Top 10 Babies Who Didn't Know Where They Were in 2010

No. 4: Brittany Allen, All My Children

Marissa Tasker was quite possibly the most ill-conceived All My Children character of the decade, yep including the unaborted fetus-turned-socipath. AMC never should have bothered creating Babe’s (Alexa Havins) fraternal twin in the first place. While fans loved Havins, many hated her character. Amanda Baker, Havins' replacement, never caught on in the part, which made Babe being turned into a human shish kabob the only redeeming part of Chuck Pratt's Tornado From Hell a few years back. So again, what exactly was the point of Marissa? Compound the pointlessness of the character with Brittany Allen’s lethargic acting, lack of screen presence and/or chemistry with her male leads in a front burner storyline, and fans had to choke down a perfectly unwatchable quadrangle in 2010. We can't say we're sad to see Allen go, not that we have high hopes for her replacement. (See No. 8 )

There ought to be more lists like this, not less.

And as for those soap-themed websites that don't allow their readers to express their opinions fully, they really should not have the Comment feature, since they are not really welcoming of comments that don't agree with those of the moderators' (SoapCentral.com, I mean you, for one.)

For the past few years, I've felt frustrated both by the obvious mistakes made by the soap industry and by my inability to find a place where my opinions were shared by others or where I could at least vent them.

Thank God for DC! You guys really made my 2010. I expect you to do the same in 2011.

P.S. I was seriously disappointed by Gina Tognoni's performances this year.

Soaprookie, I recall how the Disney channel had the budget to offer classes to its stars on how to handle themselves. Not sure if Demi was so burnt out that that didn't help.

I really don't think they have that extra padding. I just watched Steamboat just hilarious soap parody where nearly ever shooting took place in front of greenscreen (so that it was just one set).

"Yet, there are still many actors who shine in the genre, while others...do not. How do you explain that?"

I dunno if this is any better. I'm often reminded of Maura West of ATWT, who shone in anything given. But is it entertaining to see a great soap actress playing shoddy soap material?

All she seems to be is a constant reminder that the sub-standard AMC of today lost an A-list actress when it let Alexa Havins go

I don't think AMC let AH go, she's the one that wanted to leave and try her fortune in primetime.

The bottom line (for me) is that the weight of the lack of rehearsal, the quick pace of shooting scenes, and the even quicker rate at which the scripts are cranked out cannot all be put upon the shoulders of the actors.

The bottom line (for me) is that some actors just plain suck.
There are plenty of actors that can turn sh*t into sugar and then there are those than cannot.

Simple, not every storyline and character is treated the same. There are lots of characters better fleshed out from the beginning and so the actors have more to work with. And/or they are given more of a storyline so that the sum total of their character is not the parts and pieces of others storylines.

For those who have been playing the same character for years (and ARE good actors)...they know their character so well (better then the latest round of head writers) that they could be given a blank piece of paper and still come up with something that the audience can connect with.

And then there are really good veteran actors who come into soaps and do poorly because they simply cannot handle the quick pace.

But I feel that the majority of actors...who know their craft...and can handle the fast soap pace...who are given decent direction and material (character and/or story)...will do well. For the 5 actors I am more familiar with on this list...I feel...for them there was a lack in direction and/or material.

Troy, I see how you took my reference to Alexa, but I meant that they let her get away (I shouldn't have written "let her go" because of the way it sounds). I've always felt they could have sweetened the pot to keep her around if they really wanted to. Even if Justin wanted to go to L.A. at the time, they could've done the bi-coastal thing, if the idiots in charge had ponied up the dough.

I think there is a difference between being a "fan girl" and a "soap fan." Because I classify myself as the latter, I don't take exception to the NATURE of this list. I believe it is a soap journalists job to critique. The issue that I do have with the list is that it lacks the polish and insight that I would expect from a credible source on soaps or any other medium. It feels alittle amateurish and short sided, IMO.

(References to someone "making an ass" of themselves or "looking constipated" are critiques I would expect to read in a junior high slam book, not from someone who expects to be taken seriously...perhaps that is not their intended goal.)

I cannot imagine a Daniel Day Lewis or an Al Pacino thriving in a soap opera pace. Yikes!

