Rebecca Herbst STAYING With General Hospital?!

What a good way to wake up in the morning. I go on Facebook and I have a message from loyal DC reader Gush900 asking me if I'd heard the "big GH news". I wipe my eyes, yawn, then type back "What big GH news?" I start to wonder if maybe Genie Francis is returning to General Hospital as a dark-haired mob moll named Dahlia Concepcion? So then I go get a cup of coffee, come back and log into Twitter and what do I see, but this gem tweeted early this morning by ABC Soaps in Depth:

Breaking news: Becky Herbst (Liz) NOT leaving #GH? You heard it hear first! Details soon....

Looks like the fans, they have a' SPOKEN!

Well Beans...I think Jason would shoot himself if he ever took Carly on!!!
Big smile
Carly is the type of women who probably needs to be alone. If you think about CarJax, there love was so deep, yet she still couldn't break away from her Jason & Sonny. That being said, she should probably be alone for awhile. I do think she is going to get with Shawn.

I liked the character of Courtney. Alot. And I liked her with Jason. However, the love of Jason's life, the one who can live his lifestyle and not ask questions and know when to step back is Sam. They compliment one another.

I have this guy friend that I went to highschool with. Always wanted to end up with him. Anyway, after much dating around, after HE broke many hearts, he got with a women who was like 5 years older than he was. Ugly.
NOBODY could figure out what a nice looking guy like that would want with her.
Long story short, 18 years later they are still together. They never married. Never had children. But I seen them together. And honestly, they compliment one another.
It works for them when you find your soul mate.

JAQ- You put it perfectly in saying that Sam and Jason compliment each other. That is how I look at love in life. I believe you can love more than one person but there is one that will truly be your "soulmate" and you will compliment each other. For Jason, I believe he LOVES Carly, loved Courtney and loved/loves Liz and LOVES Sam. But as you said, Sam and Jason compliment each other. No matter who he has loved in the past, or who still holds a part of his heart now, Sam is the one that he keeps going back to and that fits his current lifestyle in the best way. There is more to a functional relationship than just passion and being in love. You have to have trust, you have to be able to rely on your significant other and know that they will have your back. Jason has that with Sam (and Carly of course..lol). Regardless of what he may have felt or feel now for Liz, she doesn't fit into the life he has chosen to live in the way that Sam does. And regardless of his unconditional love for Carly he knows that her love is not safe for him. He knows that Carly would wreck him and that Sonny and Carly will always end up back together. I believe that Jason and Sam's love is based alot on trust and the fact that he knows he can trust her with his heart and she can handle his life.

We love differently at different times in our life. There are soo many ways to love. He loves Liz as she is the mother of his child.
IMO when 2 people can find themselves with each other again after being apart, that speaks volumes.

I better stop before my house gets EGGED for being a "Sam fan" when in reality I am not. Wink

Oh, sorry about that, JAQ. I was unaware that it wasn't your quote and mistook it as being one. My apologies.

Another thing, regardless of anything, I don't like the idea of Jake dying, just so it is easier for Jasam to have a baby. This is JMO.

Beans to clarify - because I guess I didnt say it the way I meant it. Yes, every character is capable of doing wrong when pushed to the breaking point, but like Jessica, Liz's "breaking point" is a much much lower threshold than the other female characters on the show. And here I can answer your sam point as well...I thought the 07 stuff was OOC but I totally agree thats part of the characters history now, but because it was OOC and because we saw her emotions swinging so radically from one thing to another, I consider that a breakdown, because I dont think there is any other way to explain it. Why did she break...well first she lost Lila at nearly full term, then she lost the brother for who's care she has been solely responsible for years and was willing to face a murder wrap for, she suffered a near fatal gunshot wound that robbed her of her ability to get pregnant with any ease, she lost Hope, the baby she thought she was all set to adopt, she found a mother she thought she hated and was then rejected by that mother (leading her to degrade herself with ric), she then found out her mother could die, she was held capitive in the MC and had to risk her life to save the others (and remember her trying to calm Liz during that, worrying about how she was dealing), and then it looked to her like she was losing jason to the child she couldnt give him and the mother of that child, who she had been saying was an issue for months only to be told that there was nothing there. It was only after ALL of that tragedy that she broke. Meanwhile Liz broke over the guy she didnt even really want breaking up with her and finding that for the first time in her life, something bad was happening to her and everyone wasnt rushing to her side to protect her. Liz is seen as fragile by the other characters on the canvas and much like Jessica most of the other characters in her immediate orb rush to protect her in the wake of ANY sort of tragedy. Sam, like blair, gets sympathy and love but her loved ones usually are the ones on the receiving end of the caregiving.

