ATWT: It's a Wrap!

You can love Twitter or you can hate it, but you cannot deny that there is some gold floating around in that ooze-filled pool of muck. Colleen Zenk Pinter (The most excellent Barbara) has been tweeting significant moments about what she is experiencing on her last day of taping. The final message popped up a couple of hours ago,

"It's a wrap......ATWT.....xoxoxoxoxox ." And so it goes at the Brooklyn studio for the 54 year-old television institution. Although the show will air until September, this brings home the reality that was announced last December.

For those holding out any hope of ATWT finding a new home, EW.com is reporting the following:

TeleNext Media, the company that has produced the sudser, released this statement today to EW: “Last December, when CBS informed us that they were canceling As The World Turns, we immediately launched a far-reaching search to find a new outlet for the show, said Brian T. Cahill, senior VP and managing director of TeleNext Media Inc. We have aggressively pursued network and cable outlets as well as syndication options, and have explored many innovative formats and relationships that we hoped would ultimately enable the future success of As The World Turns. Regrettably, we have not found an outlet or platform that will carry the show forward. This is an extremely disappointing outcome to what was a tireless and exhaustive pursuit.

In the meantime, fans, spend the next couple of months savoring your favorite actors and characters. I know I will!

Don't get me started. I could go on FOREVER talking about why this show does NOT deserve to be canceled. It's still quality entertainment, and far better than some of the other soaps. It's a shame that CBS and P&G pulled the plug on this great show.

I can see why ppl were turning out, I would too.

Let me rephrase that ---The cancellation does indeed suck, NOT the show!

The _Moustache...for real? Lucinda is a vet staple and I for one am loving her back on screen. She's just as manipulative as ever and over-involved in her daughter's life. That's my Lucy! I hope she's around 'til the end. I used to love it when she mixed it up with Lisa and John back in the day.

Thanks Mrs. Forrester!

Moustache---

LOL!! I couldn't disagree more. Lucinda is, in my opinion, one of the most consistently entertaining characters on this show. Actually, scratch that-- she IS my favorite character on ATWT!! Elizabeth Hubbard is a genius, and every time she's on my screen, I can't take my eyes off her.

Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion, but.....

Furthermore, Lucinda has NOT been prominently displayed on this show for over a decade, nor have any of the other veteran characters like Bob, Lisa, Nancy, Kim, Susan, Margo and Tom. That is what has contributed to the ratings PLUMMETING over the past five years, and is probably a significant contributor to the show's being canceled.

I wish they would show Lucinda every day instead of those whiny-assed teens and all these strangers and new characters that I don't care about!! I adore her.

Give me a break. That's the same exact statement they made at the end of Guiding Light, they just changed the name of the show. I doubt they tried very hard.

Doug Marland's run on ATWT in the '80s and '90s was perfect soap opera. The writers of the remaining dramas should be REQUIRED to go back and watch those episodes to see how it should be done.

And Lucinda ROCKS!

Alstonboy, once again, I couldn't have said it better! Lucinda's character has always been so much fun to watch.
I have watched since I was 9 years old, when it was a 15 min show. So I think I know a little about the show.
I will miss this show almost as much as I miss GL. I love so many of these characters. Now that I've retired, and no longer have to dvr, they take them away. I will NOT be watching Les Mooonves's wife!!! I will NOT be watching CBS after Y&R. PERIOD

Idylkng--

Appreciate the support. I hope Elizabeth Hubbard finds work on another soap, although I don't think many soaps will be able to give her the level of sophisticated writing that she's grown accustomed to on ATWT. She does ad-lib most of her dialogue, anyway, though...I can see her on GH as one of Helena's partners in crime!! I'd love to see her playing an evil character!!! Imagine Constance Towers and Elizabeth Hubbard on the same screen together???? Talk about a match made in heaven!!!!!!!! Love

I say dump Constance Towers and give Elizabeth Hubbard the role of Helena!! Can you imagine how great that would be??

Marland Fan--

I don't know about dumping Constance Towers. I think she's BRILLIANT. I say that GH can benefit from BOTH of these actresses on the canvas in a storyline together. It would certainly be an EMBARRASSMENT of riches!!!!!! GH already has the best cast of actors, so Elizabeth would send their stock soaring through the roof!!!

And while we're engaging in wishful castings, why not bring Julie Pinson over to GH to play Lois???? Rena Sofer isn't coming back, Lesli Kay is on B&B......why waste such a great actress?????????

What Alstonboy?
Reading this made me very sad - hence the "sniff". Sad(
And a little upset about the comments about Liz Hubbard.
Lucinda hasn't had her own story in YEARS (when she had breast cancer I think was the last) so any domination she has in ATWT's final episodes is just dandy with me!

Oh, okay....

I just didn't understand your post. Sorry.....Thanks for clarifying. Love ya....... Love

And I agree. It's gonna be so sad in September to face the fact that I will never see Lucinda again on my screen!! She's my favorite ATWT character. Thank God for YouTube....

ldylkng, I think you're confused about ATWT's history--it was never a 15-minute show. It, along with "The Edge Of Night," began as a 30-minute soap (the first two--on CBS, at least). Two soaps that began on TV as 15-minute shows were "Guiding Light" and "Search For Tomorrow." In early September 1968, both of those shows were expanded from 15 to 30 minutes. "As The World Turns" was a 30-minute show from its' debut in April 1956 until December 1975 when it expanded to an hour. I don't doubt you know about the show's history as a long-time viewer, however on this point you were incorrect. I think you may have a great idea about not watching CBS soaps. I've already dumped Y&R. I hope CBS suffers from the loss of their P&G shows and that their remaining shows tank. They deserve it after having dropped support for the genre so long ago.

Elizabeth Hubbard is amazing. It's criminal how little they've used her the last couple of years. It gave her enough free time to do a guest stint on the Dutch soap Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden.

I'm glad they're using her more right now.
