Will Jack and Emily Get Their Happily Ever After on Y&R?

Why is it that weddings rarely ever go well on soaps? I don't know about anyone else, but I've never actually attended a wedding where the bride runs off, someone stands up in protest at "speak now or forever hold your peace" or a past lover stops the wedding. Well, there was that one time...now as The Young and the Restless' Jack (Peter Bergman) and Emily (Stacy Haiduk) prepare for their wedding Patty (Stacy Haiduk) plots her revenge. Watch the promo after the jump!

Shocking!  I'm just sooooooooooo surprised that Patty would find a way to kill/replace Emily.

Ugh!  I hate how this has been telegraphed and made so cliche.

Last week, Y&R did the terrible cliche crap of Jack seeing Emily in her dress before the wedding.

Why do all soaps play with the same stupid tired plot points?

Frankly I don't give a damn.

They shove couple down my throat, most couple really on Y&R, and I am supposed to care about this one because?

I don't care about them, and I don't care about Patty either, we see them coming with the swtich or some form of it, months ago!

Y&R is boring!

It is interesting how some people can see the same show differently. I do not agree that Y&R is boring. On the contrary, I think it is doing pretty well. It is hard to always come up with new creative story lines when a show airs 5 days a week. There is a great chance that some storylines will be recycled in some way shape or form. Not every storyline is great on this show but I don't know that I have ever seen any daytime drama that was firing on all of their storylines. You take the good with the bad and you either watch or say goodbye. I think Y&R pulled in over 5 million viewers in the last week of January. Lets see if things keep improving ratings wise.

A year ago Y&R was simply amazing, now? the writing in on the wall, the resident sociopath has married his victim and don't even get me started on the boring Emily and her insta-love with Jack.

See, I think most knew that YR would pull this move, but I held out hope they would not. I really like the actress playing Emily/Patty.

I wish they would have done somthing different with this though, but I do not remember when a actress playing dual roles never switched places at some point, well maybe AH and JB on Another World but I am sue that both played one sister at one point pretending to be the other even if only for a small plot point.

I have given OLTL a chance with this Jessica story so I will give this one a chance. I will say at this point I do not want it to be a long story if they switch.

"There is a great chance that some storylines will be recycled in some way shape or form."

I don't care about recycling stories, I care about bothering to tell stories in the first place. Y&R does not, IMHO. They rush from plot point to plot point because they think all we care about are these shocks. I don't care about Emily and Jack because their relationships lacks credibility. Emily is a fool to so quickly go from telling Jack that he caused Patty's breakdown to wanting to marry him and have a child with him. Patty is a plot device who lost any value once she became more known for her stuffed cat than for her character.

I agree with Carol2. Al the dreadful plot-driven stories are dull. What happened to telling stories that were true and came out of character? The only plot-driven ploy I would applaud at this point is bringing back Victoria Rowell as Dru!

I don't see Victoria Rowell coming back (not in this lifetime). Most of us would like to see her back but last I checked there are other African American female actors out there. Y&R should seek a competent actress to NOT be a recast for Dru but to play a new and interesting character.

Unfortunately, the writers don't seem to know how to write for black characters at all. They seem to think it takes some special skill to be "authentic" and "street." Here's a thought, writers: create and wite the character, not their color! I'm actually worried that when Malcolm's fiancee shows up finally, it's going to be Eva Marcille back as Tyra!

I hate to say it, but it is not just that they don't know how to write for African American actors I think many DON'T want to write for them. I think there are some writers who have NO problem with writing for African Americans but there are biases and prejudices everywhere but it is hard to believe that in a genre that we love so much could have this problem. But it is what it is and it does (racism) still exist.

Yes, this was telegraphed a mile away from the day we first met Emily and learned why Patty chose her face to wear as Mary Jane. Some thought it might just be a vehicle to keep Stacey Haiduk around after Patty went off the deep end, but the handwriting was on the wall as soon as Jack started falling for Emily, and the wham-bam-thank-you-m'aam speed from adversaries to fiancees didn't help any.

I'm still holding out hope that the writers knew they were being obvious and were more concerned with where the switch would lead rather than with the switch itself. It reminds me of something I read recently where the outcome was obvious before you even read the first page, but that didn't tell you anything about the journey of how you got to that outcome. Maybe there could be something good out of this, especially since Stacey stands out more as Patty than as Emily. It's a big maybe, but I'll stay cautiously optimistic.

Jack and Emily is a crappy story line and everyone knows what is going to happen.  Bill Bell would never have allowed this recycled junk if he was still around.  What a shame that they have some of the recycled stories.  I think we definitely need some writers.  Y and R  has always been the only soap I watch and am about to give up on it after 25+ years as it has really gone down hill.