Also to be clear, I never said jason didnt love Liz. I know some sam feel that way, but I agree that one person can love more than one person in their lifetime. I just think that love is more as a person and less as a romantic thing, because he really doesnt know her in that romantic way very well. He knows they get along as friends, that her presence is comforting to him when things are really bad but Sam is his partner, he seeks her input and often heeds her advice. She gets him to do things outside his comfort zone whether its something as small as peanut brittle and dancing or something as major as going to see Edward on Christmas. The are capable of communication without speaking, the shorthand couples develop when they have been in sync forever. He knows all the strange stuff she does and the annoying habits that she might demonstate day to day, and loves her in spite of it and she knows him the same way. He doesnt know Liz in that capacity, which is why I think its more a fantasy love - a love of what she represents, the road not taken, what he imagines her to be like, what he imagines they would be like together - and of course all of that emotion is also tied up in and to a certain extent fueled by the love he has for Jake and his desire to have a child. Usually what you imagine something to be like is not at all what its like in actuality and if Jake had not been born how much of that imaginary life would never have even been dreamt up. As a huge Jarly fan, I totally agree with your assessment about their relationship, and Jason said as much to Spin when they were chasing Ian devlin - he compared Maxie to Carly and basically said some people just cant be and I knew Carly would always wreck me. In fact sometimes I think thats why he does so much for her, because he cant give her the one thing she really wants in her heart of hearts - a romantic relationship with him - so he gives her as close to it he can safely manage and he gave her sonny to fill the void.

Saher I get that you are saying that its just your opinion that if they kill of Jake its solely to facilitate Jason and sam having a child, but I have to ask what tangible basis do you have for believing that? I am just curious what makes you believe that because first off we dont know for sure Jake is dying, we dont know for sure Sam is getting pregnant and if she does whether or not she can carry full term, if Jake is dying, we dont know how it will be written and how any of the POV will be presented and it assumes that you have some insight in to how frons and guza make their decisions when I havent seen anything on line where someone in the know says this was done SOLELY to make a JaSam baby more pallitable - in fact regans last column's only mention of sam was "Is Sam sick?" Assuming that they have Jakes death set in stone, maybe this is being done to give Rebecca and Steve emmy reels. Maybe Kelly asked Frons to kill off jake and gave him two tickets to next years DWTS in order to seal the deal. Maybe Steve wanted Jake dead and paid off Frons with a case of Monavie. Maybe this is being done to make Liz sympathetic again. Maybe this is being done because Jason will feel like he has to confort her and it will lead to a Liason reunion? I think those ideas are pretty absurd, because I have no idea exactly why they made this choice, again assuming they have. I know this is a radical idea here, but maybe, just maybe they want to go there because they think it will be good story. I am just wondering if you know someone who works for gh or you have some story out there that I havent seen that supports your speculation?

I saw today that there was a lot of reaction to the press release and a lot of extra stuff seemed to have been read into it. Thats why I ask.

All I want to say is congratulations to Becky for being rehired to a job that she obviously loves. Why do I get a feeling that Becky is going to be the #1 most popular actor during DC's February list?....lol

Of course she will, its based on the number of clicks each actor gets or doesnt get. The fact that I just posted this gives her a click but its hardly an indication that she is popular with me LOL.

EET...We ALL know you love Liz.

JAQ... It's the number of times that you select Becky's name while on the DC post (I think)...lol. So, now, by default you are a Liz lover too!

I love her as much as you hate her LOL. Just trying to balance things out Tongue

Jaq at the end of the month dc posts the "20 most popular" which really is just the 20 most clicked on. So when someone gets fired or hired or otherwise inspires stories, it leads to more clicks pro and con, which lands them on the "most popular" LOL

Thanks EET. But wouldn't that depend on how often the character was being written in posts??

I can't (I am sorry) believe Liz has hit the "most popular" very often on here. If ever. Wink

Not sure I understand but its about how many times any viewer lands on a page about someone. If I want to post a million times I hate actress x on a thread about actress x, she would still hit the "most popular" list.

EET- RE: Your post # 186.... WOW! Great post EET and I totally agree with many of your points, very well put.

