I'm very upset about Jason Tam; I love him and I love Marco. I don't know if things would be different if Mr. Tam had not taken a leave of absence this summer. With Jason gone, and no recast, his story had to go in a different direction. I will miss him very much and I wish him the very best. He is a huge talent.
Terrell Tilford had to see the writing on the wall, given the direction that his character has been following. It's ironic, as I was watching today's episode, I was wondering how and if Greg would be redeemed. I have to say that the character of Greg always struck me as incomplete. I know that he is this great surgeon but Greg always seemed disconnected from everyone around him, including his family. Soap characters have to interact and relate otherwise they won't work out well. I don't think that this is the actor's fault. I think that Greg was never fully fleshed out in the way that Destiny and Shawn are. It is too bad but I also think that the character has been written into a hole from which there is no way out. Unless, of course Greg is working undercover for the FBI, as so many characters seem to be these days; sadly, without this, Greg has to be a goner.

Yeah, a recast would've helped about a week after Tilford came onboard; I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt because my only previous experience with him was when he replaced Monti Sharp on GUIDING LIGHT(and those who know Sharp's talent and Tilford's lack of probably can imagine how that went down)but I figured maybe that was just a case of an actor being irreplaceable. That wasn't it--Tilford is just a really bad actor, plain and simple. Yeah, he's extremely easy on the eyes, but so are a lot of actors who should probably never open their mouths onscreen. Now, if they had got someone like maybe Peter Parros from ATWT and kept Daphne Duplaix they might've actually made some headway and I think Parros could've made the character interesting. As is, I'm so glad to see Tilford and the character go. Can't wait for Cole to head off next.

Well let me clarify my reason for saying what I did...at the start of 2009, we had the Evans family: Shaun, Destiny, Richard, Phylicia, and Greg; we had Rachel Gannon, pseudo legacy character with mixed heritage not only in her blood but her religious faith; we had Dr. Vivian Wright, and most of all Layla; we had the Latino-Americans, Carlotta, Antonio, Cristian, Téa,Dani,Markko and his family; we have no Asians, which I never understand why on daytime there are none...; there were homosexuals in the popular Fish and Kyle characters...and Nick, the gay hispanic character; as well as Mel and Mme. Del. We still had our rich Lords, Buchanans, and Cramers (whom hispanic Langston is a part of) and our struggling Vegas and Balsoms. But most importantly, everybody was a little more intertwined in everyone else's business. Now of that diverse group it has all dwindled down to Shaun, Destiny (granted she is on contract but she ain't seen that much), Richard, Phylicia, Vivian, Layla, Carlotta, and Cristian, all reduced to being fringe characters; the only ones left are Téa, Dani and Langston. And we become introduced to and the Price brothers (relation to Sheila or Ben?),and Latina Inez, though her offspring don't look like they have an ounce of latino blood running through their veins. Now yeah it is true that we traded characters for other characters. But here is the thing...what was wrong with the ones established? Why not do more with them, give them more family ties...could Greg or Shaun gotten involved with Layla after Rachel left? Could Inez have been a Ernesto Rivera's sister and had a son, a cousin for Marrko who became involved with Dani...sorry I just think the characters and attitudes established are such a gift, why trade out one for the other that you almost have to reestablish. I guess I just put myself in another actor's shoes...if I was black and my passion was to act, would it not be hard when all the stories that are front and center are mainly about the white people. ONE LIFE could totally usurp the ratings if it just stuck to it's original premise and told some more grittier stories, especially now - in a time civil rights are challenged and the tea party is bringing back some hateful attitudes. Sorry too much to rant from the Clorox kid in Madison, Wisconsin.

Bye Markko! Bye Greg.

Maybe OLTL is going to place Shawn, Vivian, Darrin and his brother on contract?

Okay, David, maybe I shouldn't have written, "There always are", but the rest of what I wrote is true.

A recast won't do. It's more about who the show thinks is valuable, and who the show thinks is expendable. If the show gets rid of the people it deems expendable, then it frees up money to bring in others, including heavy "name" actors from other or defunct soaps.

How do you think they can afford Kim Zimmer, and to recast Joey with a name actor, or to bring back Roger Howarth, if they don't cut the cast a bit? The show is desperate now, and they are doing some draconian things to stay afloat.

It just sucks that most of the people cut are my favorites. I don't really watch anymore, so I guess I should just stop whining.

Both of these characters have been dead weight for a long time and should have been removed ages ago. I think it's unfair to say that this signals a "white wash" of the show just because the two boring, useless characters happpen to be minorities.

The show signed the actress who plays Destiny to a contract a while back and they've been writing for her a lot. Shaun also gets a lot of airtime for a recurring character, and there's potential for Vivian being shown a lot more as well.

Yes, they axed the gays, and believe me I was furious at the decision and especially how it was handled. They also killed off Evangeline for no good reason and shipped off Rachel Gannon, even though they had finally found a competent actress would made the character work.

Cutting the gays was obviously in response to some of the backlash the story received, but dumping the rest was storyline dictated. And say what you will about the Fords, but the matriarch is a Hispanic-born woman.

