Fun podcast! We all know even the best soaps can be boring and repetitve at times--so the "hammy" or "theatrical" actors are vital to these shows. If we didn't have them--we would be falling asleep half the time. Now, there is certainly a difference between good ham and bad--and that is usually the difference between good acting and bad.
For instance-Trent Dawson--for my money is one of the best actors in daytime. Of course he has to be over the top--look what they write for him. Possessed by and seeing ghosts--Geneva Swift--dressing up in costume with Vienna etc--so he has to play it a little big. It wouldn't work if he didn't. What he does with no rehearsal time is amazing. And comedy is much harder to pull off than drama.
When I turn on ATWT or other soaps--I always hope to see Henry, Lucinda, Babs and some of the more lively characters. They make the soaps fun!

Jamey! Dissing vintage Luke/Laura!!!
Honestly though, you need to watch the Youtube clips from 1979-80--not the Ice Princess stuff of '81 which was fun but slight. The 1979-80 stuff is amazing and angsty and romantic, and I know you'll get a kick out of the mob stuff!!

This was the best podcast that you guys have ever done and I had to listen to it twice!!!
First, Jamie, love loved loved your comments about vintage Luke/Laura. I never got it.. and think back to when everyone blasted Todd/Marty storyline/romance because of the rape but then would love love Luke/Laura. There have been times when I just wanted to pass the mustard when it comes to Luke.
Mel, your comments about falcolm (fake Malcolm) had me rolling in the floor. I loved you guys podcasts as you always have something great to say.
Ok, I can't believe that no one mentioned the late great Darlene Connley as being one of B&B's greatest "good" hams! She was always awesome especially when she was calling Clark "ducky" or making snipy comments with Stephanie!!! Folling close behind her is Clark Garrison's best line of lately was when he asked Stephanie if she needed him to date her to make Eric jealous.
Another ham from ATWT, Elizabeth Hubbard's Lucinda.. she's a "good" ham with the way that she always seems to float into the room making sniping comments about "stableboy" Holden and those goody-two shoes Snyders.

we can chalk that genie francis comment that jamey made to her being a baby during that time.
