Y&R's Braeden Says "Victor Will Be At His Machiavellian Best"

In another "exclusive" interivew, The Young and the Restless's prodigal son Eric Braeden talks to Entertainment Weekly's Lynette Rice on heading back to the show and the show runner/head writer Maria Arena Bell's storyline penned for his alter ego.

How do you feel about the way head writer Maria Bell brought Victor back?
I feel very good about Maria, period. She’s done a wonderful job and I liked what she intends to do. If had not talked to her, I would not have come back. She had a great deal to do with it. So did (CBS Corp. CEO) Les Moonves.

Braeden also reveals what Victor will be up to once he heads back to Genoa City.

Now that Victor’s back, what will be his first order of business? Repairing the rift between Adam and Nick? Divorcing Ashley?
Victor will be at his Machiavellian best. He is going to get even. This is payback time for a number of people.

Oh gosh... i just wish he (& his character) would just shut up already!
What does Victor have to get even for??  HE is the one that needs to be making amends here.  He got that baby brain-damaged, Colleen killed & took her heart!  Victor is upset why??  b/c Billy had the audacity to be pissed that Colleen's most-recent enemy walked out of that hosptial with her heart?
Good grief.

(Is it just me or is this show getting terrible again?)

Yet another reason to continue watching GH instead of that rubbish.

Other than Adam, who else is Victor supposed to get even with?

I am so glad EB's Victor is back!  When he walked into that room on Friday I was in soap heaven!  As long as his revenge involves exposing Adam I am all for it!

Victor can get rid of his twit kids as CEO of NE, destroy Adam and be a shoulder to Sharon when the truth comes out.

I like Eric Braeden.  He's a good actor, good enough to have me loathe his character Victor Newman for being a sociopathic narccisist.

Victor brought Patty to town to kill Jack.  Instead, Patty killed Colleen and poisoned Summer, causing her to suffer brain damage.  Victor is guilty as sin.  It's revolting that in Genoa City, someone like Victor can walk the streets.  He should be behind bars.

People complain about General Hospital making heroes out of murderous mobsters, but Y&R  makes a hero out of Victor, whose long history of misdeeds are just a step above a GH mafioso.

Joss, Victor is flawed, but on GH, Sonny and Jason are heroes.

Oh for God sakes. You see, this is why I replaced Y&R with OLTL on my DVR as the soap set to record every weekday. To say I’m sick of the same old ‘Victor gets even and always gets the last word’ crap is not enough. I’m done with it. Done I tell you…DONE! If it’s one thing I will always love Patty Williams for is plugging his blowhard ass three times. I actually wish Eric Braeden had stayed away.

I’ll stick with OLTL’s writer Ron Carlevetti (sp?), the best writer in soaps now. He’s not afraid to write comeuppances for the less than stellar citizens of Llainview. Dorian, Todd, Clint, Stacy, etc., don’t win them all and we know eventually Mitch will go down a peg or two.  That's  the way villains should be written.  Maria and Co. should stop letting Eric Braeden get away with this CRAP.

IMO you are 100% right- the only diference between Victor and Sonny is when Sonny wants to kill someone that person dies and when Vic wants the same someone inocemt like Summer and Colleen gets hurt.

I see that the Victor hate is strong...but I love him and I will never believe that Victor brought Patty to kill Jack.  As a matter of fact, before she stopped taking her pills. Patty was doing her best to build him up in the public eye and help him get back Jabot. As a matter of fact, they almost convinced Kay to give it back (before the Tucker story).  It doesn't make since to give Jack such a new public image to have him die...

I believe that Victor was going to do the same thing that he did when he helped Jack run for Senate. Get him in position, give him kudos, then get him caught up in a scandal to bring him down and humiliate him publicly. I mean really, if Victor wanted someone dead, he would hire professional goons, not a woman who was emotionally involved.  As a matter of fact, Victor would never have hired Patti - he doesn't trust people that are emotionally involved. They are always a risk...so I hated that storyline from the start.

