Now we'll find out whether those dreadful storylines were all Maria's or whether it was the Roach that was responsible.

The Roach has been in daytime about 20 years too long. Better late than never, I guess, although I think it's people like him, who do nothing but regurgitate old, played-out storylines, that are responsible for the genre's troubles today.

If The Roach had retired just after his time at OLTL, I think he'd be remembered as a legend. After all, this man made Another World the number one soap and gave Tina Lord her best stories at OLTL. I'll forever be grateful to him for giving us the Buchanans. He stuck around past his prime, however, and caused all the shows he's done since then to lose viewers.

Okay, I won't lie. I LIVED and DIED for OLTL during the Rauch era, but I'm noticing this guy does have a pattern. His tenture begins really well (AW-the awesomeness of Iris, OLTL-Viki/Niki, better background music, location stories, GL-better sets and wardrobe, Annie Dutton wit her just right crazy bat ass fallin down the Spauldings staircase, Y&R-Paris location, return of Ashley, Chris Engen doin the damn thing as creepy twerp Adam) then he takes a turn for the worse with clones, electric chairs, "Mores the pity", San Cristobel, Eddie Winslow playing Malcolm, writing off Dorian Lord in her prime during the 80's and I can't wait to hear Jamey Giddens sound off on the destruction Rauch did to the beloved "Santa Barbara". Let's just hope Frons doesnt have any ideas about bringing this fool aboard, though I'd love to hear Peabo Bryson singing the OLTL theme song again. Oh well...ON TO THA NEXT! ON TO THA NEXT! Shit make me Y&R's EP, I'd set it off...

The only time I liked his work was when he was on GL in the late 90s. Annie throwing herself down that staircase and blaming Reva for it was my FAVORITE story of the late 90s. And as akbad pointed out, he also was behind giving us Cassie and Richard and San Cristobel, not to mention Olivia (Crystal Chappell!). And I must admit that I didn't CRINGE as much as everyone else did when he allowed them to clone Reva Shayne, but I wonder how much credit for those stories goes to him and how much goes to the WRITERS, Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown, who were head-writing at the time?????

I can't comment on his work from any of the other shows because I wasn't actively watching during those times.

Actually, the Buchanans were on OLTL before Rauch got there, but I agree that it was him that really brought the family into view. I think he was channelling Texas, another show that he did great work on.

Alstonboy4315--

I forgot he gave me Richard and Cassie! OMG I loved those two so much. Did you cry when he died? I know I did and I dropped GL like a early morning class after that I also will never forget Annie and Reva's rivalry for wack ass Josh. They fought like cats and dogs over that man, and crazy Annie went berserk. Now you missed out if missed OLTL during his tenture. Everybody on DC praises that soap, but Rauch's era dominates. Check out some Tina Lord and Gabrielle Medina clips on YouTube to see what I'm talking about.

Actually the Buchanans were front and center since 1981. They were also HEAVILY featured (in weak stories but I digress) before Roach showed up on the scene.

akbad--

When Cynthia Watros left GL in 1998, my viewership of that show became spotty. I would watch it sporadically here and there, but never made it a priority again. I was in high school back in 1998, but after I graduated and started my adult life, a few years went by when I really didn't have the time to watch ANY of the soaps regularly, so I missed a lot of backstory. I actually don't remember catching Richard's death. I feel that GL's writing started to disintegrate around 2000 and never recovered.

I have nothing good to say about this hack. What he did to Santa Barbara in its final years negates any good he may have done over the years. To add insult to injury, he made the last scene of that series all about him. What the HELL was the last scene doing being anything about this guy who ran a once-great show into the ground? The arrogance of having HIM walk from spotlight to spotlight into (what should have been) obscurity still stands for me as the worst thing I have ever witnesses on daytime TV! Good riddance, you self-indulgent moron! Go away and shrivel up somewhere.

This man, this ROACH, murdered my Santa Barbara. My viewership of that show began with its very first episode during my first year of junior high. It was the first soap I ever saw and I completely identified with the characters, hence my handle.

Paul Rauch made it unwatchable and was really the cause of its cancellation. There should be a special place reserved in soap hell for him.

@ Capwell I knew a Santa Barbara fan would sound off eventually LOL! My granny never whopped us between 2p-3p when "Eden and Cruz and dem" (her words, not mine) was on, but after it got canceled...baby we was pulling switches every day. Damn you Paul Rauch.

akbad806, I think we had the same grandmother. Smile Mine would actually take her phone off the hook while that opening music began blaring from the TV.

Santa Barbara was my first (and still favorite soap)--I remember that last scene with PR. What a douche and what a horrible taste left in the mouth of the very few remaining fans of the show. A hundred bucks says he goes to OLTL, ya'll know by now how this business works.........

This is very positive news for The Young & the Restless. Paul Rauch should never have been an Executive Producer at Y&R. His style was/is not a good fit for the show.

CBS, Les Moonves and Maria Arena Bell need only walk next door to find The Young & the Restless' next Executive Producer - Edward Scott. Bill Bell would approve and be very proud.

I don't mean to be ageist; but if he's been in the business over fifty years, he's got to be between 80 and 100 years old, the tastefully done plastic surgery notwithstanding. Why would anybody expect him to come up with new ideas?

1 down, 3 to go...

Honestly not that surprised he's leaving after Maria's recent promotion to sole executive producer.

I can take Maria by herself, if Rauch takes Hamner and Sheffer (especially Sheffer) with him.

^^ Agreed. Y&R was quite good when it was JUST MAB.

FYI: Wasn't Scott Hamner Lynn Marie Latham's co-head writer at Port Charles?

What exactly are the duties of an executive producer. I have never really been given a clear answer. All I know is that it has to do with production (acting, set, and etc.).