I'm at a loss. I don't normally visit this site and now I know why. First I will say I disagree strongly with this writer's opinion of Jessica Leccia's performances. That, however, is not my issue with this article. Actors know and expect they will receive criticism and my guess is, if it's given respectfully, they use that criticism to help make them better actors. This list doesn't do that. This pertains to everyone on the list, not just Jessica. It is not only poorly written, but this writer obviously has never heard the words Constructive Criticism before. The insults were not only unprofessional, they were childish and just plain cruel. Most offensive to me, under Jessica's comments, was this writers use of the words "us" and "we" in his extremely mean spirited comments. He or she is making a huge and very misguided (not to mention presumptuous) assumption that everyone who reads his lists agree with ever word he spews. Not the case. This writer really needs to take a class on the proper way to offer criticism. I can respect anyone who says they don't care for Jessica's performance or her character Inez as long as they are saying it with a respectful reason why and don't result to insults and personal attacks a third grader wouldn't use. Whoever wrote this..if you were trying to be witty and funny...you failed. Miserably Why don't you take a look at yourself. It's easy for you to be rude and insulting to people who put themselves out there for people like you who can't act, to criticize. Put yourself in their shoes. Why don't you try being constructive for a change.

Jessica Leccia is an excellent actress whose subtlety and understated style may be unappreciated or misunderstood. She has the ability to express despair, joy, or anger with a furrowed brow, an impish grin, or a glaring stare. She meshed beautifully with Crystal Chappell in the Otalia story line; the two were in perfect balance.

Jessica will succeed in her new role as Inez. She has a quiet power, immense talent, and extraordinary beauty that cannot fail.

I'm still trying to figure out the point of this "list" it is poorly written, disrespectful to the actors and insulting to fans.
Why in the state Daytime is in are we focusing on negative. I am disappointed.

Scout, how dare you?! That's offensive!! How dare you talk about our Lady and Savior Jessica Leccia like that! BLASPHEMY!! Laughing out loud

For the record, I do like JL. I don't think she's a great actress but when she hits it she hits it good, when she doesn't... Eh.

Okay, I have a question. Is this list actors that can't act the material they are given (being a lost baby) or actors that don't have the material to act? Because some of these actors are good with decent material, but when not even the writers know what the character is about, how can the actor know? I mean, not everybody can be like Kim Zimmer, Crystal Chappell or Michelle Stafford.

Jessica Leccia is a phenomenal actress, she does more with a look or gesture than some can to with pages of dialogue. On OLTL Inez is a character we didn't know much about, and the writing with filling in the blanks might not have been the best but with the way Jessica has portrayed Inez has made me care and invested in this character. It's Jessica' work on GL that made me a fan, I watch OLTL because Jessica is on the show and will continue to be a fan and support Jessica's work past, present and future.

I suggest the writer of this article watch her work on Venice, she is amazing.

Ok, first of all, I'm not a Jessica Leccia fan, well not to the degree that many people commenting seem to be. However, she would certainly not be anywhere near my top 10 list of actors that need work either. Where's Shelley Hennig? She's only starting to breathe life into Stephanie, at the very end of 2010. Or Lindsay Hartley? Or Nadia Bjorlin as Chloe (She does very well as Lara on Venice, but if Chloe is on my screen for one more second *shudder*)?

Jessica Leccia is a younger actress, and I don't think it's fair to put her acting up against a veteran in the business like Crystal Chappell, who could act rings around many of the actresses in daytime. I think Jessica Leccia has a lot of potential, and I certainly don't fast forward her like many of the younger actresses on daytime, which says a lot to me.

When I first saw the title of this thing, I thought it was a list of people that had come onto another soap with a similar character, and Inez does have a lot of similarities to Natalia. I didn't realize people were criticizing acting ability.

This is an accurate list. It's interesting to see that some actors on this list were fan and critic favorites in other roles on different soaps. I am glad someone finally mentioned the fact Sean Young's stint on Y&R was a bust performance wise for the actress and that while Bree Williamson has certainly grown as an actress, she still has a way to go.

While I can appreciate the Nadia Bjorlin's of the soap industry (actresses who are hot, hot, hot, but who need to spend more time with an acting coach than on the beach), it is the solid performances from strong talented actors like Nancy Grahn (Alexis, GH) and Susan Flannery (Stephanie, B&B) that keep fans tuning in and caring about what happens on the shows.

The problem with this Top 10 list is that it reads amateurish – the title alone is off-putting. You expect more from these actors/actresses in their delivery. Fair enough. I expect more from you too – maybe more content next time instead of “witty” insults passing as journalism.

