DC #565: Ilene Kristen Interview

On today’s episode of Daytime Confidential, Luke and Jamey welcome back one of DC’s favorite soap scene stealers, Ilene Kristen. The DC boys get to the bottom of why we haven’t seen much of Kristen’s hilariously-heartfelt character, Roxy Balsom of late on One Life to Live,

Were Roxy and Ilene casualties of ABC’s decision to "Kish off" her screen partner Brett Claywell and later Roxy’s newfound son Schuyler (Scott Clifton)? Roxy’s other son, Rex (John-Paul Lavoisier) was recently searching for his biological father and her daughter Natalie (Melissa Archer) is currently dealing with a "Who’s The Daddy?" pregnancy predicament, yet Roxy has strangely been missing from those stories. Kristen says she’s as confused by that as we are. Luke and Jamey also get the skinny on Kristen being cast in the most anticipated web sudser since Venice, Gregori J. Martin’s The Bay, and find out what else the amazingly-talented singer-actress has been up to.

Schuyler, NOT Rex, being her son was the stupidest thing the writers could have done. The ramifications literally threw Roxy to the curb and the character who had so much history at that point didn’t deserve that. Now, including the kabosh on Kish, she has little to no ties to anybody, except for the fact she’s more of a “surrogate mother” to Natalie and Rex. If anybody could use the notion of “surrogacy” and put it back into the story in such a way that it would educate the audience that we don’t all have to be bonded by blood to be “family” it would be the head writer, Ron C. I feel bad, Roxy may keep “rolling” but we never get to see her character deal with her losses. The character needs love in her life, this shouldn’t be so tragic.

I love Ilene Kristen and hope that the PTB will end their silience soon. I hope that we’ll get to see Roxy agaun and with a decent storyline this time, but I doubt if even the fans demanding an answer will do any good. Frons and company don’t eant to listen to us, they’ve proven it time and again. In the meantime, I’ll continue to watch Ilene in anything she’s in.
