Several daytime sudsers not only maintained, but added to the insane total viewer count from the previous week's ratings (Source: SON). Unfortunately for CBS, The Young and the Restless wasn't one of those. Y&R shed 260,000 of the holiday viewers they saw tuning in the last week of the year. However, the sudser was still watched by 5.3 million people the week of Jan. 4-8, 2010. Y&R went down one-tenth of a ratings point in households, and among women 18-49. Y&R's kid sister sudser, The Bold and the Beautiful added 39,000 total viewers over the previous week.  B&B went up one-tenth of a ratings point in households, and held steady among women 18-49. As The World Turns lost a measly 21,000 total viewers, but went up one-tenth of a ratings point in households and among women 18-49. ATWT was watched by more total viewers than ABC's One Life to Live for the week. The cancelled sudser is tied with Mouse House flagship General Hospital in households, and is also tied with OLTL and AMC among women 18-49.  No intel, just my gut, but I ain't counting World Turns out quite yet!

Since we've already talked about the depressing state of ABC Daytime ratings-wise, let's get that portion of The Tonight Show over before moving on to Days of Our Lives.  AMC went up just 23,000 total viewers the week it celebrated its 40th Anniversary. Sheesh, you woulda thought Jay Leno visited Pine Valley, not Kelly Ripa! AMC did manage to go up one-tenth of a point in households, and among women 18-49. AMC was the most watched ABC sudser for the week, and topped GH and OLTL in households, however Mickey Mouse's mobtacular flagship soap left her sisters home for the Nurses' Ball (We wish) where it really counts— women 18-49. GH went up one-tenth of a point in that most coveted demo, tying DAYS for second place. GH also went up 18,000 total viewers, and increased one-tenth of a ratings point in households, and among women 18-49. One Life to Live was the only ABC soap to lose total viewers over the previous week, dropping 99,000. OLTL held steady in households, and although it went up one-tenth of a point among women 18-49, OLTL was still the lowest rated soap amomg total viewers, households and women 18-49 (the latter tied with AMC and ATWT).  I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but WATCH ONE LIFE TO LIVE!

Now for some good news. DAYS continued to prove it's still possible for a soap to rebound from both creative and ratings disasters (Good riddance last few years of the '00's!). DAYS went up 88,000 total viewers, and also increased one-tenth of a ratings point in households and among women 18-49. If you aren't watching DAYS, you are missing out. My Fancy Butt called my Katerina a HO the other day at Uncle Mickey's after-funeral! Scandalous!