I think OLTL does better than most shows at trying to feature a diverse array of characters, so I think the bashing and accusations is a little off base. IMO

"Storyline-dictated" is just about the most over-used cliché there is in daytime. Who is it that dictates these stories? It's certainly not the fans.

There was no reason, apart from laziness or lack of interest on the part of the writers and producers or misplaced priorities, why story could not be created for the "established" minority characters of the Vegas and Gannons.

There are other characters (non-minorities) on the show that are not exactly heating up the screen with their performances and/or are not being featured in front-burner stories, but TPTB are not about to get rid of them. Why is that exactly?

All My Children beats any other soap hands downs when it comes to diversity. They use their African American characters. And show that they are just as important as their Caucasian counterparts. So that's where other soaps could take their cue from since black women are the glue that is holding what's left of this industry together.

I really will miss Jason Tam and I'm surprised the show even brought him back just to rush him off.
As for Terrill Tillford I never really cared for him much.

After being a life-long (40+ year) viewer of OLTL, I don't give a rat's patootie what happens to the show anymore. The Kish storyline was one of the absolute BEST that any soap had ever done. After spending months and months getting "invested" in the storyline, OLTL simply yanked the rug right out from under Kish and the long-time viewers of the show, and the slapped them across the face for good measure. I believe Kish was the beginning of the end of OLTL, coupled with the departures of the wonderful Daphne Duplaix and the also talented Scott Clifton. Then you add the departures of Crystal Hunt and Amanda Setton, and this show ended up nothing but rubbish!

It appears that all of the above characters (Kish, et. al.) were sacrificed for RIGI (Rex/Gigi) who TPTB seemed to think were going to be their next SUPERCOUPLE! Well, Gigi is the absolute WORST thing that ever happened to OLTL, yet TPTB still put her front and center and keep shoving her in viewers' faces hoping she will "stick" someplace. They should have kept all the characters from this past year that they "dumped", and got rid of Gigi instead. Farah Fath has contributed absolutely NOTHING to OLTL from Day 1 and is one of the absolute worst actresses in daytime. Couple that with her wacky hairdos, black eyes, and overdone lip gloss, and she is nothing more than OLTL's biggest clown. (She looks like an albino raccoon with a severe lip gloss addiction). And I, for one, am sick of seeing very talented "vets" on this show being used to "prop" this no-talent bimbo when THEY should be the ones getting the good storylines! Probably the ONLY reason they kept Christian on the show was so they would have SOMEBODY to prop the gawd-awful Gigi, once again! And they dumped Melissa Gallo Fumero for this wreck of a character too!

I also think the whole Ford family is a joke. These guys were brought on the show to be nothing more than eye candy. AND, that's basically the only thing viewers like about them or see in them. No talent. No storylines. Just three pretty boys with beefy bods. They are nothing more than male "bimbos." I have no desire to watch these "The Three Stooges". And I won't even go into what I think about the Ford's mother, Inez!

Unfortunately, OLTL isn't even a shell of what it once was, no matter how many big names they bring on, how much beefcake the bring on, etc. It used to be such a "quality" show, but now it's basically a total joke!

I left when Kish was "thrown under the bus" and blamed for everything wrong with OLTL! Now they KNOW Kish wasn't the problem, but rather could have been their SOLUTION! Over 300,000 viewers quit watching when Kish was dumped (I was one of them), and never returned because of the way they were dumped and the way they were treated AFTERWARDS, being accused of bad behavior and blamed for everything wrong with OLTL. Well, ABC Disney should have "dumped" the real culprits who have destroyed this show .... Brian Frons and Frank Valentini! These two obviously under-estimated the power of the "mainstream" viewers. FV blamed the "mainstream viewers" for his decision to dump Kish, but the "mainstream viewers" (me included) are the majority of viewers who quit watching the show when Kish was dumped. I would say Mr. Valentini "cut off his nose to spite his face" big time. If Kish were still on OLTL (and Rachel, Schuyler, Roxy, et. al.), I truly believe OLTL would be the top ABC soap at this point and would be giving the CBS soaps a run for their money. JMHO!

Jardo, have to say I agree with alot of what you said. Mainly, the whole Farah Fath situation--I've been at a loss since I started tuning back into this show about a year and a half ago. The only actress on daytime that's possibly worse is Denise Vasi from AMC. People went on for months about Crystal Hunt and all of her "phoned-in" performances. I'm sorry, what exactly do you people think Fath has been doing for at least the last year and a half? Is that what's passing for acting these days? No wonder daytime has such a damn stigma with regards to talent(or in this case, lack thereof). She actually brings JPL down in their scenes together and frankly he needs all the help he can get himself. Granted, she's good with the snappy one-liners, but there's more to acting than one-liners (see Y&R's Liz Hendriksen for a study on how to do range, with a little snarky on the side, successfully). I'm just mind-boggled with TPTB's fascination with this "actress"; I'm sure she's a wonderful person(although, reading some of her interviews, I'm giving her a very big benefit of the doubt) but really? This is the person you want to continue giving valuable frontburner time to? It's even more sad that they're willing to let Florencia Lozano sit in a coma off screen for a month or completely waste Susan Haskell on throwaway, five-minute storylines but hey let's keeping pushing Gigi down everyone's throat. It's a puzzle I don't think I'll ever understand.
