OUCH! Elisabeth Hasselbeck Calls Kathy Griffin "Scum"

Looks like someone has been blasting Drake's I'm Goin' In. The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed comedienne Kathy Griffin for her remarks regarding Sen. Scott Brown's (R-MA) daughters.  Griffin made a joke on her Bravo reality series, My Life On The D- List, regarding Brown's daughters being prostitutes. During the ABC gabfest's hot topics segment, the ladies weighed in on if the joke was appropriate or not. Both Hasselbeck and her co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed Griffin's joke was one done in poor taste while Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd had different takes on the situation. That didn't stop there for Hasselbeck. Watch the entire debate and Griffin's joke after the jump.

These two won't be shopping together anytime soon..

This is what's wrong with this country. If she have said that about a dem family she would have been sent to the white house. If Liz had said that about a dem famly, she would have been fired. We don't have freedom of speech anymore, if you mock or disagree with the anointed one, you are automatically branded a racist or loose your job.

And then Kathy came back and said lighten up or suck it.

If the senator starts off his political career telling people his daughters are available, and don't think that would get a comedians ears burning, then he is naive.

Exactly what damage could Kathy Griffin, an ENTERTAINER, do to a senator's grown daughters? Daughters who are in the public eye, have media careers, and receive Secret Service protection that we pay for, I might add.

There are too many people who take themselves too seriously in America.

No way folks...KG was WAY off the line. Kids have historically been off limits, and whatever dad did or didnt do changes that. Should conservatives be able to say that Bill Clintons behavior with an intern nearly his daughters age mades HER fair game. Should then tell jokes about where she was going to intern? Its disgusting and the bottom line - not told by this headline - is that both Whoopi and Sherri emphatically agreed with Elisabeth.

This time Hasselbeck was right on the money! Rarely ever do you hear a comedian joke about persons that they like or within the same political circle they are in. KG needs to disappear as she is a HASBEEN!

Then you must have missed the thousands upon thousands of Bill/Monica jokes the very liberal Joy(especially) and Kathy have told over the years. So many it got tired.

This is just Elisabeth sad attempt at trying to get back at Kathy for making a fool of her the last time she was on. I hate when people can only talk about someone behind their backs but not when they are face to face.

Silver you missed my point - there were jokes about Bill and jokes about Monica but there were never jokes about Chelsea. This opens a door that we dont want to walk through. Kids should continue to be off limits. They dont ask for the spotlight and shouldnt be forced into it by some comedian. I would say someone like Bristol Palin is a different story, since she continues to put herself out there as an individual, but children who are only famous by proximity deserve some respect.

And I am with Whoopi - if someone called by kid a ho on national tv, there would be a serious (verbal) throwdown.

I also dont get why all the scorn is heaped on Elisabeth in this sitution. Joy was the sole voice of disagreement.

They use to call Chelsea a dog, when she was younger. There were plenty of jokes about Chelsea when she was growing up, but that is completely different b/c she was a minor.

Again when their father basically tells guys hey my adult daughters are available, what comedian is not going to blow that up. It was his stupid comment that opened the door for Kathy and most other comedians.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Smile

Unless someone is really an idiot to be watching Kathy Griffin say that they're prostitutes and for a second believe it, well...idiot. Plus, anyone else notice that The View never showed the disclaimer that was actually shown on the episode of the D-List IMMEDIATELY after the joke was made? Yes, it was half-hearted, but the initial topic was about such a notice saying it was a joke.

As for Chelsea jokes, I remember that at least on television, a self-imposed moratorium on Chelsea jokes was put on pretty quickly once he was elected, since they were about her physical appearance.

Elisabeth is a complete jackass, but hypocritical self-absorbtion at least she makes for good TV.

Scott Brown opened the door himself for that joke. He said they were available after he won his election. Kathy played upon it. It was just a joke. I have to laugh at Liz and her Obama comparison. It's s**t like that, that makes me sick.

EH is so petty ... She made a fool of herself and was very rude with KG last time KG was a guest on the View and she is just looking for revenge because she was called for her childish and unprofessional behaviour.

Not a fan of KG but there was a disclaimer in her show about that IMMEDIATELY AFTER she said it (my son loves her) and of course EH would never allude to it ...
"Scum" ... No comment ... EH would almost make me love KG just because she hates the girl ...

Best thing to do : not lose my time in watching The View or Kathy Griffin ...

The serial killer comparison was ridiculous. Can't stand Elizabeth. Between this and her appearance on the View, Kathy is going to have some great material for her next Bravo special. Thanks Lizzie!

Elizabeth Hasselb**ch is a pure, unadulterated piece of crap!! I am not a HUGE Kathy Griffin fan, but I admire her a WHOLE hell of a lot more than Hassleb**ch. At least she doesn't pretend that her boo boo smells like roses when we all know it doesn't!!!! I despise EVERYTHING about Elizabeth-- from her phony, "pristine Sally" demeanor (gag me!) to that screechy voice of hers (yeah, she can't control her voice, but that doesn't mean that I can't make fun of her!! LOL!!) I blame Barbara Walters for keeping this useless woman on her payroll. What does she bring to the table??? She's not funny, not witty or clever, and she really has nothing to say other than spouting right-wing BS!!! There are THOUSANDS of other interesting, vivacious actresses or comedians who could fill her spot!!! I wish that Barbara would stop being lazy and complacent and just drop the axe on this chick!! Just saying......