Who does Victor have to get revenge on? Did we forget that scene with Jack before Victor left?  Victor always thought, but never had proof that Jack was involved in the diary.  Jack proved it, bragged about it, and dared him to do something in his condition. Hell yeah, Victor is back..and it is all on Jack......

No, I'm not off base.  Victor is often portrayed as the same of dangerous hero/anti-hero as Jason and Sonny.

Again, I  like Braeden.  He's a good actor, and I supported him in his contract negotiations, but Victor is a criminal.  The law is clear that if you are a party to a crime and another party in that crime kills someone, you can be tried for murder.

Victor knew that Patty had a long history of mental illness. He exploited her and it blew up in his face.  I think it's appalling that people in Genoa City admonished Billy for writing an expose on Victor.  All those people trying to protect a monster, why?

One of the few realistic portrayals of honest emotions was Ashley questioning Nikki on how she could go back to Victor after all he had done.  Nikki stood silent.

Eric Braeden plays Victor masterfully.  He shows different levels of emotion and thought processes.  But, there's no way that his character of Victor has any right to vengeance against any of the Abbotts at this point.  The only person deserving of his scorn is Adam Wilson, nee Victor Newman Jr, his true heir in horror and self-pity.

OH.MY.GOD.

Can Eric Braeden just please go away for good?  His diva antics are so repulsive.  Had a woman pulled what he did during his salary kerfuffle, I would bet that she would be vilified so much more than what EB's gotten away with.

Can't EB just take his million dollar per annum salary, mumble his lines and stop giving these "exclusive" interviews?

KILL THE GREAT VICTOR NEWMAN NOW, FOR GOD'S SAKE.  ENOUGH!

I said it before and I’ll say it again.  The reason Peter Bergman and David Canary (AMC’s Adam Chandler) have more Emmys than Eric Braeden’s 1 is because as wicked as their characters can be, they ARE NOT afraid to let their characters lose and get taken down from time to time.  They see the acting challenge, and more than rise to the occasion, to play their characters getting back up, dusting themselves off, and getting back to business.

luverica, I have to agree with you.  I think that Eric not letting his character lose is not winning him any favors because it is the same old same old.  Victor never pays for anything or loses or Eric throws a big fit.

The whole show is so boring right now! Does any one recall the exact moment it all went downhill?? My memory is not the best, but, I think it was around the time Patty went to the hospital. Any thoughts?

Everyone complaining about Victor's portrayal as a hero is right on base IMO. And as much as I admit that EB's performance as Victor is a large part of the show's success over the past three decades, it does bother me how he gets on his soapbox to rationalize what Victor does as OK to toot his own horn. It's like with the bribery story, where Victor clearly broke the law in an effort to break Jabot and lay the blame on Jack. Interview after interview had EB claiming what Victor did was fine because "it happens in business all the time," sidestepping the fact that something happening all the time doesn't make it right. Now he's doing it again, calling the "Victor gets Colleen's heart" story ridiculous, claiming Victor did absolutely nothing wrong and crowing about how he'll get back at Jack, Billy, Adam and the man on the moon for wronging him.

No, Victor does not have any legal culpability in what happened to Summer. The fact that he brought Patty to town and created Mary Jane doesn't make him responsible for every act she did. But he is guilty of identity fraud (the web of lies and payoffs to make MJ seem real) and of obstruction of justice (trying to get Patty out of town once people figured out she poisoned Summer), and the latter allowed her to stay free to the point where she kidnapped Colleen. Aside from that, there's the moral culpability; how is what he did with Patty any different than what Jack tried to do to him with the diary?

Whitewash Victor all you want, EB. He's still no hero, no matter how hard you try to tell us otherwise.

Eric Braeden isn't Victor Newman.  It's possible to like Braeden and not Victor.

I want Victor on Y&R, but I want him to pay some price for his crime.  That payment could be jail time and estrangement from loved ones.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Luverica, The reason Peter B has more Emmy's than Eric IS because the cast doesn't vote for Eric B. which is stupid the cast should not help with votimg. the daytime Emmy needs to vote like the Oscars or golden globes.
