--And a sign held up at the very end that says, "Screw you Les Moonves!"
