No. 100: Brittany Underwood, One Life to Live (Debut)

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Daytime Confidential Hot 100. Over the past year Daytime Confidential has been tracking who you, the readers, are most interested in through your clicks on the website. Throughout the year, we have published the names of the Top 20 current and former daytime stars and celebrities in our monthly Daytime Confidential Top 20 ranking. With 2010 almost upon us, it is time to reveal who the Hot 100 stars are, and where they ranked.

Thirty-six stars who earned a spot in the 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 fell off the list in 2009 making room for newcomers to the list. Of the stars who have earned a Daytime Confidential Hot 100 ranking two years in a row, the actors with the highest jump in ranking rose 94 spots while the actor or actress with the biggest drop in ranking fell 77.

The names of each current and former soap star that appears on the list are credited to the soap on which the most recently appeared. The Young and the Restless and General Hospital tied with the most number of stars on the list with 18 stars a piece.

No. 25: Beth Ehlers, f. All My Children (Down 19)

Ranked among the Top 10 most popular stars in the 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100, Beth Ehlers falls to No. 25 on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100. With little to do onscreen at All My Children, she could have fallen further had it not been for controversial statements made in an interview that spiked fan’s interest in her.

bergman56894

No. 24: Farah Fath, One Life to Live (Down 11)

For the second year in a row Farah Fath remains One Life to Live’s most clicked on star among Daytime Confidential readers. The news isn’t all good though, Fath dropped eleven spots from her 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 ranking. However, considering over half of the people who earned a spot in the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 top 25 weren’t in it in 2008 Fath is hanging tough with her ranking.

No. 23: Nathan Parsons, General Hospital (Debut)

Love or hate Nathan Parson’s Ethan on General Hospital, he kept fans talking in 2009, giving the Australian-born actor a Daytime Confidential Hot 100 debut. Parsons spent two months, May and June, at No. 7 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20. It is interesting to note that even though Anthony Geary, one of daytime's most recognizable stars, didn't earn a spot on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100, but that two of the actors–Parsons and Greg Vaughan–who portrayed his onscreen sons did.

bergman24378

No. 22: David Canary, All My Children (Debut)

At No. 22 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 All My Children’s David Canary shot to No. 1 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 in May as the “Who Killed Stuart?” storyline took off with a bang. Fans wanted to find out whether Stuart or Adam had been shot, and who the killer was. He did not appear in the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 in 2008.

No. 21: Vanessa Marcil, f. General Hospital (Down 16)

Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens jokes that Bob Guza prays for the day that Vanessa Marcilreturns to General Hospital. He has a point. Marcil, who stars in the new web series The Bannen Way, last appeared in Port Charles in 2003, but fans still try to find out any bit of information about when she might return. That interest helped her make the grade at No. 21 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

No. 20: Tamara Braun, f. All My Children (Up 3)

The year 2009 was a very good year for All My Children’s Tamara Braun. The actress, whose Pine Valley character Reese Williams was paired with Eden Riegel’s Bianca helped spike ratings in February as the lesbian couple married on screen. Then in September Braun won the Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy for her Days of our Lives portrayal of Ava Vitali. Braun moves up three spots from the 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 to No. 20 in 2009.

No. 19: Eddie Cibrian, f. Sunset Beach (Up 29)

A regular primetime guest  star who soap fans remembered fondly from his time on Sunset Beach and The Young and the Restless, Eddie Cibrian hadn’t been a major topic of discussion among soap fans for some time. Reports of an alleged affair with country singer LeAnn Rimes changed that, blasting the former soaphunk to No. 1 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 in March. That, combined with ongoing interest after the story broke, helped Cibrian secure his spot on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

No. 18: Rebecca Budig, All My Children (Up 13)

Leaving a soap in February and returning to it in December of the same year is one way to stay on everyone’s tongues, and ensure a spot on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100. That is exactly what All My Children’sRebecca Budig did. She finds herself at No. 18, up 13 spots from 2008’s Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

berg110809_11_

No. 17: Maura West, As the World Turns (Up 71)

