HomeTVABCJames Franco Returns To General Hospital Jillian Bowe December 8, 2010 ABC, General Hospital, News, Soap Opera 22 Comments . Franco-mania commences in the new year. According to TV Guide’s Michael Logan, James Franco will reprise his role on General Hospital in 2011. The actor will head to Port Charles the day before his hosting duties at the Oscars, Feb 27 and will continue the day after. Franco will stick around GH a bit longer later on in the year. Showrunner Jill Farren Phelps stated: When we realized James would be in L.A. for the Oscars and all the other awards shows, we asked if he’d consider coming back and doing a little something for us," Phelps says. "He was happy to do it and requested that we use the appearance to plug his next story. He’s also expressed an interest in directing at GH. He’s been really, really good to us. Whatever James wants, we’d love to make it happen!" I thought the 1st stint was terrible, 2nd was ok, who knows how the 3rd one will be? I hope it’s better than all the rest. I LOVE James Franco and all of his work, though. I hope he gets better material on GH next year. Very cool that this is going to be plugged at the Oscars! I love James Franco but I HATE the character of Franco his stints havent been that great and when Tyler Christopher out acts him you know its bad (hey I love TC and JF but JF cannot soap act) Log in to Reply JaSamLover December 9, 2010 Gag me with a freaking spoon. Ugh. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 December 9, 2010 Talk about kissing someone’s ass. I guess James Franco could come and ask to play head writer for a few weeks and Phelps would just say: “Anything you want James Almighty” >) I really like James Franco … but his character on GH is just terrible. He shouldn’t return! But hey, we all know GH doesn’t care what viewers want. :X Log in to Reply jlafferty23 December 9, 2010 Oh you guys are such Debbie downers. I love James Franco and he is going to bring the mainstream medias attention to GH, thats always a good thing! Plus him appearing a couple days before the oscars, what if he mentions GH as a host at the award show? I personally loved Franco the character. I like him the first time better then I did the second time, the second time was a bit stranger, but the first time was golden with all of his one liners, loved it! Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 December 9, 2010 I admit that I kinda like the Franco character, and I also find James Franco to be one of the most fascinating actors in Hollyweird!!! I don’t feel the same sense of dread and nausea that most of the rest of you do!! And besides….we ALL knew he’d be back EVENTUALLY!! Log in to Reply watchingallday December 9, 2010 I fell like I am the little kid from the Emperor has no Clothes. EVERYTHING about him on this show has been horrible! His acting, the story, the character, and the ratings-all HORRIBLE! I don’t understand how after TWO failed stints, she would invite him back for a third and fourth. It just scream to me that she, Guza, and Frons do not get it. I understand wanting the buzz and mainstream press, but they have had that twice now, and it amounted to nothing but lower ratings, ticked off fans, and a horrible story. Good for James Franco and his Oscar buzz and stuff, but that is no reason to once again give him the reigns of this show and let him subject us to more of this ridiculousness. I have been unhappy with the show for months and threatening to stop watching (some days I don’t), but this really is just an offense to far. I will NOT watch this! Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 December 9, 2010 exactly! he acts like he can just come and go as he pleases while the writers have to change storylines to accommodate him. I love James Franco, I think he’s great at comedy and drama but not soaps. He’ll suck up air time from well the same ole characters but still. Log in to Reply MargaritavilleGirl December 9, 2010 I agree. Luv James Franco! Can’t wait for him to come back! Log in to Reply laduke19 December 9, 2010 No, just no. Seriously, how many ways are there to say no? I like James Franco as an actor on his non-GH stuff, but the character of Franco was a hot mess that ate the whole show and screwed with the timelines of all the other stories. I can usually enjoy campy on my soaps, but Franco wasn’t even campy in an entertaining way. And it’s not like Franco brought GH higher ratings. And do I really need to see yet another character on GH that slobbers all over St. Jasus? Log in to Reply angrierblackerman December 9, 2010 I love James Franco, but I think it’s a bit insulting how these Hollywood celebs can command so much respect and power from soap show runners, but the actual soap actors on said soaps will get punished for speaking up, or asking for a storyline. Monica can’t get a story arc, but Franco can? Maybe they think this will bring more buzz to GH, but I doubt it. Log in to Reply keanna December 9, 2010 I looooooove James Franco, but I agree with the majority, his character is just bad. They could’ve went so many different ways with him. But no they had to make him obsessed with Jason. Maybe they’re hoping for buzz, because his latest movie 127 Hours is getting Oscar buzz, but I think that ship has sailed. Log in to Reply GHvetfan December 9, 2010 Boo!!!His kidnapping GH makes me want to not watch the Oscars. His plots are always foolish. I do not expect much. Log in to Reply shancy December 9, 2010 remember he is already tied to Brenda he sent his agent to ask her to pose for him “Jason’s ex-wife connection”. Log in to Reply ConqueringBlue December 9, 2010 I understand why JFP would be excited to have James Franco on the show, and it’s nice that he’s willing to keep coming back, especially with all the Oscar buzz, but I do agree that he tends to hold the show hostage whenever he’s in town. Then again, it’s kinda what Brenda is doing right now. Egads, Franco AND Brenda? Guza must be salivating LOL The problem with JF’s last stint is that the climax was such a mashup of crap. It didn’t make any sense, it was thrown together in a jumble of nonsense. Franco jumped from the roof, a hitman AND a cop both watch and neither one checks the body to see if it’s him before leaving? I enjoyed his second stint at first, watching him interact with various residents of PC, but the whole MOCA exhibit was AWFUL. It’s like Guza said, “Let’s finish this up now so we can get ready for Brenda!” I’m a little skeptical to see what his future stints will be, but I’m willing to keep an open mind. I find JF to be a little fascinating. Strange, but fascinating. I just don’t like him, like at all, like in anything he acts on! Need I say more! Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens December 9, 2010 I haven’t enjoyed any of the Franco storyline, however I don’t blame GH one bit for continuing to write him in. If it gets a soap opera mentioned in the same sentence as the Oscars, so be it. Need I say more![/quote] I haven’t seen much works by him. Other than “Milk” which I have watched in little snippets, nor did I watch “Eat Pray Love”. For me, the movies do not do justice to those books. Him coming to GH doesn’t pan out to much. The ratings still suck!!! Log in to Reply met December 9, 2010 Why is he coming back? He uses GH as if he owns shares in the show. First time it was ok, but now it’s getting old. He need to go back to making movies and leave our depress soap already. He is just coming back to take up air time, while much needed characters are sent to the back burner. The ratings still suck, so there is no need for him to traipse back onto the set. Log in to Reply ahanshew December 10, 2010 JF is just not a good soap actor. He’s too campy and GH is NOT campy. I’m indifferent.