Okay so how come no one is calling out Whoopi who said that if someone made that exact comment about her child she would "kick their ass".

Look I am not saying Brown should have made the joke in the first place, nor am I def. EH in any sort of global means. I am just saying that there use to be some sort of civility in politics at the very least when it came to someone's family. Brown's daughters, like Clintons or Bush's or the Obamas etc. had zero say in whether their parent was going to run for public office. I dont remember any real jokes made on tv about Chelsea but let me go on record as saying if there were they were ALSO out of line.

I think in this instance some of you are caught up in your hatred for EH rather than looking at the substance and merit of what she is saying IN THIS INSTANCE. But then again, what do I know - I am the same gal who winces every time one of my political friends takes a dig at someone in the opposing party when they pass. I didnt like it when some of my lib friends slammed Helms any more than I like it when some of my con friends slammed Byrd. I just think our political system needs more civility not less.

Oh and Alston - they keep EH around because it was never their goal to have a smart conservative at the table. They picked her to make that side of the debate look weak. There are plenty of brilliant, attractive conservative journalists out there that would have killed for that job and instead they picked someone from Survivor?? C'mon.

Kids should be off limits regardless of of which political party representative is elected. Politicians choose to run for office not their kids. Not classy or smart in anyway what a negative degrading comment for Kathy to say about these young women who are about to start their careers.

Okay, here are my comments on this entire matter (and yes, I will probably have tomatoes or worse tossed my way):

1--Let's go back to last year. David Letterman crossed a major line a comic or anyone for that matter should never cross and that is make disgusting comments about a politician's children. As some of you may remember, Letterman told a very crass and disgusting joke about Sarah Palin's teen-age daughter (under the age of 18) saying that she was getting poked (I don't remember the exact wording that was used by Letterman) by a Yankee baseball player during a commercial break (we know that it didn't happen, but the fact that he said it was deplorable). He later apologized not once, not twice, but several times to Sarah Palin and her family for the comment. He didn't know at the time that Sarah's daughter was under-age. That still doesn't excuse his behavior.

2--As a born-again Christian who just happens to be gay, I was completely disgusted and revolted by Kathy Griffin's distasteful jokes about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (during one of her HBO shows, which I had the unfortunate displeasure of viewing at an acquaintances house) and by doing that, she might as well have told all Christians to suck it. Do I as a Christian have to forgive her for it, YES I DO! Christ has called all of us to turn the other cheek and forgive those that have wronged us. I was appalled and have not nor will I ever be a fan of hers ever again.

3--Politicians themselves are fair game by late-night or other comics, but you do NOT make their children fair game. Ms. Griffin calling MA. Senator Scott Brown's daughters prostitutes was so vile and so disgusting, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets slapped with a defamation of character lawsuit by Senator Brown on behalf of his daughters.

4--Elisabeth Hasselbeck calling Kathy Griffin "scum" was probably not a good choice of wording but that's nothing compared to what Griffin called Sen. Brown's daughters. Do I condone what Elisabeth said about Kathy? No way!

5--Am I a Republican, no. Am I a Democrat, no. I'm a centrist or more to the point, a Libertarian. There are things about both of the major political parties that I like and don't like. So don't go start making me out to be some ultra right wing conservative or ultra left wing liberal.

Lastly, Kathy Griffin making the disgusting jokes about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is forgivable. But the only way that she's going to get out from under that is for her to ask God for forgiveness for slinging those nasty remarks about His Son. If she doesn't, may God have mercy on her soul.

There, I'll get off of my soapbox now.

Thank you Mr. Teale. Everything you said, I completely agree with. Truthfully, I would believe that about 80 to 90 percent of America would agree with you. However the 10 to 20 percent who disagree with you are much louder, and many post on the dc/pc confidential pages. But thank you for being a voice of reason.

Scooter,

You are very welcome. I knew that some balance was needed to be brought to this discussion. I think my comments ended up shutting a lot of people up because I don't think they knew what to say or how to respond to my comments.

Or maybe Matelestlmo, after your obnoxious comment taht you have shut us down, "they" have the feeling that you didn't even watch Kathy Griffin show or how she came to say it and expressed a disclaimer IMMEDIATELY after it ?

Thank god, I believe that we are more than 10-20% of American who will not react as if earth just opened at their feet because KG made some remarks about Christians or gays or republicans or democrats ...
The US used to be a country of freedom. Now you cannot even joke without having people patronizing you about right and wrong or calling remarks racists. We owe each other respect, that's a fact but we rae killing all spontaneity in this country because beware of what you are saying !

I am a Catholic and consider myself a Republican (more for economic reasons) but I agree with the posters who say that EH is a disgrace and has nothing to do on the View.
She is plain stupid and it is probably for that reason that she was selected to represent the conservative views ...
And what KG is doing for women, gays and cancer is far more important to me that some stupid jokes ...