Thanks to an alcoholism storyline and an extended maternity leave which had fans anticipating Carly’s return to As the World Turns, Maura West dominated Daytime Confidential reader’s interest among ATWT’s stars in 2009. West became the first ATWT star to crack the Top 10, the first ATWT star to remain on the DC Top 20 for five consecutive months and the only ATWT star to claim a spot among the Top 25 on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

bergman37170

No. 16: Victoria Rowell, f. The Young and the Restles

(

Down 14

)

Frmer The Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell remains one of the most discussed stars among Daytime Confidential readers. Rowell, who was runner-up for the top spot on the 2008 Hot 100 list, fell 14 spots.  Expect interest in Rowell— who hasn’t appeared in Genoa City as Drucilla Winters since 2007—to remain high in 2010 as rumors persist she’s joining The Real Housewives of Atlanta and her highly anticipated book, Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva, is released in March.

bergman36532

No. 15: Marcy Rylan, f. Guiding Light (Up 36)

Fans miss soap opera’s grande dame, Guiding Light, but the cancellation of the historic series has only helped spur interest in its former stars, the talented Marcy Rylan included. Before September 2009 Rylan had only appeared among the Daytime Confidential Top 20 twice. Since September she’s held down a spot each month ranked no lower than No. 12. The strength of interest in Rylan help’s her secure her spot at No. 15 on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100, up 36.

bergman58623

No. 14: Daniel Goddard, The Young and the Restless (Up 13)

Daniel Goddard was The Young and the Restless’ highest ranked male actor on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 in 2008, but that isn’t the case in 2009. Two other Y&R males are higher on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100. Goddard moved up 13 spots amid the revelation that Cane was not Jill’s son, and the discovery that Cane’s wife Lily (Christel Khalil) is battling cancer.

bergman55553

No. 13: John Driscoll, The Young and the Restless (Debut)

The Young and the Restless’ John Driscoll is one of two stars among the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 Top 25 who appeared on not one, but two soaps in 2009. In February, Driscoll shot to No. 2 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 as fans mourned the loss of Guiding Light’s Coop. He might have made the No. 1 ranking that month had The Young and the Restless not killed off Brad (Don Diamont), turning him into a Bradcicle. After Daytime Confidential’s Jillian Bowe broke the news in April that Driscoll would be joining Y&R, the actor spent the next three months on the DC Top 20, enough time to land himself a spot at No. 13 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

berg110809_17_

No. 12: Kelly Monaco, General Hospital (Down 1)

Down one spot from No. 11,  Kelly Monaco is one of two General Hospital actresses to appear among the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 Top 25. Can you guess who the other is? Find out on the next page. The passion of both actresses’ fan bases helped them stay in the Top 25 as six of their current and/or former GH co-stars fell out of the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 Top 25.

bergman52306

No. 11: Rebecca Herbst, General Hospital (Down 4)

Occupying the spot that General Hospital co-star Kelly Monaco filled last year is Rebecca Herbst at No. 11 on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 10. For much of 2009 the two actresses seesawed up and down each month’s Daytime Confidential Top 20. In 2008, Vanessa Marcil was the highest ranked current or former GH actress, but after falling to No. 21, Herbst became the most clicked on GH actress with Daytime Confidential readers.

berg110809_25_

No. 10: Thorsten Kaye, All My Children (Up 72)

All My Children’sThorsten Kaye skyrocketed in popularity among Daytime Confidential readers in 2009. In 2008 he ranked No. 82 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100. In 2009 he finds himself at No. 11 amid a front burner Zendall storyline and interest surrounding his exit from AMC in early 2010.

yr122308_2_

No. 9: Chris Engen, f. The Young and the Restless (Debut)

No single actor’s departure from a soap may have been as controversial in 2009 as Chris Engen’s from The Young and the Restless. Readers wanted to know everything they could about Engen’s decision to leave in the middle of his contract, reportedly due to concerns of story direction.