...I thought the 07 stuff was OOC but I totally agree thats part of the characters history now, but because it was OOC and because we saw her emotions swinging so radically from one thing to another, I consider that a breakdown, because I dont think there is any other way to explain it.
___________________________________________________________________________
I completely agree that Sam had a breakdown and was not thinking right when she let Jake get kidnapped. I had misunderstood your previous posts and thought that you were saying that you didn't consider '07 actions when looking at Sam's character b/c the writing was bad.

Liz is seen as fragile by the other characters on the canvas and much like Jessica most of the other characters in her immediate orb rush to protect her in the wake of ANY sort of tragedy.
___________________________________________________________________________
I can see that too. Whereas Sam is part of helping others in danger/with problems and can support Jason in that role, Liz is more like a Greenlee who always needs protected. I agree and I believe that is a big part of why Jason and Sam mesh so well together.

He knows they get along as friends, that her presence is comforting to him when things are really bad but Sam is his partner, he seeks her input and often heeds her advice. She gets him to do things outside his comfort zone whether its something as small as peanut brittle and dancing or something as major as going to see Edward on Christmas.
___________________________________________________________________________
I completely agree.

He doesnt know Liz in that capacity, which is why I think its more a fantasy love - a love of what she represents, the road not taken, what he imagines her to be like, what he imagines they would be like together - and of course all of that emotion is also tied up in and to a certain extent fueled by the love he has for Jake and his desire to have a
child.
__________________________________________________________________________
I think that this is very well put, and it really describes his relationship with Liz well, that it is about "the road not taken". IMO the love was/is there for Liz, but it was a love he knew he couldn't act on or wouldn't work because of his lifestyle so his view towards Liz now is based on what could have been. And with "what could have beens" you haven't had the chance to know if the love would work out, and it hasn't failed because it never got started so you are always gonna have that fondness and love for that person. This is exactly why I think a part of Jason still loves Liz, because it was a love that wasn't allowed to be explored.

As a huge Jarly fan, I totally agree with your assessment about their relationship, and Jason said as much to Spin when they were chasing Ian devlin - he compared Maxie to Carly and basically said some people just cant be and I knew Carly would always wreck me. ___________________________________________________________________________
I completely agree. In MY soap world, Jason will ALWAYS love Carly. And that LOVE is SO strong that he wouldn't/couldn't be with her not only to protect his own heart but hers as well. He knew she would eventually wreck him which would ruin their friendship and then she (who needs him so entirely) would be left without him even as a friend and he knew she could never handle that.

EET - I don't need anymore insight into Frons than his statement of how he could train his audience like dogs. But this is JMO.

I still stand by my comment that if Jake is killed off for Jasam to have a baby, which even suite101 reports as a possible spoiler, then they have gone a new low, JMO.

Saher I am not questioning whether some people or even many people feel that killing off Jake is low or a mistake. Thats a pov and POVs cant be right or wrong as opinions are subjective. What I am questioning is your assertion that you KNOW that Frons is doing this solely to facilitate a pregnancy that we dont even know will happen and if it does, that the baby will be carried to term. If they havent decided whether a JaSam baby will be born, how can that be the motivation for killing jake, assuming they do in fact kill Jake (which I think will happen, but we dont know that yet) I gave you a bunch of other reasons all of which are just as likely as the one you threw out, thus it makes it your claim only a GUESS, not a fact. So you can say based on frons being an ass so many times before, I am guessing this was done to make the audience root for a jaSam baby or you can say I THINK its likely that .....or it seems to me its being done to....., but you cant say you KNOW it as if its a fact unless BF said it somewhere. it seems to me that its unlikely that something that has yet to be decided could be a factor in anything thats happening on screen NOW. That would be like saying Guza wrote Niz having an affair to give JJ an emmy reel, since Niz started BEFORE tptb knew JJ was coming back. Kknowledge of his return could not have influenced what they decided to do 6 months BEFORE they had that knowledge unless they had a time machine.

EET - I respect your opinion. But for the Jasam storyline, just a few days ago, they had Monica saying how much Aiden looks like Lucky, and not once they had her say that about Jake, even though she had seen him multiple times. That shows to me that there is an agenda playing at hand for this storyline, and I don't need to be in Frons's mind to know that.

Overall, if we still do not agree, then politely agreeing to disagree.

*********************************************************
You are correct. There is an agenda for what happened. 2 things actually. I got to see Monica! Big smile And she put the thought of Aiden looking like Lucky at that age.
Seriously do you think the writers, who forgot to serve food at the wedding, thought any further than connecting and opening up the storyline of LIz's baby??
You are reading to much into it. That is only my opinion. lol
