HomeTVBuppiesCheck Out the Trailer for Buppies Star Tatyana Ali’s New TV One Sitcom! Jamey Giddens January 15, 2010 9 Comments Hot on the heels of turning in the best performance of her career in BET.com’s smash hit web sudser Buppies (Seriously y’all, the girl is the black Carrie Bradshaw as neruotic, Hollyweird princess Quinci in Buppies), Tatyana Ali is returning to sitcoms! As previously reported, the actress/producer/Fresh Prince of Belair alum— who also recurs on The Young and the Restless as Roxanne— is starring in Love That Girl, TV One’s first foray into scripted television, premiering Jan. 19 at 9 pm (thanks DC reader Smitty for the tip!). Who does Tatyana think she is, Crystal Chappell with all these gigs? All joking aside, Love That Girl, from Martin scribe Bentley Kyle Evans, and executive produced by Martin Lawrence himself, looks funny— if a bit buffoonish at times— from the trailer. Love That Girl definitely has that old school, 90′s, black folks sitcom feel. Hey I’m just glad to see another cabler getting into scripted TV, especially starring and produced by people of color. Check out Y&R alum Phil Morris as Ali’s character’s dad in the sitcom. I think I will give it a look-see, if for no other reason, to check out the Immunique character. I feel her on making folks use hand sanitizer! For more information on Love That Girl click here. 9 Responses Jillian Bowe January 15, 2010 "Told you not to marry that sucker!" HA! jokes Log in to Reply Smitty January 16, 2010 I can’t wait. I was surprised when I heard it advertised on the radio this morning. I didn’t realize it was coming out this soon. Hopefully it’s good… Log in to Reply rskuggs January 16, 2010 LOVED the work Ms. Ali is doing on Buppies, but THIS? This is just more of the same tired, weak assed stereotypical garbage like House of Payne and Meet The Browns that pollute the air. Will it kill anyone in the industry to make a comedy starring Black Folks that doesn’t regurgitate the same tired, worn out formula? Why can’t the same intelligent, outside the box creativity that is being done online be put to use on Television? I would watch 30 seconds of BuPPIES on a network before watching 30 seconds of this pile of FAIL! Log in to Reply justangel24 January 16, 2010 Wasn’t Phil Morris on Y&R in the 1980′s? I could be mistaken but he played Tyrone who was in white face to take down some mobsters. It inspired SNL to do the same thing to Eddie Murphy in a sketch, I think. Those black and gay stereotypes are circa 1985. Ugh! Log in to Reply josser January 16, 2010 I was really hoping that this would be like Girlfriends or the Game, they were smart and thoughtful. Log in to Reply BeBe91 January 16, 2010 I was actually looking forward to this show, but after watching that clip, I will definitely take a pass. It’s 2010 and stuff like this is still being passed off as "entertainment"…sad. Log in to Reply Dariclone January 16, 2010 Loved this promo! The opening theme looked kind of like the opening to Blossom, but as someone who *loved* Blossom, that’s a good thing! Log in to Reply Cyberologist January 18, 2010 I like Tatyana Ali and I’ll check it out then give an assessment. I don’t want to rush to judgement without giving it a fair shot…Since I like her it probably won’t matter I watch many shows just because I like who is starring in them not so much the content… Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