SGG-029496

No. 8: Steve Burton, General Hospital (Down 8)

Steve Burton was never able to lay claim to a Daytime Confidential Top 20 No. 1 in 2008, but his consistent popularity helped him unseat everyone else for the top spot on the 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100. 2009 was less kind to Burton. Though he remained the most clicked on male ABC actor among Daytime Confidential readers, his average ranking fell from between No. 2 and No. 5 spot to between No. 3 and No. 8. on the DC Top 20. No. 8 is where he finds himself on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

bergman43136

No. 7: Kim Zimmer, f. Guiding Light (Up 65)

Marcy Rylan wasn’t Guiding Light’s only actress to receive marked interest in the post GL cancellation world. So did the soap's biggest star Kim Zimmer. While other GL actresses appeared on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 prior to GL going off the air, Zimmer first appeared on the countdown in September 2009 at No. 3, and has remained in the Top 6 since. Zimmer movedup 65 spots from her rank on the 2008 Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

berg110609_3_1

No. 6: Jessica Leccia, f. Guiding Light (Debut)

Thanks to the overwhelming support of Otalia fans, Guiding Light’s Jessica Leccia and Crstyal Chappell had a banner year in 2009. At No. 6 on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 list, Leccia has the second highest debut of any actor or actress.

SGG-030253

No. 5: Eric Braeden, The Young and the Restless (Up 94)

Eric Braeden is the highest ranking male actor on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100 countdown. The Young and the Restless star shot up an astounding 94 spots from his 2008 ranking at No. 99, with the help of a protracted contract dispute, “exclusive interview” publicity tour and Victor’s onscreen departure having readers wondering who Y&R’s biggest diva really is.

bergman26386

No. 4: Christel Khalil, The Young and the Restless (Up 13)

The Young and the Restless’Christel Khalil never ranked lower than No. 8 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20 in 2009. It didn’t hurt that her character Lily was caught up in the on screen reveal that her husband wasn’t who he claimed to be and the discovery that she has cancer. Interest in Khalil's two front burner storylines landed the actress at No. 4 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100.

berg110809_23_

No. 3: Alicia Minshew, All My Children (Up 5)

All My Children’sAlicia Minshew was the first No. 1 of 2009 on the Daytime Confidential Top 20, and spent more than half of the year among the Top 3. As one of AMC’s leading ladies, and half of the show’s biggest couple (Zendall), questions about whether or not she’d be staying with AMC after it moved to L.A. only intensified fans interest in the actress. This helped Minshew secure a No. 3 spot on the 2009 Daytime Confidential Hot 100, and making her ABC's most popular star among DC readers.

bergman50365

No. 2: Melody Thomas Scott, The Young and the Restless (Up 59)

Fans may debate who Y&R’s biggest diva is, but among Daytime Confidential readers there is no question who was the most clicked in 2009— Melody Thomas Scott. The actress, whose much-publicized contract dispute, and resulting off screen departure helped her lay claim to the No 1 spot in August, thwarting what would have been Crystal Chappell's record-breaking three-month run at the top, jumped 59 spots from 2008 to No. 2 on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 in 2009.

CrystalChappell-1

No. 1: Crystal Chappell, Days of our Lives (Debut)

Crystal Chappell had a stellar year in 2009. In addition to being one-half of daytime’s most popular onscreen lesbian couple, starring on two soaps and launching a new web series, Venice, her legion of loyal fans crashed CNN servers, no small feat.

It was also a year of firsts for her at Daytime Confidential. Chappell is the first actor to earn a Daytime Confidential No. 1 ranking for appearing on two different soaps, Guiding Light and Days of our Lives. Chappell is the first actor to earn a No. 1 ranking in back-to-back months twice. Though All My Children’s David Canary, The Young and the Restless’ Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden prevented her from earning the honor of being the No. 1 ranked star for three consecutive months. Chappell still managed to dominate the No. 1 spot, earning it a record-breaking seven times in 2009. Besides Chappell, only All My Children’sAlicia Minshew and The Young and the Restless’Victoria Rowell have earned a No. 1 ranking more than once since we began tracking who readers are interested in back in 2008. Chappell also made the highest debut of any actor on the Daytime Confidential Hot 100 in 2009.