Wait. First of all, let's remember that it's Procter & Gamble, with an 'er' at the end, not an 'or', as many of us who have protested P&G over many many years could remind us all.

And, second of all, it was CBS who cancelled both ATWT and GL. And, it wasn't even CBS Daytime that canceled the first of the two - GL. The decision came from above with CBS Daytime, P&G and people at the show thinking that they were getting a pick-up the next morning - not the axe that was handed them. Clearly at that time someone at CBS, from high above, decided THEN that both of the P&G soaps were going one after another, with a year in between.

And, in your last sentence, I can only guess that you meant to say that the production company had a sweet deal where the network paid them for two hours of programming, but, nothing could be further from the truth. What CBS was paying was already strained to the limits, ... not anyone's idea of a sweet deal. The sweet deals of the soaps are in the past & have been since the first half of the 90s. Nobody has seen one in ages - not a network or a production company. The only sweet deal left is the international distribution that Bradley Bell has going for The Bold & the Beautiful, something they have courted & tended year after year to great success!

You had no space on this list for Kristian Alfonso?

Days of Our Lives backed their 'veteran diva' strongly for the last 8 months or so both on screen but more importantly in their marketing machine and she proved disappointing to say the least.

Perhaps Salem execs might have learned that it is important to back talent rather than tradition when your show is flagging.

Oooohhh, Kristian Alfonso!! Now baby was real lost. How many storylines they gave her last year and she failed to deliver? NTHope, the Alice funeral and this prison nonsense. That's three, three failed s/l that ate the goddamn show.

Hmm. I wonder if that was their reason for including her on this list. More subscribers.

And I disagree with the person who said Nadia Bjorlin is hot. That's a personal opinion however, totally unrelated to the topic at hand, and probably related to my dislike of Chloe at the moment. For me, acting ability is worlds more important than looks.

Shallotpeel, thanks for the schooling, but it was P&G who wanted the plug pulled on their last two soaps. CBS just did the dirty work and took the brunt of the criticism. P&G, who paid the production costs of both soaps and bought the time from CBS since the days of radio, wanted to cancel both GL and AWTW simultaneously but CBS wouldn't go for it because it would've been too much backlash from fans.

While rumors of Jessica Leccia's supernatural abilities may have been greatly exaggerated (sometimes by me...I'm an unapologetic fan) what she CAN do is insight a good soap debate. I enjoy that.

Have to say I agree with ALOT of what's on the list. First off, however, not to add to the Jessica Leccia lovefest(I actually didn't watch GL during the time she was on), but I wouldn't have put her on this list at all. I agree with what alot of people on here have said about her; she's never gonna be one of those actresses that beats you over the head with her acting/scenery chewing(paging Kim Zimmer, Robin Strasser, and any number of great actresses on daytime including my beloved Michelle Stafford). There's something to be said for subtlely and frankly I thinks she's been great on OLTL. And I'm not sure why she's on a list of actors that didn't know where they were that doesn't include Farah Fath(the weakest actor, male or female, on OLTL) or that walking spray tan advert Nadia Bjorlin(she's gorgeous, but man can she not act).

Having said that, everyone else on this list probably deserves to be on it, just maybe not in the particular order they're in. First, Denise Vasi should be numero uno as she is hands down the worst actress in daytime. Second, Terrell Tilford, whose incredibly attractive but has not one ounce of charisma, should probably be a little higher as well as he managed to suck the life out of every scene he was in(probably number two). Zima safely rounds out the Top 3(P.S. Mentioning Wilson Bethel brings back very fond memories of that gorgeous body...of work, that is Wink ).

As for the rest of the list, the only other individual I may not have put on there would've been Bree Williamson. First off, as I've mentioned here on numerous occasions, I am by no means a BW fan; she's far and away OLTL's most overrated actress and the whole Jessica-is-a-teenager again storyline was an unqualified hot mess punctuated by Williamson's strange "acting" choices(I'll say yet again--delivering your lines in a blank, sing-song cadence does not qualify as range). But I don't think she's one of the ten worst of the year by no means(again, Fath should be on this list and pretty high on it at that).

Also, glad someone has finally mentioned the disaster that was Sean Young. Monotone line delivery, not to mention failing to actually blink in scenes, makes me wonder who was the bigger bot on Y&R, her or Zima.
