HomeTVBravoDC Exclusive: Victoria Rowell Speaks on Those Real Housewives of Atlanta Rumors Jamey Giddens December 17, 2009 24 Comments The Internet is abuzz with speculation that former soap opera diva Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, The Young and the Restless) is set to join the cast of the smash hit Bravo reality series The Real Housewives of Atlanta, possibly replacing either Nene Leakes or Kim Zolciak, who are rumored to be causing Bravo distress by constantly asking for more cash. The rumblings about Rowell possibly joining the reality soap started when urban celebrity blogger FreddyO posted the following item on his website on Dec. 16: I have to tell yall, the entire ATL is going crazy to find out who is going to be the Next Atlanta House Wife. Several sources have told me that the one and only queen of day time television Victoria Rowell is going to be the newest wife to be added to the show, but nothing is set in stone just yet. She is best known for two high profile television roles: Drucilla Winters on the daytime drama The Young and the Restless, and her primetime role as Dick Van Dyke’s medical examiner, Dr. Amanda Bentley, on Diagnosis: Murder. I have been told that Bravo is looking at Victoria because she is full of drama and loves to fight. I have to tell yall, after working with people that have worked for her, “She would be the right one for the job”. They say ”she’s crazy, funny, and made for TV”. My only question is I didn’t know she lived in Atlanta. After hearing about this from my ever-tweeting homegirl Jillian Bowe, I decided to find out myself. I called up Ms. Rowell, make that Mrs. Bailey, since she is now married to Radcliffe Bailey, a famed artist, collected by the likes of Elton John, who is based in Atlanta, where Rowell, the mother of two, and a stepmother to Bailey’s children, does in fact divide her time between her fabulicious home in L.A. "As you know Jamey, in my career as an entertainer I get solicited to do quite a number of things," Rowell began coyly with a giggle, "whether it be to write reviews for a fellow author’s book, or participate in reality programing. The question has been posed from time to time about me joining the Housewives franchise, whether it be in Atlanta or somewhere else. As you know, I now spend a lot time in Atlanta. I know the fans would love to see me on television again, whether it be on a soap opera or as a real housewife of Atlanta. So, you know, we’ll see. I always say, never say never!" Well, now you’ve heard it from the diva’s mouth! Keep checking back with Daytime Confidential as the story continues to develop. In the meantime, don’t forget to pre-order your copy of Rowell’s upcoming juicy novel, Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva at Amazon.com. Log in to Reply robinstar December 17, 2009 Love it! Too bad she is replacing NeNe cause I would have loved to see that catfight. Although, I’m not sure you can call it "replacing’ when she is much more fabulous to begin with. Log in to Reply Smitty December 17, 2009 I love Victoria Rowell and Jamey I figured you all were working on this. when I got home from work and saw it on Mediatakeout.com I thought…WTF…OH my jesus this would be good! I’ll watch Victoria Rowell on anything. I love the coyness. It amazes me how she can cause a stir no matter what and that’s a good thing for me! If we can’t have her back on Y&R I would gladly take her on RHOA! They even talked about her this morning on The Russ Parr Morning Show! Keep yourself in the news Victoria Rowell and continue to show Y&R what good press they are missing out on! Log in to Reply Freerhythm December 17, 2009 please, Victoria, DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Rowell too, and have enjoyed her in many things, not only her TV work, but check out her brief (but engaging) scene in "Eve’s Bayou" and her excellent work in Anne Rice’s "The Feast of All Saints". She’s beautiful, sexy, classy, and an excellent actress….I want to see her on Television, but not on this trainwreck called "Housewives of Atlanta" That show is nothing but a collection of trashy women dressed in jewels, and I don’t want to have Victoria’s television legacy marred by this on her resume…..She’s SO MUCH BETTER than this show, I really hope she doesn’t do it If she’s gonna do reality….perhaps Dancing With the Stars, or maybe some kind of chatfest…I could see certainly see her as a guest host on the View, etc….not HOUSEWIVES!!!!!!!! Log in to Reply sweetiepie December 17, 2009 I would agree with freerythm, Victoria Rowell is far too classy to join RHOA. I know that it’s a guilty pleasure for a lot of people, but I do think that doing this particular reality show would damage her professional reputation. As a matter of fact I would love to see her on DWTS. Log in to Reply Ryan-Scott December 17, 2009 Victoria is classier than a show like this. Log in to Reply josser December 17, 2009 Rowell is classier than this show but if it pays money that fits her requirements and she needs…Well, a diva has to do what a diva must… Log in to Reply DynamiteKiddo December 17, 2009 From her interviews, she seems batshit crazy, so she’d fit right in. But, ya, like someone else said, this would “mar” her professional career. Log in to Reply EmpireMunchies December 17, 2009 Hmmm…well I think this is right up VR’s alley. VR loves getting attention and being a diva. VR, Nene and Sheree all in one room?? JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL!!!! Log in to Reply josser December 17, 2009 DynamiteKiddo, If taking umbrage at being spat on or speaking out against racism makes one "batshit," then I think a lot of other people would consider "batshit crazy" as psychologically normal. Rowell is no more a Diva than Eric Braeden or Melody Thomas Scott. Log in to Reply DynamiteKiddo December 17, 2009 josstheguy, No, I’m all for equality, wholeheartedly. If you were suggesting otherwise that’s pretty presumptuous. To compare the way in which she comes off, so it can’t be misconstrued as somehow involving racism, I feel similarly about Robin Strasser . . . I LOVE her, but she seems pretty nuts in her interviews, too. I wasn’t being mean-spirited, but perhaps the comment was inappropriate. If a moderator thinks it’s fit for deletion, that’s cool–understood. But, in my opinion, Victoria Rowell comes off crazy, for a number of reasons, sometimes. IA she’s no more of a diva than EB, MTS is another story, though . . . but that’s just me. I think most can agree that VR (and EB . . . and Peter Bergman) is a totally self-anointed diva (it’s deserved, I guess). Log in to Reply DaytimeFan0001 December 17, 2009 Get ready….she will be in "negotiations" to rename the show "Victoria Rowell of Atlanta". If Bravo REALLY wants the drama…bring her aboard! I am not hating on Victoria, I think she is attractive and she does bring the numbers. But for what I’ve heard about this girls antics….she would fit in great with the girls of ATL. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 December 17, 2009 Yeah, josstheguy, Victoria rowell keeps it real and don’t fake it like other soap actors. So I would love her to be on DHOA or any other show for that matter, but Y&R is in danger just like B&B and the soap industry is in trouble and she got a book coming out and other projects to work on and she will be alright, you can’t say the same about Y&R. Log in to Reply jase December 17, 2009 Oh God. This would be a mistake for her if she wants to continue acting. Log in to Reply east.west December 17, 2009 I agree w/joss. I personally think all of reality tv is garbage and with me saying that I can cop to say that the first two installment of Flavor of Love and the NY spinoff were my guilty pleasures. Victoria is a class act and a hell of an actress so I wouldn’t want to see her degrade herself but if it helps pay the bills than who am I to judge Log in to Reply DominiqueDevereaux December 17, 2009 Damn I don’t know bout this one, Luv me some VR, I don’t know, if the show would bring more attention to some of her ongoing organizations that she is advocate for like the Foster Children then maybe. Log in to Reply rob3215 December 18, 2009 DynamiteKiddo – love you!!!!!!!! She is a self congratulatory irritation that the cast hated working with. Somehow she has forgotten that Diahann Carroll, Flip Wilson, Etta James, Bill Cosby all set the world on fire loooong before she decided her ____doesn’t stink. Love you, thank you for saying this. LOVE MICHELE STAFFORD. Log in to Reply yojoromo4469 December 18, 2009 I can’t say I love Victoria Rowell, but oooh do love those BOOBS. She needs one more enlargement job though I do believe. Log in to Reply Smitty December 18, 2009 So you mean to tell me it’s okay for Michelle Stafford to SPIT in someone face and she be the best thing since sliced bread, but Victoria Rowell gives an interview and tells this and she’s the bad person? Give me a break! People kill me with the double standards when it comes to Victoria Rowell. Sorry Victoria Rowell for not going to work and baking cookies for your castmates and becoming best friends with each and everyone of them. Sorry for going on screen and playing an ICONIC character to the best of your ability and giving it 110% and running circles around some less than stellar actors that you are forced to work with. As Jamey would say, "Beats ALL I EVER SCENE AND HEARD!" Log in to Reply EduBois December 18, 2009 I have some mixed feelings about RHOA. On the one hand, these women are really encouraged to behave in an outrageous fashion. They are all wannabes with NO discernable skill. They all have a fashion line, or business or sell "jooree", blah, blah, blah. There are people out there who pursue these businesses seriously and are real ARTISTS, designers, entrepeneurs. So these ladies come off as a joke. Now…on the other hand, they are totally entertaining! I think VR is really quite accomplished, so she actually wouldn’t fit in with these characters. And I wonder if it would hurt her other career aspirations? I think she is playing coy because that is how you spin out a story and let it play out. She’s no dummy. I don’t think she’d actually do it. But…we’ll see. And if she does – I will watch the first episode no doubt! Log in to Reply rob3215 December 18, 2009 No double standards here. I love my Y and R, and Rowell did kick butt as Drucilla. But her interviews are painful, self congratulatory spins. Sunset Boulevard 2009! I’m not gonna give opinions just to agree with the message of the day. Love this website, love my Phyllis….. Log in to Reply siomonstuart2003 December 18, 2009 Victoria Rowell is only congrating herself because if she doesn’t, know one else is going to give her the praise that she deserves. I think that she would be great and come out smelling like roses and Kandi Buress is the only one who is not a hot mess so Victoria would certainly be classy and keep it real. Log in to Reply Smitty December 18, 2009 Painful, self congratulatory spins…..*side eye* Maybe we are just hearing different interviews. To each is his own. Log in to Reply EmpireMunchies December 18, 2009 Are you serious??? VR claims SHE was the reason Y&R rose to #1 status. Can’t get much more self-centered than that!
